Chapter 152: Chapter 142: Top Medical Colleges Invite Wu Ting for Exam-Exempt Graduate Admission

Once the expert consensus was officially established, the next steps were the formal announcement and the training and assessment for the first batch of doctors approved for daytime surgery.

Without a doubt, the research center had emerged as the biggest winner this time. It would be welcoming teams from top hospitals across the country for advanced training.

This was crucial for the research center’s reputation and influence. Possessing the authority to train, authorize, and audit allowed the Fan City First Hospital Research Center to become a legitimate, national-level research center, truly serving the entire country.

After the perfect debut of the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy before the nation’s hepatobiliary surgery experts, the afternoon observation tour delivered yet another shock.

As deliberately arranged by Professor Shen Guofeng, a video of the surgery performed on Ms. Song Ying at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital was played in the research center’s conference room.

Professor Shen had great respect for the achievements of Wu Ting’s team.

Other than the surgical team present that day, the outside world knew none of the specifics about Ms. Song Ying’s surgery, and this brand new surgical technique had not been publicly announced.

Professor Shen had his own reasons for this. He had been the chief surgeon that day, and on the surface, the primary team involved was from Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

However, it was Wu Ting’s team that had played the pivotal role.

Therefore, that landmark surgery should not be announced under the name of Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

And now, here at the Fan City First Hospital Research Center, was the true first time this surgical video was being revealed to the entire industry.

Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong had been present for the entire operation and knew that Wu Ting’s team had been the decisive factor, so they were even more supportive of showcasing the surgery at the research center.

The experts and directors in attendance thus witnessed Wu Ting’s team perform the Perfect Triple Method-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of a liver tumor complicated by severe cirrhosis.

Watching the application of this groundbreaking three-dimensional imaging navigation platform, the experts present were all in awe.

”My God, that’s incredible. There’s nothing even close to this kind of technology, even abroad!”

”I thought the expert consensus on the Daytime Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy was already a huge surprise. I never expected this to be the real main event.”

”Professor Ma, Professor Shen, Professor Jin, this joint research center of yours is truly at the forefront of assistive surgical technology in our field of hepatobiliary surgery.”

”Yes, this must be a software application your research center developed independently, right? It’s incredible.”

...

...

These experts had incredibly sharp eyes. They could see that although this was only an assistive technology, in the hands of a skilled chief surgeon, it was like adding wings to a tiger, making it possible to treat complex cases previously deemed impossible.

”This is a true blessing for liver tumor patients all across the country.”

”Professor Ma, Professor Shen, Professor Jin, you must have invested a great deal of manpower and resources into this Triple Method assistive technology, right? Did you also collaborate with top computer science experts from the nation’s best universities to achieve something of this caliber?”

Many of the professors were overcome with emotion, finding it all quite unbelievable.

”Everyone,” Professor Shen began, ”the true core team behind this technology is actually just these four young people.”

Professor Shen gestured toward Wu Ting, Yan Xi, Ling Ling, and Jin Yan.

”No, no, no, we just added the finishing touches,” they said. ”In fact, the core programming algorithms, the overall concept, and the final integration were all completed by our Dr. Wu Ting.”

The three PhDs pushed Wu Ting forward.

Some of the experts and professors present recognized Yan Xi and the other two PhDs. After all, they hailed from three top-tier institutions and were the protégés of famous mentors, so they had made some impressions and had some contact within the circle.

But Wu Ting had truly appeared out of nowhere. If not for the recent Special Issue of the Jin Country Surgery Journal and this expert consensus, no one would have ever heard of him.

”Dr. Yan, Dr. Ling, and Dr. Jin are all elite young physicians being specially groomed for success in our field of hepatobiliary surgery. But this is the first time we’ve met a Dr. Wu.”

”I wonder, who is Dr. Wu’s mentor?”

The professors present grew curious. If anyone in their circle had a student like this, they’d be bursting with pride and bragging to high heaven.

All the experts looked toward Shen Guofeng, Jin Yu, and Ma Mengchao, figuring he was most likely a new student of one of the three.

Hearing everyone call him ”Dr. Wu,” Wu Ting blushed slightly.

”You’ve all misunderstood, I’m not a PhD,” he clarified. ”I only have a bachelor’s degree.”

Hearing Wu Ting’s words, the professors were in disbelief.

”A bachelor’s degree?”

”No wonder we’ve never seen you at academic events. We couldn’t place your academic lineage.”

After the initial shock wore off, their interest was suddenly piqued.

”Speaking of which, this year’s graduate school enrollment is starting soon. Dr. Wu, in our medical field, a good educational background is still very important.”

”What do you think? Are you interested in coming to Jin Country Medical University as a graduate student, with an admissions exam waiver? Although I no longer take on master’s students myself, I can select the best possible advisor for you.”

Fu Dazhi, wasting no time, made the first move to poach him.

Hearing Fu Dazhi’s offer, Liu Rong, not to be outdone, jumped in.

”Dr. Wu, the doors of our PLA General Hospital Graduate School are also open to you. If you’re willing, I’ll personally make the arrangements. I’m the dean of our graduate school. Just say the word, and I’ll make the call to set it up right now.”

Dean Liu Rong was incredibly impressed with Wu Ting. Furthermore, his own team happened to be researching 3D visualization technology. Recruiting Wu Ting would be a massive boost to the hospital’s research efforts.

”Gentlemen, that’s enough.”

”Wu Ting will certainly attend graduate school, but if he does, it will be here, on our research center’s own platform.”

Professor Ma Mengchao had long had a plan and couldn’t let these people spoil it.

