Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

As soon as she took the phone, her heart slowly sank. No matter how warm and bright the winter sun was, it couldn’t stop that ice-cold numb feeling from slowly rising from her feet.

She didn’t need to guess to know who was calling.

She didn’t go back. She didn’t dare imagine the consequences, but they were surely frightening, so frightening that she wanted to escape right then.

Imperial Garden

Joshua Hughes sat in the hall, and after the mysterious older woman served a cup of black coffee, she disappeared again.

She sighed deeply in her heart, yet her face remained as indifferent and expressionless as usual.

Nanny Collins understood; being a child of the Hughes Family, what did it mean?

It meant that throughout the long yet short journey of growing up, every ordinary thought had to be adorned with noble attire because the Hughes Family had the most noble lineage.

Watching Joshua Hughes grow continuously, becoming the most outstanding man, but also watching him gradually distance himself from all warmth.

In every moment, he was so powerful that enemies dreaded him, yet at this moment, she clearly saw the vulnerability in his eyes.

The picturesque Imperial Garden fell into a deathly silence.

Joshua abruptly stood up, truly frustrated by that woman.

What about the man she went to the banquet with?

That Beckett Wright, would she go to him?

Wearing the tattered evening gown, bearing the marks he left on her, would she go to him to weep, and then what?

In such a cold, long night, what would these two do?

Joshua’s face was livid, flashing with terrifying light.

Avery Jane, you better behave, or I’ll make you understand what true sorrow is.

At this moment, Avery seemed to receive his threat even across time and space.

With a hint of fear and unease, she pressed the power button, and as the screen lit up, the call notifications filled her entire inbox, all from the same number, the number that made her heart pound with fear.

The slight flush that had just kindled on her small face instantly turned pale again.

”Avery, if there’s anything you don’t want to do, you don’t have to compromise.” The voice beside her pulled her back to reality from the boundless fear.

Beckett Wright stood before her in white, exuding a clean aura.

”Can I? Can I? You don’t understand, Beckett, you can never understand.” Avery spoke bitterly, realizing how terrifying Joshua was after only a few days of contact.

Beckett’s words were so tempting, telling her she didn’t have to compromise.

Did he think she hadn’t tried hard enough?

But some things are just like that; even if you try your best, you can’t resist fate.

Fate is a strange thing, its arrival unstoppable, its arrangements unavoidable.

”Then tell me, I can help you, Avery.” Beckett’s eyes were full of heartache, watching Avery’s hand holding the phone tremble slightly in fear, her face’s flush slowly fading to a ghastly white.

Was she terrified of the person who called her, the same man who did terrible things to her last night?

”You can’t help me, no one can help me.” Avery sat blankly on the sofa, her words were like murmurs, her expression dazed.

How could that man possibly spare her, and how could Beckett, such a gentle and jade-like man, be a match for that Beast?

Joshua Hughes was a monster, with eagle-like sharp eyes, fox-like cunning, and a wolf-like cruel heart.

She was already suffering; how could she drag others into it?

Even her once unwavering belief in love was shattered and fragmented by his cruelty and heartlessness.

She hung her head low, her long hair draping down as light and shadow danced across her face, gripping the phone, hesitating whether to call him.

She dared not, as if once she dialed his number, he would magically leap out from the phone and swallow her whole.

Silence fell over the room, Beckett didn’t push her, knowing that if she didn’t speak, asking would be in vain.

He simply sat quietly beside her, watching as she curled up on the sofa, slowly huddling herself as if falling into a hibernating animal’s world of contemplation.

The doorbell suddenly rang amidst the silence.

Avery was terrified, her eyes wide, staring at the door, her whole body stiff, an extremely bad feeling rising from her heart.
