Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Earning 3.6 Billion in Tears

”Putting on a mysterious act!” Ye Shaokang snorted coldly, then crudely ripped the sunglasses and mask from Ye Xiu’s face.

He was very rough. He wasn’t afraid of Song Penghui, and the Ye Family wasn’t afraid of the Vajra Sect. Even if Song Penghui had tried to stop him, he wouldn’t have succeeded. Song Penghui’s defensive power was superior, but he was no match for Ye Shaokang in any other aspect.

However, when Ye Shaokang saw the face behind the sunglasses and mask, he screamed as if he had seen a ghost. ”Ye Xiu?”

As he cried out, he stumbled back several steps, his face and eyes filled with terror.

”To think you can still recognize me at a glance after ten years, Uncle. As your nephew, I’m truly moved,” Ye Xiu said with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

”Heh heh, nephew... I’m just so overjoyed to see you, heh...” Ye Shaokang forced a smile that looked uglier than a grimace. He was scared out of his wits.

Before Ye Xiu was expelled from the Ye Family, Ye Shaokang had tormented him relentlessly. He’d been especially cruel when Ye Xiu was just over two years old, pinching and twisting his skin until he was covered in bruises. Then, ten years ago, when Ye Xiu returned to the family, he had hurled insults at both Ye Xiu and his mother, even kicking the boy so hard he vomited blood.

Considering what Ye Xiu had done to Ye Xuan and Zheng Yiwen, he was terrified that Ye Xiu might kill or cripple him.

”I’m happy, too,” Ye Xiu sneered. ”After ten years, you suddenly show up in Jin Ye City. Surely you didn’t come all this way just to visit me?”

”Yes, yes, I did! I really came to see you. It’s been ten years, and your uncle has missed you terribly,” Ye Shaokang said, his smile more pained than a cry.

”Since you came to see me, you wouldn’t have come empty-handed, would you?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Ah? Oh, right, right! Your Uncle has indeed brought you a gift.” Ye Shaokang quickly pulled the White Jade Box containing the Marrow Cleansing Pill from his pocket. ”This is a Marrow Cleansing Pill. I won it at the auction specifically for you. As you know, Uncle spent a full 4 billion on it! Heh, so... do you like it, nephew?”

”I like it very much.” Ye Xiu took the White Jade Box directly from Ye Shaokang’s hands.

The President of the Yunxuan Auction Company and everyone else present were left dumbfounded by this scene.

Ye Shaokang spent 4 billion to win the Marrow Cleansing Pill, and Ye Xiu just snatched it away like that?

”Divine Doctor Ye, that—” the President began, approaching with a dark expression.

Seeing this, Ye Shaokang scolded him, ”Liu Shan, what’s with that look? You look like your father just died! Are you trying to disrespect my nephew?”

President Liu Shan was floored by Ye Shaokang’s audacity. Everyone in Xuanse knew how the Ye Family treated Ye Xiu. This act was nothing but shameless hypocrisy.

However, Liu Shan couldn’t afford to offend Ye Shaokang, so he forced an awkward smile. ”Forgive me, but I find it hard to be happy about losing out on 3.6 billion,” the President said with a bitter smile.

Ye Shaokang was taken aback. ”What do you mean by that?”

Liu Shan glanced at Ye Xiu, and only after seeing him nod did he explain, ”This afternoon, Divine Doctor Ye sent someone to find me. He spent 400 million to purchase the Marrow Cleansing Pill, then entrusted the Yunxuan Auction Company to auction it for him.”

Ye Shaokang was stunned. This... No wonder Ye Xiu was bidding so furiously at the auction—he was just driving up the price for himself! And in the end, the Marrow Cleansing Pill ended up back in his hands. Does that mean he just made a clean 3.6 billion and got the pill for free?

