Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Today, Luna received many phone calls, quite unlike the days before when her phone might remain silent for days, making her seem as if she lived in a bygone era.

Quietly reading, she would occasionally talk to Lucas’s photo, and her life was as calm as a lake without ripples.

But now, Avery Jane answered the phone.

”Avery Jane, it’s Beckett Wright.”

His voice was clean and warm; Beckett Wright and Wenyard Cooper were similar in that they concentrated on their work and relished it. Such people have a serenity and beauty about them, much like Beckett’s eyes.

”Hello, Mr. Wright.”

The anxiety in Avery Jane’s heart slowly eased, perhaps because Beckett had a certain essence similar to Lucas, making her feel relaxed upon hearing his voice.

”Avery Jane, I’d like to invite you to be my date for tomorrow night’s dinner. Would that be alright?”

Beckett asked tentatively from the other end of the line.

”Okay.” Avery Jane’s response allowed him to let out a sigh of relief, his heart finally settling.

”I’ll pick you up at seven tomorrow evening, and please allow me to prepare the gown for you—it was designed by myself.”

Since meeting her, his mind was always filled with beautiful lines, so he transformed these inspirations into a beautiful gown, working tirelessly, hoping to see the woman of his dreams shine brilliantly at such an event.

”Thank you, please come to my company to pick me up, alright?”

Avery Jane thought, he couldn’t possibly pick her up from the Yates Family, nor from Joshua’s Imperial Garden, so the safest place was her company.

”Alright, I’ll have someone deliver the gown tomorrow afternoon; see you tomorrow night.”

Beckett’s voice was as warm as sunshine on a spring day, and Avery Jane couldn’t help but nod.

After hanging up, Avery Jane smiled at Angela Scott and said, ”I have a date, Mr. Wright invited me as his date, and it’s just perfect.”

Angela Scott smiled, but inside she was bitter; so it was like this. Beckett really did like Avery Jane.

No matter how hard one tries, people only see the beautiful exterior, and no matter how sunny or positive she tries to be, it’s of no use.

Reversal of fortune, that’s a phrase that had never come true for her.

”Scott, what’s wrong, not feeling well?”

Avery Jane noticed Angela Scott’s face, which didn’t look very good.

”It’s nothing, just a lot of things happening lately; I’m a bit tired, I’ll just go to bed early tonight.”

Angela Scott lowered her head, hiding the bitterness and discontent in her heart, answering faintly.

Too many things that don’t feel right, for instance, you didn’t truly consider me a friend.

For instance, there’s a designer I’ve silently admired for many years, but he likes you.

For instance, you’ve become the woman of the richest man, while I’m still struggling with mortgage payments.

For instance, even Heaven has favored you, giving you beauty, yet leaving me ordinary like this.

A whole day at work was simple and smooth.

In the evening, Avery Jane walked out of the company and immediately saw the luxurious business car parked at the street corner.

Once she came into view, the car window slowly rolled down.

Avery Jane’s heart suddenly fluttered, indeed it was Joshua Hughes, that haunting man.

Even from this distance, she could feel the scorching intensity in his gaze.

His eyes commanded her to get in the car, and Avery Jane took a deep breath, looked around, and swiftly slipped into the vehicle while nobody was watching.

”Are you afraid of being seen with me?”

Her sneaky and stealthy behavior made him uncomfortable.

Is he the kind of man that can’t be seen in daylight?

”I’m afraid it might affect you, there are often reporters spying near the company. If it makes headlines and Evelyn sees it, it wouldn’t be good.”

Avery Jane lowered her head, not daring to look at him, quietly explaining.

Joshua Hughes laughed coldly, ”What’s it got to do with her?”

This little woman really overthinks things; no one, not even a god, can dictate whom he chooses to be with.

Does Evelyn Yates even dare assume she can stand equal to him?

”She’s always your girlfriend now...” Avery Jane murmured, seeming to know without looking that he might not be happy.

”Girlfriend?” Joshua’s eyes glowed with icy sharpness: ”Never mention that word in front of me.” His tone turned frigid, making you shudder involuntarily.

The car drove off, Joshua watching the woman beside him, who just came with a large bag as if it contained luggage, allowing her a flair for discretion.

Back at Imperial Garden

The scenery was as usual, but her mood had changed.

In the restaurant, dinner was already set, Joshua was picky with food; everything was exquisite and almost astonishing.

”I miss the time we ate while soaking in the hot springs, the taste was remarkable.”

The desire flickering in his eyes made Avery Jane nervous; his extraordinary energy was somewhat overwhelming to her.

Even though she lacked more experience to compare, she always felt Joshua’s vigor was greater than ordinary.

Once dinner was done, he did not make things difficult for her.

After the meal, he went upstairs to the study to address matters; in such an extensive enterprise, there’s undoubtedly countless affairs to manage daily.

Avery Jane sat alone in the garden.

It was truly beautiful here, somewhat like a traditional Japanese courtyard, yet not quite.

With Joshua Hughes being such a chauvinistic man, he definitely wouldn’t make the house fully Japanese-style, moreover, the establishment was somewhat aged, the wood used in its construction had turned smooth and delicate.

She walked quietly, pondering over that elusive older woman.

She would arrange everything but was never seen, like a ghost.

Thinking of this, Avery Jane couldn’t help but shiver, as darkness engulfed the sky like ink and the wind rose slightly cold, she returned indoors.

On the lantern of oil parchment paper were beautifully intricate flower patterns, the entire room carried a light woody fragrance; she gazed at the silent garden, the hot spring inside seemed to beckon her.

In such chilly weather, it was ideal to soak deeply in that warm water.

She changed into a loose cotton robe and slipped to the hot spring.

Once she removed the robe, she was wearing nothing underneath, and Avery Jane quickly submerged herself in the water, its warmth encompassing from all sides, comforting her to the point of letting out a long sigh.

If not for Joshua Hughes really being insufferable, she would truly enjoy this place, from its architectural style, to the undisturbed feeling, to the soothing hot springs.

”You’re certainly enjoying it, huh?”

The man’s low and hoarse voice rumbled above her.

Avery Jane quickly looked up, meeting the dark eyes, deeper than tonight’s shadows, more somber than any ink...
