Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 168: Chapter 154: A Small Test of the 6 ERCP Tasks, Shattering the Record! (2)

The video recording system was also designed to synchronously record the trainees’ procedures. This allowed the trainees to review the footage later, identify their own mistakes, and make repeated comparisons to achieve the best practice results.

Everyone left the teaching room.

After the major surgery was completed, Qin Donglai, Song Qi, and the others all went to rest.

Wang Nanjin, on the other hand, went back to revise his speech for the new graduate student orientation ceremony.

As the chief resident of the research center ward, Wu Ting was at the hospital twenty-four hours a day. He took a short rest in the second-line on-call room, then made his rounds through the wards. After confirming everything was normal, he passed by the training room on his way back.

He saw the lights were on inside and was about to go in to turn them off when he noticed the ERCP training simulator.

Having already maxed-out his skill points in ERCP, Wu Ting’s interest was piqued. He wanted to evaluate the simulator’s level of realism and how much value it actually had for ERCP technical training.

Since no one else was around to disturb him, Wu Ting closed the door to the teaching room and began testing it.

The first task was to determine the correct endoscope position and obtain the proper axis for cannulation.

Wu Ting picked up the endoscope and was rather surprised. He hadn’t expected the device to be identical to the real thing, and the endoscope’s surgical field of view was also remarkably close to reality.

’This is pretty interesting.’ Since it was just a test—and a simulator, not a real patient—Wu Ting felt completely unrestrained and grew even more uninhibited.

He deftly controlled the endoscope’s lens with both hands, navigating the anatomy of the duodenal papilla opening with practiced ease.

Wu Ting just hovered for a moment, went in and out once, and with a slight twist using his thumb, index, and middle fingers, he perfectly maneuvered it into the optimal position.

First task complete. Time: 5s!

Wu Ting didn’t notice that on the simulator’s system leaderboard, his time for this task had shot to the top.

”Interesting.”

Wu Ting hadn’t expected the training simulator to be so realistic. He realized that if a trainee could complete this program, they could indeed start attempting live clinical practice.

The second task was cannulation of the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct.

In a real surgery, this step is for inserting specialized instruments into the bile or pancreatic duct and then injecting a contrast agent for imaging under X-ray fluoroscopy.

Therefore, this step was more difficult and complex than the first.

Wu Ting’s interest grew. He precisely manipulated the daughter-scope and ultrasound probe to perform the cannulation.

After all, he possessed the practical experience and skill of a top-tier professor. On the simulator, Wu Ting performed at 180% of his usual level, completing in a single pass what an average doctor would need seven or eight attempts to achieve.

The leaderboard for the second task updated immediately—Wu Ting’s time was number one again!

Next was placing plastic stents in the bile and pancreatic ducts. This tested the operator’s micro-maneuvering skills and their familiarity with the structure of the ducts.

The procedure had to be done quickly yet delicately. One had to make it look effortless to avoid damaging the bile and pancreatic ducts as much as possible, which was one of the major difficulties of this surgery.

Many beginners, while successfully placing the plastic stent, would cause irreversible damage to the bile and pancreatic ducts. In a clinical setting, that would constitute medical malpractice.

This step was also extremely difficult.

However, Wu Ting’s performance was terrifyingly good. His movements were fast and steady, and he didn’t touch the bile or pancreatic ducts at all.

He perfectly placed the plastic stent. Based on the combined score for time and damage level, he was number one again!

By this point, Wu Ting had basically figured out the limits of the training simulator. Overall, it was much simpler and easier than a real procedure.

At Wu Ting’s current level, it was completely stress-free. He was starting to lose interest in the remaining tasks, but since he’d started testing it, he figured he should see it through to the end.

After completing all six tasks, Wu Ting formed his evaluation of the training simulator.

Clearly, this simulator couldn’t replace actual clinical training, and it was useless for experienced professionals. However, it was most useful for novice doctors.

This was because beginners have limited time and opportunities for hands-on ERCP clinical training. Just by observing or watching video recordings, it’s difficult to understand the coordination between the ERCP endoscope, its accessories, and the physician. Relying solely on clinical training would require a very long learning curve, which is why only major hospitals have mature ERCP programs.

This training simulator, however, could realistically display the anatomical relationship between the duodenum and the pancreatobiliary system, nearly replicating a real environment. It could significantly shorten the training period for beginners, allowing them to quickly understand the endoscope and its accessories, as well as familiarize themselves with the anatomy of the pancreatobiliary system.

Moreover, on the training simulator, they could practice extensively at any time without the pressure of a clinical setting, which is extremely useful for beginners.

”It seems Dr. Wang’s team really has something here.”

Wu Ting now felt at ease letting the doctors from his department spend time training with them.

As for Wu Ting himself, he didn’t plan on participating in any more of these courses. For an experienced technician like him, this kind of training simulator was no longer helpful.

After Wu Ting left, the training simulator automatically updated with the latest record: nine minutes!

A full four minutes faster than Dr. Wang’s best time.

「The training camp resumed on the second day.」

Wu Ting did not attend; he spent his time in the operating room instead.

Wang Nanjin made a brief appearance. Seeing that Wu Ting wasn’t there, he thought to himself, ’This is probably intentional on his part.’ He decided he wouldn’t show up for the next few days either.

’After all, my relationship with Wu Ting is delicate right now. He might not be an expert at ERCP, but I won’t look down on him for it. Given his abilities, he could master it quickly if he just applied himself. There’s no need for me to act superior about this, and I don’t want to cause any unnecessary misunderstandings between us over ERCP. We’re equals, not in some mentor-and-beginner relationship from a training camp.’

The doctors from City First Hospital didn’t think anything of Dr. Wang appearing for a moment and then leaving.

After all, given their current skill level in ERCP, the instructors from the teaching team were more than enough for them.

Besides, they were still just practicing... It would take who knows how long for them to catch up to Dr. Wang.

It wouldn’t be too late to ask for Dr. Wang’s guidance and move on to live clinical practice once they finally completed the six tasks.

Just as everyone was preparing to start the new day’s practice, Cheng Feng cried out in surprise:

”Hey, look! The record for the six tasks has been broken again!”

The instructors from the teaching team also looked over, and they were all stunned.

”Nine minutes! That’s a full four minutes faster than the previous record!”
