Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Jiang Ming Steps Aside! Wu Ting Begins Special Training

But Wu Ting had mastered too few surgical techniques at the moment.

A Tracheotomy was clearly unsuitable for a show like Path to Health, and tendon repair was too broad a topic to be a suitable subject.

Huo Yun mulled it over and had an idea. He looked at Jiang Ming.

Jiang Ming was perceptive; how could he not understand Huo Yun’s intention? If it had been anyone else, he definitely wouldn’t have agreed.

But over the past few days, Wu Ting had completely won his admiration and approval.

Jiang Ming took the initiative and said to Director Huo and Dean Tang:

”I have an idea. For the Emergency Department’s topic on laparoscopic appendectomy, let’s have Wu Ting perform it as the lead surgeon! He can take my place on the show.”

Jiang Ming came from a family with resources and connections, and he was plenty talented himself. So, while this opportunity was rare, he was magnanimous enough to offer it to Wu Ting.

”The only thing is, this would require Wu Ting to master laparoscopic appendectomy in the shortest possible time. That’s no small feat.”

For any other doctor, it would be practically impossible. But Wu Ting already had a foundation in traditional appendectomies, and with his astonishing clinical talent, Jiang Ming was willing to give it a shot.

Huo Yun looked at Wu Ting sternly.

”Wu Ting, do you have the confidence? As long as you have the conviction and willpower, we’ll put you through special training for laparoscopic appendectomy. But it will be extremely difficult! Think it over carefully.”

”When the time comes, I’ll coordinate with Director Cai. The show itself has twenty-four episodes, so we can schedule you for a later one. As soon as you’ve mastered the procedure, we’ll start filming.”

Faced with the expectations of these major figures, Wu Ting responded with confidence:

”Director Huo, Director Jiang, I guarantee I’ll complete the task. I’ve been studying and observing many laparoscopic appendectomies lately, and I already have some ideas.”

”I believe Director Jiang’s line of thinking has limitless potential. Minimally invasive, and even non-invasive, laparoscopic appendectomy is the way of the future. From now on, I will focus on this surgical technique, striving to master the conventional method while also improving and optimizing the minimally invasive technique.”

”In fact, I already have a direction in mind. Thank you, Directors, for giving me this opportunity to prove myself.”

Wu Ting’s confident and composed demeanor earned the great appreciation of the directors and Dean Tang present.

”Young people need this kind of drive and confidence. We’ll keep this among the few of us for now. Once Wu Ting’s laparoscopic appendectomy has matured, we’ll start arranging the subsequent filming, free clinics, and online and offline promotions.”

Jiang Ming patted Wu Ting on the shoulder.

”Wu Ting, I’ll arrange for you to perform more surgeries. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask me right away. I’ll work with you to prepare for this project.”

Wu Ting was very grateful for Jiang Ming’s generosity and support.

”Thank you, Director Jiang, for giving me this opportunity. I will not let you, Director Huo, or Dean Tang down.”

”Good, then it’s decided. I have something else to attend to. If your project team needs funding, equipment, or personnel, just let me know. I’ll provide my full support within the scope of my authority!”

”Wu Ting, thank you so much for what you did for my cousin’s condition.”

After offering a few more words of encouragement, Dean Tang was the first to leave.

”Wu Ting, keep up the hard work.”

Lu Xiong and Huang Hong also encouraged him before leaving to arrange Qian Xiong’s first treatment session.

After seeing Huo Yun and Jiang Ming’s determination, Director Zheng also decided to help the young man.

”Director Huo, Director Jiang, I have an idea. The director of general surgery at Fan City Military Hospital, Zhang Zhong, is a fellow apprentice of mine. He recently had the idea of inviting me over for a laparoscopic appendectomy exchange.”

”This is an excellent opportunity. First, it will allow Wu Ting to get some hands-on practice and broaden his horizons. Second, I can introduce him to my senior brother and let him make an impression on a director from another hospital. That will be a boon to his future career.”

Zheng Duqing was prepared to give Wu Ting a leg up.

”Director Zhang Zhong has unique insights into pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy techniques, so it’s a great learning opportunity. The Military Hospital has always been close with our City First Hospital, making them a strong ally in the field!”

Huo Yun was pleasantly surprised by how highly Director Zheng thought of Wu Ting.

He was also amazed at how well-liked Wu Ting was. It hadn’t been long, yet Lu Xiong from Orthopedics, Huang Hong from the National Medical Department, and now even Zheng Duqing from General Surgery all admired and supported him so much.

”Hurry up and thank Director Zheng.”

The chance to go to the Military Hospital for an academic exchange with Director Zheng made Wu Ting very happy. ’I might even get a bunch of new traits from this special training,’ he thought.

”Director Zheng, thank you for this opportunity! I will do my best.”

With the [Scar-Hiding Laparoscopic Appendectomy (Purple)] trait, Wu Ting had already mastered the basic laparoscopic appendectomy long ago. He was brimming with confidence.

Director Zheng was very satisfied with Wu Ting’s unflustered and composed demeanor. Some young doctors were indecisive; they’d complain it was unfair when not given a chance, but then worry they’d fail when they got one. How could such a wishy-washy person ever achieve greatness?

For an ordinary doctor, even if Jiang Ming was willing to step aside, and Huo Yun and Dean Tang were willing to throw their weight behind them, would they even dare to accept such an opportunity?

Mastering laparoscopic appendectomy in a short period was not a challenge that could be easily overcome.

”Alright, once I’ve contacted Director Zhang at the Military Hospital, we’ll go there for the surgical exchange together.”

In the Emergency Department ward, Qian Xiong was in high spirits after learning he didn’t have acute appendicitis, but a herniated lumbar disc.

”Director Lu, does this mean I only need conservative treatment? A course of traction, acupuncture, and massage will be enough?”

Qian Xiong had been reluctant to undergo surgery from the start, so only needing conservative treatment was perfectly in line with his hopes.

”That’s right. Director Huang and I will arrange your first session of traction, acupuncture, and massage in a little while.”

Lu Xiong couldn’t help but marvel at Wu Ting’s sharp perception. If the correct diagnosis hadn’t been made in time, and they had really followed Song Qi’s idea and opened him up, only to find nothing during the operation, then Qian Xiong would have truly suffered for nothing.

”Director Lu, thank you so much for diagnosing me. This is great, just great.”

Lu Xiong shook his head. ”Uncle Qian, it was actually Dr. Wu Ting who insisted on giving you the orthopedic examination. He was the one who, under pressure from his superior, invited Director Huang and me to diagnose you.”

”You really have Dr. Wu to thank this time. If it weren’t for him, you would have gone through a real ordeal.”

Hearing it was Wu Ting, Qian Xiong exclaimed repeatedly:

”Yes, yes, I really owe it all to Dr. Wu this time. I never expected someone so young to be so skilled.”

”Speaking of which, it really makes me angry. Yesterday, I was scrolling through Kuaiyin and saw Dr. Wu being slandered. Especially that Director Yao from City Second Hospital—some people just love to stir up trouble.”

After preparations were made, Lu Xiong took Qian Xiong for his first treatment, and the results were surprisingly effective.

Dean Tang received the feedback right away.

After just one session, Qian Xiong’s symptoms had already eased!

It wouldn’t be long before he could be fully recovered and discharged.
