Medical and Martial God

Chapter 409: Chapter 409: The Ultimate Face-Slapping Scene

A coarse-looking middle-aged woman walked over, sizing up Song Mingde and the others before asking, ”Who’s the doctor?”

”I am,” Ye Xiu said.

”You?” The middle-aged woman was taken aback, then became angry. ”The Mingde Ancient Medical Hall advertises free treatment, but you’re just going to let some kid practice on us?”

That’s what she said, but inwardly she was ecstatic. If a young doctor treated her, that 100,000 in compensation was as good as hers!

Meanwhile, the ancient doctors chuckled. Look at that. The treatment hasn’t even started and he’s already being questioned. The old Director is just messing around, letting a driver treat patients. This is going to cause an uproar, isn’t it?

Song Yushu, Song Mingde, and Song Kaiwen remained expressionless. They were sensible people and refused to form an opinion—not even in their own minds—until they had witnessed Ye Xiu’s medical skills for themselves.

”Ma’am, do you often feel an internal heat and a sensation of heartburn?” Ye Xiu calmly asked.

”Pfft!” The bald ancient doctor couldn’t help but laugh out loud. ”Kid, Ancient Medicine relies on inspection, auscultation, inquiry, and palpation. Are you just making wild guesses?”

The other ancient doctors also laughed.

Song Mingde and Song Kaiwen secretly shook their heads. It seemed this driver was all talk and knew nothing about medical skills.

Song Yushu’s face was as black as coal. That guy, Ye Liangchen, is just putting on a show.

”You... how did you know?” the middle-aged woman asked, shocked.

Huh?

Song Yushu, Song Mingde, Song Kaiwen, and the ancient doctors were all astonished.

Ye Liangchen actually guessed it right?

”Ma’am, please roll up your right sleeve,” Ye Xiu said.

”Oh! Oh!” The middle-aged woman no longer dared to underestimate Ye Xiu and quickly rolled up her sleeve.

Ye Xiu produced a silver needle seemingly from nowhere. Holding the woman’s right wrist with his left hand, his right hand moved swiftly, applying acupuncture to her arm. He used only that single silver needle, but he moved it between different acupoints, varying the depth and angle of insertion for each one.

One minute later, Ye Xiu asked with a smile, ”How do you feel?”

”The heat is gone! The heartburn is gone! You’re a Divine Doctor! A true Divine Doctor!” the middle-aged woman said excitedly. At this moment, she had forgotten all about the 100,000 in compensation. Compared to money, having her illness cured was far more important.

”Remember, don’t eat spicy or irritating foods for the next week. You can also buy some Liuwei Dihuang Pills. Your condition is a deficiency of kidney Yin,” Ye Xiu advised.

”Yes, yes, of course!” The middle-aged woman nodded repeatedly and left in high spirits.

Song Yushu, Song Mingde, Song Kaiwen, and the ancient doctors watched Ye Xiu, dumbfounded.

”Young man, forgive my poor judgment,” Song Mingde said, humbly seeking guidance. ”I’ve practiced medicine for decades and have seen all kinds of acupuncture techniques. What was the Acupuncture Technique you just used?”

Song Yushu, Song Kaiwen, and the ancient doctors pricked up their ears, their gazes fixed intently on Ye Xiu.

”I’ll tell you privately when I have a moment,” Ye Xiu said with a smile.

The ancient doctors’ faces immediately darkened. Ye Xiu clearly didn’t want them to hear.

”Next, please,” Ye Xiu called out. This time, no one laughed at him. He had used his genuine skill to slap all of the ancient doctors in the face.

”Make way! Everyone, make way!”

At that moment, four young men shoved people out of the way as Qin Ming pushed a stretcher through, earning a barrage of curses from the patients in line.

”Why are they cutting in line?” Song Yushu said, displeased.

”It’s fine,” Ye Xiu said, his eyes fixed on the middle-aged man pushing the stretcher.

My father-in-law, Qin Ming! And the person on the stretcher must be his mother!

”Doctor, please save my mom,” Qin Ming said, his face devoid of expression. He inwardly cursed Jiao Fuping to death. That bastard had sent him here with his elderly mother just to be publicly humiliated.

”What illness does your mother have? Do you have her medical records?” Song Mingde asked quickly, seeing at a glance that the elderly woman on the stretcher was seriously ill.

