Chapter 84: Chapter 84: A Stunning Debut, Wu Ting Makes His Name

As the topic shifted to laparoscopic appendectomy, Yao Shi finally collected himself. He had, after all, prepared a great deal of case material for this summit.

Yao Shi and his team had spent years on laparoscopic appendectomy. After gathering his thoughts, Yao Shi took out his presentation notes.

Huo Yun and Wu Ting sat down as well, and the other directors all turned their attention to the screen.

Yao Shi slowly settled into his role, beginning to introduce his achievements in detail and sharing a few typical case studies.

Watching his presentation, it was clear that Yao Shi’s laparoscopic appendectomy technique was of a respectable standard.

Several doctors, particularly those in general and emergency surgery, began to comment, offering Yao Shi positive feedback and praise.

”Director Yao, your achievements in the field of laparoscopy are quite impressive. This small-incision technique is certainly a significant improvement over the conventional surgical technique.”

”Director Yao, you should visit our hospital sometime to exchange ideas.”

A few directors from county hospitals invited Yao Shi to come and demonstrate the surgery.

Indeed, Yao Shi had made some respectable advancements on the traditional laparoscopic appendectomy.

Seeing the audience’s reaction, Yao Shi began to feel a little better.

Li Baohua felt a measure of relief as well. Yao Shi’s surgical skills and team leadership were, without a doubt, excellent.

Seeing the mood in the room improve, Yao Shi’s confidence returned.

”Director Huo, Dr. Wu, this is our department’s latest research, the presentation I prepared for this summit.”

”Thank you all for your attention. I welcome any opinions and suggestions.”

Yao Shi looked at Wu Ting and asked calmly,

”Dr. Wu, what are your thoughts and suggestions regarding my team’s laparoscopic appendectomy? I am all ears.”

Wu Ting stood up, his demeanor perfectly composed.

”As a matter of fact, I do have some insights on the subject of laparoscopic appendectomy.”

”Appendicitis is a common digestive disease in general and emergency surgery. It has a high incidence rate, and its treatment methods are well-established.”

”Traditional open appendectomy was the common surgical treatment, but with the continuous development of laparoscopic technology, laparoscopic appendectomy has now become the preferred clinical approach.”

”Director Yao’s team’s technique is a clear improvement over conventional laparoscopic appendectomy. The smaller incision reduces surgical trauma to the patient, and it shows consideration for cosmetic results. That’s certainly commendable.”

”However, I believe we can take it even further.”

Hearing Wu Ting’s words, Yao Shi and the other directors in attendance were rather surprised.

”Dr. Wu, that’s a bold claim. It seems you’re not impressed with Director Yao’s small-incision modification?”

Wu Ting gave a calm, unhurried wave of his hand. Cheng Feng, understanding implicitly, removed Yao Shi’s flash drive and plugged in one from their own team.

Instead of responding directly, Wu Ting began playing case studies of the recently developed Wu’s Umbilical Appendectomy from City First Hospital.

As the video played, he began his explanation:

”This is our department’s newly developed Wu’s Umbilical Appendectomy.”

”Since its first successful implementation, our hospital has performed a total of 60 cases. Of these patients, 46 had excellent outcomes and 13 had good outcomes. One case was converted to a traditional open procedure due to other intraoperative complications. The total efficacy rate is 98.3%...”

”The procedure time for patients ranged from 30 minutes to two hours, with a median of 50 minutes. No incisions were visible on the abdomen, offering truly exceptional cosmetic results...”

As Wu Ting presented the statistics, the directors in the audience saw actual patient photos for the first time.

In medicine, results are objective. The patients themselves tell the story.

”Is that really from after an appendectomy?”

”This is incredible. It’s completely scarless. You can’t see any trace of the surgery at all.”

”Perfectly scarless with an excellent cosmetic outcome. Incredible!”

”How did they do that?”

...

Even Li Baohua, the Director of General Surgery from City Second Hospital, looked shocked and impressed. The clinical significance of this surgical technique was immense.

Li Baohua’s first thought was, ’We have to adopt this technique!’

Yao Shi stared at the photos on the screen. His first reaction was disbelief. His second was the crushing realization that he had just served as a stepping stone.

”An appendectomy through the umbilicus... how is that possible? Could the creator of this surgical technique please come up and speak about it?”

”I wonder where City First Hospital recruited this expert from?”

Yao Shi couldn’t accept it.

In response to Yao Shi’s questions, Wu Ting replied calmly,

”I am the one who created this surgical technique. It’s named after me: Wu’s Umbilical Hole Laparoscopic Appendectomy!”

”Named after you? *You’re* the ’Wu’ expert?”

Yao Shi would never have dreamed that this young doctor was the one who had conceived it.

Ignoring the crumbling Yao Shi, Wu Ting began to elaborate on the significance of the technique to the assembled directors and experts, addressing the questions they had.

”Conventional laparoscopic appendectomy typically involves three to four incisions in the patient’s lower right abdomen. Director Yao’s team has not broken from this paradigm. Even by reducing the incision size, it still causes considerable trauma and fails to provide a superior cosmetic result.”

”Our team’s technique, however, is a revolutionary optimization built on the three-port method. We reduced three ports to a single one, and from that, the single-port umbilical laparoscopic appendectomy was born!”

”This approach significantly reduces surgical trauma and postoperative pain. It is also highly concealable. By using cosmetic, intradermal sutures, there is no scarring. The incision is nearly invisible, even in a close-up.”

”The theoretical basis for this surgical technique rests on four key points...”

”Of course, there are situations that require conversion to an open procedure, such as cases of severe gangrene, perforation, or in specific patients with a small appendiceal mesentery... Nevertheless, it still holds immense clinical significance and value for widespread adoption.”

Wu Ting spoke with confidence and eloquence.

Several experts and directors in the audience raised questions, and Wu Ting answered each one flawlessly.

”Impressive. Truly impressive.”

”It’s true what they say: a new generation of talent always emerges.”

”Compared to Wu Ting’s surgical technique, Director Yao’s team’s results are indeed far inferior.”

”Dr. Wu, I have a favor to ask, though it may be presumptuous. Would it be possible to arrange for doctors from my hospital to come to City First Hospital to train in the Wu’s Umbilical Hole Laparoscopic Appendectomy?”

”Exactly, Dr. Wu. This technique is a truly revolutionary change for appendectomies. Moving from three ports to a single port puts it a whole generation ahead of its time.”

”Dr. Wu, to be this accomplished at your age... you’re truly a natural talent.”

Director Zhang Zhong of the Military Hospital was also making plans. ’I need to arrange for my department’s doctors to go to City First Hospital to learn this technique.’

Shen Guofeng’s eyes gleamed with admiration. ’This Wu Ting doesn’t need me to build him up at all. He’s a light source unto himself, a natural-born star.’

Thanks to Wu Ting bursting onto the scene, today’s summit had reached its climax!

He cut a dashing figure, a brilliant and handsome young scholar poised to take on the world.
