Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Huo Yun Attacks Yao Shi at the Forum

Nerves and his less-than-perfect Mandarin made Yao Shi stumble over his words several times, even while reading from the teleprompter. Fortunately, his part wasn’t very long.

Once the production team decided they had enough footage to use as a contrast to Wu Ting, they wrapped up Yao Shi’s recording session.

Dong Yiren stood, gestured her thanks, and then departed.

A member of the production team stepped forward to speak with Yao Shi.

”Thank you for coming, Director Yao. All that’s left is for your team to provide the follow-up medical case videos and photos. Our post-production team will take care of the editing.”

Hearing the production team’s instructions, Yao Shi could only express his thanks and agree to cooperate.

He had felt like a puppet on a string throughout the entire recording. It wasn’t until it was over that Yao Shi snapped out of it, realizing he hadn’t managed to say many of the things he wanted to showcase and promote his team.

’Sigh, it was my first time on camera, after all. I suppose it was passable.’

With the production team’s permission, Yao Shi took a few photos and recorded some short videos in the broadcast studio.

He planned to use them as promotional material for his Kuaiyin account later.

After leaving the television station, Yao Shi made sure to post a few photos from the shoot to his social media feed.

”First time recording a TV show. I was a little nervous, but I’m looking forward to seeing the final cut.”

As soon as he posted the photos, the junior doctors from his department scrambled to like, comment on, and praise them.

When Yao Shi got home, even his wife was unusually attentive and enthusiastic.

But as he looked at his still-alluring wife, who had clearly just washed her hair and showered, on what should have been a happy occasion, the first thing that came to Yao Shi’s mind was... dinner.

Yao Shi was aghast. ’I’m really not young anymore.’

The meal concluded.

Under his wife’s reproachful gaze, a guilt-ridden Yao Shi retreated to his study and started editing his Kuaiyin video.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of the Fan City Medical Association’s Emergency Medicine Branch, City First Hospital’s Emergency and General Surgery Departments, and the Military Hospital, the Fan City Medical Summit was held successfully!

This medical summit was divided into several sections, including ”Emergency Surgery,” ”National Medicine,” ”Critical Care,” and ”Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment.”

Top experts from every hospital in the city, along with the renowned provincial scholar Professor Shen Guofeng, gathered for academic exchange. They were there to discuss and share new theories, technologies, and methods within their respective fields.

Leaders from the Fan City Health Bureau were also in attendance. The summit brought together not only renowned experts and department directors from various fields but also young and mid-career scholars from the front lines of clinical practice.

A leader from the Health Bureau delivered the opening address:

”...On behalf of the Health Bureau, I would like to thank this platform. This summit enhances the knowledge of Fan City’s physicians and improves our training systems. It also promotes broad cooperation among related industry organizations, provides clinical experience and new research perspectives for disease prevention and control, and contributes to the long-term progress of our city’s public health sector!...”

Listening to the Health Bureau leader’s speech, the experts in the audience were filled with enthusiasm and a sense of pride.

He looked at the pillars of the major hospitals seated in the front row—the Military Hospital, the National Hospital, City First Hospital, Bei City First People’s Hospital, Salt City Third Hospital... they were all influential figures.

Yao Shi was thrilled. Many of the people here were merely attendees, there to observe and listen.

But he was different. He was an invited speaker for the Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment section, where he would be discussing matters on equal footing with renowned directors and experts.

Yao Shi sat in his seat, silently running through his notes. He was preparing to share the results of his recent research and his most classic medical cases.

’First, I’ll make a name for myself in the industry at this summit. Then, I’ll get another boost of fame from the TV show. My influence will be on a whole new level.’

’After that, I’m sure I’ll finally have what it takes to stand up to Li Baohua in the General Surgery Department at City Second Hospital.’

’Brilliant.’ As the leader’s speech concluded, Yao Shi applauded enthusiastically.

Next, the invited Professor Shen Guofeng took the stage. Professor Shen expressed his high hopes for and praise of Fan City’s medical community.

After the usual pleasantries, Professor Shen mentioned that during the Emergency Surgery section, he would be sharing a project he was co-promoting with the team from City First Hospital.

He didn’t elaborate, however, mentioning it only briefly.

