Medical and Martial God

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Crying in Anger

”Help me?” Kuroki Suzu was so furious she could have coughed up blood, barely suppressing the urge to strangle Ye Xiu. ”The price of a Marrow Cleansing Pill wouldn’t exceed 300 million at most, but you just raised it to one billion. Is that what you call helping me?”

”You underestimate the determination of the people here to get the Marrow Cleansing Pill. The price will definitely exceed two billion,” Ye Xiu asserted confidently.

Kuroki Suzu snorted. ”Do you think everyone at this auction is a fool? Forget two billion, no one besides me would bid over 300 million.”

At that moment, the host surveyed the room and asked in a booming voice, ”Number 19 bids one billion. Is there anyone else willing to raise? One billion going once, one billion going twice...”

”One billion and one million,” bidder number 37 raised their placard.

SMACK!

Kuroki Suzu felt as if she’d just been slapped across the face. She had just declared that no one would bid above 300 million, and now bidder 37 had raised it to one billion and one million.

What the hell? Is that bidder insane? Even if they have money to burn, it makes no sense to spend over a billion on a Marrow Cleansing Pill worth 300 million at most.

”One billion and two million,” bidder number 4 raised their placard.

Kuroki Suzu was speechless.

Heh, so there’s more than one obscenely rich idiot here.

”One billion and three million.”

”One billion and four million.”

”One billion and five million.”

The price kept climbing. Kuroki Suzu was shocked. Are there really this many wealthy people in Xuanse?

”Let me give you another push,” Ye Xiu said, lifting his placard. ”1.5 billion.”

”Don’t—” Kuroki Suzu tried to stop him, but it was too late. A wave of dizziness from sheer rage washed over her.

The others present were just as infuriated by Ye Xiu’s 1.5 billion bid. Curses erupted from all around.

”Number 19, are you insane? Who bids like that?”

”Idiot! Moron! What good does it do you to drive the price up so recklessly?”

”You spendthrift! Even if you’re rich, you can’t just throw money away like that! If I were your father, I’d have beaten you to death by now!”

The crowd was in an uproar.

Kuroki Suzu ground her teeth and roared, ”From now on, shut your mouth! I don’t need your help! If you keep ’helping’ like this, I’ll be bankrupt even if I do win the Marrow Cleansing Pill!”

Completely indifferent to the anger from Kuroki Suzu and the rest of the crowd, Ye Xiu said, ”So much for good intentions. Fine, if you don’t want my help, I’ll just have to bid on the Marrow Cleansing Pill for myself.”

With that, he raised his placard again and shouted, ”Two billion!”

”You...” Kuroki Suzu felt another wave of dizziness wash over her.

The torrent of curses died instantly.

Everyone was stunned silent by the two-billion bid. Although they were all wealthy, very few of them could actually produce two billion in cash on the spot. Even those who could were unwilling to spend it on a single Marrow Cleansing Pill.

”Shui, have you lost your mind?” Kuroki Suzu panted with rage. ”The reason everyone here wants the Marrow Cleansing Pill boils down to four things.

”One, they want to help an Eighth Grade Grandmaster from their family or Sect break through to become a Great Grandmaster.

”Two, they want to cultivate a martial arts prodigy.

”Three, they want to use it to win over an Ancient Martial Family or Sect.

”Four, they have a terminally ill family member or an elder who is near the end of their life.”

Her voice filled with anguish as she continued, ”With two billion, you could cultivate several Great Grandmasters! You could buy countless precious herbs and Martial Arts Classics to raise a whole batch of geniuses! You could use it to curry favor with a dozen Ancient Martial Families or Sects! You could extend the lives of terminally ill or elderly family members for many years!

”Is spending two billion on a single Marrow Cleansing Pill really worth it?!” she screamed.

Of course, she wasn’t just angry about his reckless bidding. She was terrified that he was serious about buying the Marrow Cleansing Pill, which would mean she wouldn’t get it.

”What can I say? I’m just too rich. I can’t even spend it all. Might as well throw some money at the auction house,” Ye Xiu said with a chuckle. ”If you can’t keep up, you should probably leave now. I’m getting that Marrow Cleansing Pill one way or another. A friendly reminder: when it comes to cash flow, all of you combined don’t even come close to me.”

Provocative!

Arrogant!

Domineering!

A complete disregard for everyone present!

Everyone in the room swore to the heavens that if they weren’t unsure of Number 19’s identity, if the attendees weren’t all formidable in their own right, and if they weren’t afraid of disrupting the auction, someone would have already leaped up in a rage and cut the man down for his attitude.

”Don’t be so sure of yourself. You’re not the only one here who’s determined to get that Marrow Cleansing Pill,” Kuroki Suzu bit back, resolving to fight him to the end.

”Please, raise your bid,” Ye Xiu gestured invitingly.

”You...” Furious, Kuroki Suzu finally raised her placard. ”Two billion and one million.” She then stared at Ye Xiu provocatively. ”Go on, keep bidding if you dare. I’d love to see just how deep your pockets are.”

”2.1 billion,” Ye Xiu said with a lazy stretch. ”I’ve raised. Your turn.”

”2.1 billion and one million,” Kuroki Suzu retorted.

”2.2 billion,” Ye Xiu raised his placard.

”2.2 billion and one million.”

”2.3 billion.”

”2.3 billion and one million.”

Everyone’s scalp tingled as they watched Ye Xiu and Kuroki Suzu stubbornly bid against each other. They were particularly stunned by Ye Xiu, who raised the price by a hundred million each time—an absolutely domineering display of wealth.

Kuroki Suzu glared at Ye Xiu with murder in her eyes. She had originally planned to get the Marrow Cleansing Pill for five or six hundred million, but his meddling had driven the price to this insane level, and it was still skyrocketing. At this rate, the pill would be completely out of her reach.

If someone else won it, Kuroki Suzu was confident she could still try to steal it later. But if this guy with the ridiculously plain name won it, she knew she wouldn’t stand a chance of taking it from him.

”2.5 billion,” Ye Xiu raised his placard mechanically. All this shouting was getting tiring.

Hearing this, Kuroki Suzu’s body trembled. This was her limit; it was all the money the Tiansha Association and the Rongfu Consortium had given her.

Do I really have to give up? But I can’t accept this!

Her mind raced, and she decided to set a trap. Since she was doomed to lose the Marrow Cleansing Pill anyway, she would at least make him overpay for it.

”Two billion, five hundred and one million!” Kuroki Suzu shouted, raising her placard.

She was certain Ye Xiu would bid 2.6 billion next. At that point, she would stop, sticking him with the outrageous bill.

”You win,” Ye Xiu said with a shrug.

”Huh?” Kuroki Suzu was stunned. ”Why aren’t you bidding?”

”I suddenly realized spending this much money on a single Medicinal Pill is a bit of a waste.”

As Ye Xiu spoke, Kuroki Suzu’s breathing could be heard, ragged and trembling like a broken bellows.

”You’re only *now* realizing that spending this much on a Marrow Cleansing Pill is a waste?” she roared.

”Sorry, my reflexes are a little slow. The thought just hit me,” Ye Xiu said apologetically.

Behind her sunglasses, tears of humiliation began to stream from Kuroki Suzu’s eyes. She had literally been angered to tears. Despite having the power of a War God, she was still just a twenty-three-year-old girl. As a prodigy who had grown up showered with praise, she had never been so utterly humiliated and toyed with.

”There, there, don’t cry. It’s okay,” Ye Xiu said, pulling her into a hug and patting her back comfortingly. He took the opportunity to whisper, ”Don’t be angry just yet. Someone else will probably bid again.”