”Wu Ting, we’ve been busy with the expert consensus and getting your paper published, so I haven’t mentioned this to you. But in fact, I’ve had this planned for a while and have already made the arrangements.”

”Once the expert consensus is formally announced, I’ll have Dr. Ling Ling assist you in securing the Youth Fund grant. After that, the research center will officially enter its second phase of development.”

”This is also the perfect time for you to advance your academic qualifications. I will personally arrange for one of my junior colleagues—a direct disciple of my own master, Scholar Zeng Jiu—to be your advisor.”

”I’m sure you understand the standing of our Union Medical College in Jin Country. As your senior from the same academic lineage, Dr. Ling Ling will also do her best to help you.”

Ma Mengchao made his proposal with complete confidence, even factoring Ling Ling into his plan.

The implication was clear: once things at the research center were wrapped up, he would bring Wu Ting to Union, have him complete his master’s degree under his junior colleague, and then Wu Ting could leave the Fan City First Hospital platform behind for good.

He would formally join the staff of Jiuhua Hospital and, simultaneously, become Ma Mengchao’s PhD student.

Hearing Professor Ma Mengchao’s invitation, the other professors present gave up on the idea of recruiting Wu Ting.

After all, Jiuhua Hospital was the number one hospital in the country, and Ma Mengchao was the grand-disciple of Scholar Zeng Jiu. What doctor could possibly refuse such an attractive offer?

”Wu Ting, welcome to the team,”

Dr. Ling Ling said, overjoyed. She had greatly enjoyed collaborating with Wu Ting. In fact, he was the most important reason she had stayed in Fan City.

But with her talent and abilities, it was impossible for Ling Ling to stay in Fan City forever; she was bound to return to Jiuhua Hospital. If Wu Ting could become her junior colleague and she could bring him back with her, it would be absolutely perfect.

Hearing that Wu Ting might be going to Jiuhua Hospital, Yan Xi felt a pang of disappointment. ’Still,’ she thought, ’if I were in his shoes, with a personal invitation from Ma Mengchao himself, who even designated a direct disciple of Scholar Zeng Jiu as his advisor... even I couldn’t refuse, could I?’

Jin Yan blinked as well, waiting for Wu Ting’s decision.

Shen Guofeng, however, remained calm. He had already said what needed to be said to Wu Ting over the phone. Though he held some sway in Xiao City, he couldn’t compete with Ma Mengchao, with his Jiuhua Hospital connections and Scholar Zeng Jiu’s lineage.

Huo Yun, Cheng Feng, and the others, though reluctant to see Wu Ting leave for Union, were ultimately happy for him.

Besides, with Wu Ting’s talent, he couldn’t possibly stay at Fan City First Hospital forever.

”Professor Ma, Dr. Ling, thank you for your invitation. It’s true, I don’t believe any doctor would refuse an invitation from Jiuhua Hospital.”

”I also hope that one day I can walk the halls of Jiuhua Hospital, performing surgery and conducting research alongside the nation’s top doctors.”

”But, I’m a Fan City native, after all. Just a few months ago, I was working tirelessly just for the chance to stay at Fan City First Hospital. It has always been a distant dream of mine. Now that dream has become a reality, and I’ve started to make some small achievements here.”

”But in retrospect, my accomplishments are merely superficial. I’m still just a newcomer in the field of medicine, with so much more to learn.”

”So, for the time being, I will be staying here at Fan City First Hospital and the research center.”

”I promised Director Huo that I would help our emergency department win designation as a provincial-level key specialty. Besides, I’ve signed a contract with Fan City First Hospital and accepted the various rewards from their talent acquisition program.”

’Of course,’ Wu Ting knew, ’Ma Mengchao could take care of any contract termination fees, but I still want to stay in my hometown and contribute to its hospital.’

’After all,’ he thought, ’I have my system. As long as I keep improving my skills and can complete medical scenarios with all sorts of experts and professors, I don’t have to join the staff at Union.’

’Going there for academic exchanges or advanced training will be just as good.’

’Besides, I don’t need to rely on the backing of some ’Scholar’ or on Ma Mengchao’s patronage and his meticulously calculated plans.’

’It’s best to have that support, but if I don’t, I won’t be afraid.’

’I can rely on myself to forge my own unique path, one step at a time.’

”Professor Shen, I would still like to attend graduate school at Jinggang University Medical College. As a part-time student. That way, I can split my time between Fan City First Hospital and the Medical College, and continue with my regular work.”

Hearing Wu Ting’s words, Shen Guofeng, Ma Mengchao, Huo Yun, Yan Xi, Ling Ling, Jin Yan, and the others were all very surprised, but also deeply impressed.

His ability to stay true to his principles and remain in his hometown was truly admirable.

”Good. Good. What a good kid.”

Shen Guofeng felt he was seeing Wu Ting in a new light, and his admiration for him was immense.

Huo Yun was ecstatic. Wu Ting was a truly responsible doctor. From now on, he would give his full support for Wu Ting to attend academic exchanges and advanced training, providing him with the best opportunities for development.

Of course, if the day came when Wu Ting wanted to leave, he would also provide the greatest possible support.

Although Professor Ma Mengchao was somewhat displeased, he respected Wu Ting’s choice. He also had to admire the man himself.

’True geniuses really do have a mind of their own!’

Ma Mengchao dropped the subject of Wu Ting’s graduate studies. Instead, he began discussing the application for Wu Ting’s team’s Youth Fund grant with the other experts present.

Many of the experts in attendance were candidates for the National Natural Science Foundation’s review committee, and Professor Ma’s statement made his intentions perfectly clear to them.

They all highly approved of both Wu Ting as a person and his research accomplishments.