Once the opening remarks from the leaders and expert representatives were finished, the Fan City Medical Summit officially began.

The forum was split into several concurrent sessions. Doctors from different fields and departments attended their respective sections to listen to presentations and discussions by the invited speakers.

Director Huo Yun, who had spearheaded this forum, was personally chairing the Emergency Surgery section.

For this first presentation, Huo Yun had not only invited emergency medicine experts but had also gathered specialists from the National Medical Department, Critical Care, Burn and Plastic Surgery, and General Surgery.

Jiang Ming approached Yao Shi with a warm invitation.

”Director Yao, we’ve scheduled the Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment section for the prime, final slot of the day. For now, we’d be honored if you would join us in the Emergency Surgery section, which Director Huo is chairing.”

”This particular discussion will use the mass casualty rescue from the Yu State chemical plant fire as a case study. It was a joint effort involving the National Medical Department, Emergency Surgery, General Surgery, the Burn Unit... multiple departments working together.”

”I recall you were quite interested in our hospital’s rescue efforts, Director Yao, and even published some of your own opinions on the matter. Since we have experts from every hospital and department here today, it’s the perfect opportunity to sit down together, have some tea, go through the presentation, and have an in-depth discussion.”

After speaking, Jiang Ming gestured for Yao Shi to follow, giving him no opportunity to refuse.

Yao Shi blinked, a sudden sense of unease washing over him. ’Something feels off. It seems Director Huo is up to no good.’

Jiang Ming led Yao Shi to a seat directly across from Director Huo. Beside Huo Yun sat a young doctor.

’Isn’t that their mascot?’

Yao Shi recognized Wu Ting instantly, and his heart sank.

There was Zheng Duqing from City First Hospital’s General Surgery Department, Huang Hong from the National Medical Department, Lu Xiong from Orthopedics, Director Zhang Zhong from the Military Hospital’s General Surgery Department, Director Jin Yu from Bei City First People’s Hospital’s Emergency Department... even Professor Shen Guofeng, Director of the Emergency Department at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital... and Li Baohua, the Director of General Surgery from his own City Second Hospital.

Yao Shi could feel the immense weight of the panel’s lineup!

Once everyone was seated, Huo Yun’s booming voice kicked things off.

He started by thanking all the directors and experts for attending. Then, he presented a summary and shared the overall data from the mass casualty rescue operation at the Yu State chemical plant.

Seeing the results City First Hospital had achieved during the rescue, the directors in attendance were filled with admiration. Even Professor Shen Guofeng seemed impressed.

News reports and social media posts had failed to convey the true hardship of the situation or the incredible professionalism City First Hospital had demonstrated.

But now, as a well-prepared Huo Yun presented previously unreleased photos, video footage, and statistical data from the scene, everyone got a visceral sense of the operation’s epic scale.

After finishing his general overview, Huo Yun presented the three key surgical techniques that were instrumental to the rescue effort:

”First: the Combined Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatment for Tracheotomy...”

”Second: the Haijin Gang Burn Fluid Replacement Formula...”

”And finally, a continuous blood purification regimen...”

...

Looking at the three familiar surgical techniques, along with the meticulously selected data, materials, and case studies from Huo Yun’s team.

Yao Shi went completely numb.

Just as he’d feared, Huo Yun proceeded to give an objective and detailed introduction to the three techniques.

The directors and experts present were astounded. As they reviewed the case studies, they were all thoroughly convinced and full of admiration.

Just then, Huo Yun’s voice boomed across the room.

”Today, we have gathered nearly every renowned expert in these fields from across Fan City. So this is the perfect opportunity for me to demand justice for the direct contributor to these three surgical techniques: Dr. Wu Ting.”

”Director Yao from City Second Hospital’s General Surgery Department, a senior expert in his own right, has repeatedly posted baseless criticisms and questioned our department’s Dr. Wu Ting on his Kuaiyin social media account. Today seems like the perfect chance to let the fledgling Dr. Wu Ting ask for Director Yao’s ’guidance.’”

The screen behind him switched, displaying screenshots of Yao Shi’s comments from his Kuaiyin account.

Wu Ting slowly rose to his feet and turned to face Yao Shi.
