Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Women are fragile, yet they are the strongest creatures.

The days pass neither quickly nor slowly. Avery Jane gazes at the sky outside the window; she comes to work daily now but finds herself in an awkward position.

The jewelry photoshoot she did for Grant was enchanting, alluring countless wealthy businessmen to offer dinners requesting the mysterious model from M.C to accompany them. However, M.C rejected them all.

The company hasn’t booked any more advertisements for her, and Angela Scott has been assigned to mentor new talent.

She lounges like a wandering soul on the large balcony at M.C headquarters, sipping tea day by day.

No one dares to provoke her, yet no one tries to get close to her either.

Avery Jane’s existence has become a curious phenomenon.

Rumors swirl in complexity, yet no one dares to openly discuss these matters. Everyone is curious about but fears the unseen patron behind Avery Jane.

Since that day, Avery Jane has disliked Joshua Hughes even more; she hasn’t spoken to him for days. She wishes he were like air, nonexistent, yet sadly finds that air seems absent but is truly everywhere.

He’s been busy these last couple of days. Sometimes, she overhears him on phone calls, faintly hearing that a close friend is getting married. He’s been accompanying the friend for suit fittings, and it seems he’s the best man.

Who could have the influence to invite a man like him to be the best man?

”Avery Jane, someone is looking for you outside the company.”

The receptionist girl ran over; it was easy to find Avery Jane in the company. She was always staying in one place, the receptionist gazing at her beautiful face which was full of unresolved melancholy.

Why is it that a woman so beautiful is yet filled with sorrow?

She’s merely wearing a simple sweater; as the wind blows her black hair, every inch of her seems to ripple with charm. Even a lazy glance or a gentle sigh can captivate one’s heart, making it appear as though beauty is her patented right.

Beauty helps women attain everything; yet this woman, who could have everything, always has an air of sorrow about her eyes and brows. To be thought of by such a woman should be a blissful thing, the receptionist girl stared blankly as Avery Jane smiled softly at her and walked by, truly making even a woman feel drawn to her.

Avery Jane walked to the company hall and saw from afar the driver from the Yates Family standing there, watching her approach: ”Finally found you. Old Master Yates is waiting for you in the car outside.”

Arthur Yates? Why is he looking for her?

Avery Jane’s heart sank, but she followed the driver outside.

Her contact with the Yates Family had been increasingly less, the only person she still cared for in the Yates Family was Lucas Yates’ mother.

As Avery Jane looked at the black car, she had an urge to run away.

The car window rolled down slowly, Arthur Yates’s dry face poked out slightly: ”Get in.”

His tone was filled with disdain, along with impatience and, of course, an order.

But what right does he have to treat her like this? Truth be told, the years she spent at the Yates Family were not under Arthur Yates’s care. Wenyard Cooper had his own bonuses and salary, mostly dedicated to the lab, with a small portion supporting her. After all, she was not a materialistic woman, so her debt has always been to Wenyard, not the entire Yates Family, though speaking so might seem a bit heartless.

Yet even as she understood this, she remained courteous to Arthur Yates regardless, for he was Lucas’s father.

”Dad, did you need something?” Avery Jane bent down and sat inside the car, there was a foul odor, perhaps of smoke or the scent of leather seats, nearly making her nauseous.

Joshua Hughes’s car wouldn’t have this, clean and fresh, seeming to carry his subtle personal musk.

Avery Jane paused for a moment; why did she suddenly think of that man? Though they hadn’t seen each other for two days, it would be best if he had forgotten about her, never to return.

”Avery Jane, now your status is different, having Mr. Hughes as your support, why won’t you even answer your calls?”

Old Master Yates looked at Avery Jane, speaking slowly.

He understood now why Lucas Yates never wanted Avery Jane to go out and work back then; having a woman like her, how could one bear to let her be exposed outside, attracting attention?

Therefore, Arthur Yates boldly speculated that Joshua Hughes was merely seeking something new; Avery Jane wasn’t extraordinary to him, otherwise how could he let her work outside?