”Yes!” Qin Ming hurriedly handed the medical records, various diagnostic results, and medical scans to Song Mingde.

Song Kaiwen, Song Yushu, and the ancient doctors quickly gathered around to look.

”This...” When they saw the woman’s condition, their expressions changed dramatically. This wasn’t a patient they were bringing in; this was a dying woman.

”Young man, you should take a look at the patient’s records, too,” Song Mingde said to Ye Xiu.

Just then, he and the others noticed that Ye Xiu was already taking the woman’s pulse.

”No need to look,” Ye Xiu said solemnly. ”She has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Her lungs already show signs of fibrosis, and she has pulmonary hypertension. The standard treatment for this is a lung transplant. However, the patient also has severe hypertension, heart disease, and her liver and kidney function is poor. In her condition, the success rate for a lung transplant would be less than five percent.”

HISS!

Qin Ming, Song Yushu, Song Mingde, Song Kaiwen, and the ancient doctors all inhaled sharply. What Ye Xiu said matched the medical records exactly.

As practitioners of Ancient Medicine, Song Mingde and the others knew very well that many of the mother’s conditions could not be diagnosed using their traditional methods. Yet Ye Xiu, after merely taking her pulse for a short while, had described her condition with such precision. His skill was simply divine!

Qin Ming finally recognized Ye Xiu. ”It’s you! I remember you—you’re the one who borrowed a lighter from me last night. You also came looking for me at the Han Jin City International Entertainment Club.”

”I asked you last night if there was anything I could help with,” Ye Xiu said with a smile. ”If you had brought your mother to me yesterday, she’d be up and about by now.”

Qin Ming was taken aback. ”You can cure my mom?”

Before Ye Xiu could answer, Song Kaiwen quickly pulled him aside. ”Young man,” he said in a low voice, ”perhaps your medical skills are impressive, but this patient’s condition is highly unusual. Even the world’s top surgeons wouldn’t be confident performing a lung transplant on her. Her case is just too complex.”

Song Mingde added, ”Young man, we are practitioners of Ancient Medicine; surgery isn’t our specialty. If you take on this patient, who is all but certain to die, you could ruin your entire medical career.” He had taken a liking to this young man and hoped to see him go far on his path as a doctor.

Song Yushu also chimed in, ”Ye Liangchen, calm down. Let’s not even mention that we don’t have a fresh lung for a transplant here. Even if we did, with such a complex case, there’s absolutely no chance you could successfully complete the surgery.”

The other ancient doctors also began trying to dissuade him. Their concern wasn’t that Ye Xiu would fail the surgery and ruin his career, but that if the patient died on his watch, the resulting scandal would tarnish their own reputations.

Ye Xiu ignored them, walked up to Qin Ming, and asked, ”Do you trust me?”

Trust you? My ass... Qin Ming was completely unconvinced. He asked, ”First, tell me what method you plan to use to treat my mother.”

At this point, Song Mingde interjected, ”Young man, even if you’re confident in the surgery, we don’t have a lung donor. What would you use for the transplant?”

”A lung transplant isn’t necessary,” Ye Xiu stated confidently. ”Just prepare 360 silver needles for me.”

Hearing this, Qin Ming’s face darkened. As a Ph.D. in genetics, he understood medical principles and was knowledgeable, even if he wasn’t a practicing doctor. His mother’s condition was so severe that only a lung transplant could possibly save her.

He stated sternly, ”I will not agree to you using acupuncture to treat my mother.”

Song Mingde tried to reason with Ye Xiu patiently, ”The patient’s condition is far too complex. Even if you gathered the most skilled cardiothoracic surgeons from around the world, they might not succeed. Acupuncture is merely a therapeutic treatment; it’s completely incapable of curing such a major illness.”

Song Yushu, Song Kaiwen, and the other ancient doctors also came over to try and dissuade him.

Ye Xiu felt a headache coming on. He knew that, under the circumstances, it would be difficult to earn Qin Ming’s trust without revealing his true identity.

So, he said to Qin Ming, ”Come with me.”

”Why?” Qin Ming hesitated for a moment but ultimately followed him.

This left Song Yushu and the others completely bewildered. They couldn’t fathom what Ye Xiu wanted to discuss with Qin Ming in private.
