Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The List Is Out: Research Group Formation

”All you directors can begin the preliminary selection process and decide on the topic proposals for the chosen physicians. The hospital will be allocating extra resources and funding for this. The first season of Path to Health will have a total of 24 episodes, two per week, with each week focusing on a specific medical topic.”

”To support the promotion of Path to Health, the hospital will also coordinate with the relevant departments and physicians to conduct free clinics and expand our online and offline platforms. Therefore, this is the perfect opportunity for any good research project to stand out.”

”At the same time, the involved physicians will be given priority for funding, research, and future awards and promotions. These selected doctors will also be specially mentored and receive priority for advanced training opportunities abroad.”

Hearing Dean Tang’s explanation, the directors were all inwardly shocked. The level of importance the hospital was placing on this was obvious. The physicians chosen this time would clearly be the future leaders of City First Hospital.

After Dean Tang finished speaking, he gave the departments some time to confer.

Soon, each department had a preliminary plan. Those with promising young elite physicians who could hold their own naturally put them forward first. If a department lacked such potential, the department director would take the lead themselves.

”For the Orthopedics Department, our provisional guest speaker is Deputy Director Jing Feng. His topic is ’Hip Replacement,’ focusing on the elderly through total hip arthroplasty.”

”For the National Medical Department, our provisional guest speaker is Deputy Director Huang Hong. Her topic is ’Pediatric Tui Na.’ It is theoretically guided by the principles of yin and yang, the five elements, and the zang-fu and meridian doctrines. It uses various techniques to stimulate acupoints, clearing the meridians and promoting the flow of qi and blood to treat illness and maintain health...”

”For the Dermatology Department...”

Clearly, the topics proposed by each department were all highly suitable for promotion and public education.

”For the Burn Department, our provisional guest speaker is Deputy Director Lu Yu, and the topic is ’Ocular and Nasal Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery’...”

Listening to the list of nominees, the various department directors all nodded in approval. They were essentially the backbone of City First Hospital—physicians with boundless potential. Without exception, all of them had impressive achievements in either research or clinical practice, came from prestigious universities, and were key talents being groomed by their departments.

Soon, it was the Emergency Department’s turn. After careful consideration, Huo Yun presented his nomination:

”For the Emergency Department, our provisional guest speaker is Deputy Director Jiang Ming. His topic is ’Laparoscopic Appendectomy.’ It focuses on improvements and optimizations to the most common appendectomy procedure within the field of minimally invasive surgery.”

The other directors had no objections to Deputy Director Jiang Ming representing the Emergency Department. In fact, they were quite looking forward to his research topic.

However, Director Lin Hu of the General Surgery Department had some reservations about Jiang Ming’s topic. After all, laparoscopic technology and appendectomy-related surgical techniques were in direct competition with his department.

Another chief physician from General Surgery, Zheng Duqing—Director Zheng—had also been researching a similar field. However, since this was a topic Jiang Ming was planning to study, Director Zheng had to consider the Jiang Family’s reputation and gave up his focus on minimally invasive appendectomies, switching instead to research on other laparoscopic procedures.

”For the General Surgery Department, our provisional guest speaker is Director Zheng Duqing. His topic is ’Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy,’ focusing on the most common surgery for cholecystitis...”

Seeing Director Zheng from General Surgery and his proposed topic, the directors in attendance exchanged meaningful glances with Huo Yun and Lin Hu.

...

Soon, every department had submitted a preliminary list. The proposed topics for each guest speaker were discussed and evaluated, and for the most part, all were deemed feasible.

Finally, Dean Tang announced:

”Next, all departments should begin preparing their respective projects, developing classic surgical techniques, and assembling their teams. We must be prepared in terms of the surgical technique itself, the medical staff, and long-term future development. The hospital will then form a review panel to assess this preliminary list and select the final list of guest speakers.”

”The selected physicians, in addition to preparing for the show’s taping, will be fully engaged in free clinics, online and offline promotional coordination, and the subsequent admission and treatment of patients.”

”Furthermore, this group of physicians and their projects will receive over 500,000 yuan in financial support, as well as corresponding equipment and a number of slots for advanced training. Of course, each team will also be required to publish one paper in a national-level journal within a year!”

Hearing Dean Tang’s far-reaching plan, the directors understood the gravity of the situation. This was much more than just a simple TV appearance.

After the hospital’s regular meeting concluded, news of the matter spread to all the doctors at City First Hospital.

In the Emergency Department, the physicians were filled with a mix of emotions.

Some were happy, while others were worried.

This batch of residents, especially those in the surgical group, were somewhat dejected. Now that Wu Ting’s permanent position was set in stone, they would have to find their own paths after completing their residency.

Cheng Feng was also on the verge of a breakdown, but after some thought, he chose to accept it.

”Wu Ting, congratulations.”

Cheng Feng looked at Wu Ting, his feelings complicated. He had been determined to get this hospital position, but compared to Wu Ting, he had to admit defeat.

Besides, he genuinely respected Wu Ting’s medical skills and character.

”Cheng Feng, you don’t have to be so down. Let’s both focus on finishing our current projects first. Your paper will be published soon, too. With your overall capabilities, you’ll still have plenty of opportunities. I’m sure Director Huo will make proper arrangements for you.”

Wu Ting genuinely admired Cheng Feng and offered a few words of comfort.

”Yeah, I know. Director Huo already spoke with me. He gave me two options. One is to wait a year and try for a position here again next year. The second is that he’ll recommend me to one of the other Class A Tertiary hospitals in Fan City. I just haven’t decided yet.”

Cheng Feng decided to take Wu Ting’s advice and focus on completing his paper first. It would be an important bargaining chip for his future.

Just as Cheng Feng and Wu Ting were encouraging each other, Deputy Director Jiang Ming arrived in the Emergency Department.

Seeing Director Jiang, many of the doctors and nurses, who had already heard the news from the hospital meeting, spoke up.

”Congratulations, Director Jiang, on being nominated for Path to Health!”

”Director Jiang, we’re looking forward to seeing you on TV!”

”Congratulations, Director Jiang!”

Everyone understood what this nomination signified, beyond just the TV appearance itself.

Qin Donglai also congratulated Jiang Ming, feeling a pang of envy. ’An opportunity like this is impossible for me in this lifetime,’ he thought.

’Perhaps in this entire department, only Wu Ting will have such an opportunity in the future.’

Jiang Ming was grateful for everyone’s well-wishes, but inwardly, he felt an immense amount of pressure.

In order to pass the hospital’s evaluation, he now needed to start performing a large number of laparoscopic appendectomies and also prepare to form an official research group team.

”Director Jiang, congratulations.”

When Jiang Ming walked over, Cheng Feng and Wu Ting also offered their congratulations.

Seeing Wu Ting, Jiang Ming’s eyes lit up as an idea came to mind.

”Wu Ting, come with me for a moment.”