Actually, Liu Shan was also having a massive headache. When Ye Xiu’s representative had shown up that afternoon and offered 400 million for the Marrow Cleansing Pill, he had been ecstatic. In his opinion, the pill was worth 300 million at most. Selling it for 400 million meant the auction house made an easy 100 million. But the auction had unexpectedly driven the price up to 4 billion, meaning the company had lost out on 3.6 billion.

”I never expected the Marrow Cleansing Pill to fetch such a high price. I was so nervous during the bidding. Making that 3.6 billion really brought tears to my eyes,” Ye Xiu said, feigning lingering anxiety.

Liu Shan and Ye Shaokang scoffed internally.

Acting! Keep it up! We saw you causing all that trouble and showboating during the auction. Do you take us for fools?

Despite their inner thoughts, neither Liu Shan nor Ye Shaokang dared to say a word.

”President Liu, here’s my bank account. Once the Ye Family’s payment comes through, please transfer my 3.6 billion to this account,” Ye Xiu said, handing Liu Shan a slip of paper with the account number.

”Rest assured, Divine Doctor Ye. Although my misjudgment cost the company 3.6 billion, our reputation comes first. We won’t default on the payment,” Liu Shan said solemnly.

Ye Xiu nodded and asked, ”President Liu, can you tell me the source of the Marrow Cleansing Pill?”

”I’m sorry. I promised the person who sold it to me that I would never reveal his identity. I hope Divine Doctor Ye can understand,” Liu Shan said apologetically.

”In that case, I won’t disturb your rest, President Liu.” Ye Xiu didn’t press the matter. He shook hands with Liu Shan, then left the president’s office with Ye Shaokang in tow.

”Uhm, my good nephew, where... where are you taking me?” Ye Shaokang asked while they waited for the elevator, trying to suppress his fear.

”Uncle, you’re surely aware of the situation outside, aren’t you?” Ye Xiu asked.

”I can guess. There are probably countless people out there waiting to rob me of the Marrow Cleansing Pill,” Ye Shaokang snorted contemptuously. ”But don’t you worry, nephew. I’m an Eighth Grade Grandmaster. When I decide to run, that rabble outside won’t be able to stop me.”

”The girl who sat with me in the auction hall, number 17, is Kuroki Suzu, a disciple of Yagyu Uemon—one of the nine Serpent Heads of the Tiansha Association. She possesses the power of a War God. Are you so sure you can escape from her?” Ye Xiu asked with a cold smile.

”What?” Hearing the name Kuroki Suzu, the color drained from Ye Shaokang’s face. He would have a hard time escaping from a Great Grandmaster, let alone someone like Kuroki Suzu, from whom escape would be impossible.

”Nephew, listen... I’ve already given you the Marrow Cleansing Pill! You... you have to help me escape!” Ye Shaokang pleaded, his voice laced with panic.

”Don’t worry!” Ye Xiu smiled and patted Ye Shaokang’s shoulder. He took out the White Jade Box, removed the Marrow Cleansing Pill, and pocketed it. Then, he produced a different Medicinal Pill of a similar size and appearance and placed it inside the empty box.

He handed it to Ye Shaokang, saying, ”If Kuroki Suzu intercepts you, act very reluctant, and then give this to her.”

Ye Shaokang took the box and asked blankly, ”You want to use me to set a trap for Kuroki Suzu?”

”You’re overthinking it, Uncle. The box doesn’t contain poison; it’s just an ordinary stimulant,” Ye Xiu explained.

”Alright then!” Ye Shaokang’s mouth twitched.

「Outside the Yunxuan Auction Company」

At that moment, a massive crowd had gathered. Everyone who had attended the auction was there, along with those who couldn’t afford the deposit to get in. Of course, most had simply stayed behind to watch the show. Only a handful of unscrupulous individuals actually planned to rob Ye Shaokang.

Just then, Ye Shaokang emerged from the Yunxuan Auction Company, wearing a hat and a mask.

An uproar erupted. In an instant, over a hundred people drew their weapons and surged toward Ye Shaokang.
