Medical and Martial God

Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Seeing the Ungrateful Person from the Past Again

Ye Xiu drove at breakneck speed to Shenghe Hospital. By the time he arrived at the operating room, he saw an elderly woman sitting on the floor by the door, weeping bitterly, with an old man standing beside her.

”What are we going to do? If anything happens to Nuonuo, my daughter-in-law will kill me,” she wailed. ”That boiling hotpot broth splashed all over her face! She’ll be disfigured for sure, and Nuonuo will hate us for the rest of her life. Those damn bastards! What a sin, to lay hands on a three-year-old child...” The elderly woman sat on the floor, slapping the ground and sobbing uncontrollably.

”Enough!” the old man beside her scolded. ”What’s all this shouting and carrying on for? The Ghost Doctor is handling this personally. Nuonuo will be fine.”

”I’m scared...” the woman cried, then suddenly stood up in a panic. ”You... you didn’t call our son and daughter-in-law, did you?”

”I did!” the old man said.

SLAP!

The elderly woman slapped the old man across the face. ”Why didn’t you discuss it with me first? You should have at least waited until Nuonuo was out of danger! If our son and daughter-in-law rush over now, she’ll eat me alive...”

”You’d deserve it! If it weren’t for you, would Nuonuo be in this state?” the old man said angrily.

”Ah, I can’t go on...” The old woman sat down on the floor again, wailing and screaming.

”Stop the noise!” Ye Xiu said as he walked over.

”It’s none of your business if I cry! Get lost!” the old woman cursed.

”Then go ahead and cry,” Ye Xiu said coldly. ”But if you distract the doctors in there and their hands slip with the scalpel... well, your granddaughter might not make it.”

The old woman was so frightened she stopped crying at once. As she fell silent, Ye Xiu realized she looked familiar.

He tentatively asked, ”You’re Fang Meijun, aren’t you?”

The old woman was startled. ”You know me?”

So it is her!

Confirming the old woman was Fang Meijun, Ye Xiu was so angry he nearly turned and left on the spot.

That old swindler! To think she’s still alive! It’s true what they say: the good die young, but a scourge lasts a thousand years!

Ten years ago, when Ye Xiu opened his clinic, he treated the poor for free. He had cured Fang Meijun’s chronic renal failure and, seeing that her family was poor, even gave her 5,000 yuan. In return, she left without a single word of thanks. After Ye Xiu was framed and his reputation was ruined across the country, Fang Meijun suddenly appeared at his clinic, rolling on the ground and screaming. She claimed he had botched her treatment, causing her daily backaches and sleepless nights, and adamantly demanded compensation. Back then, Ye Xiu was too naive and gave her 100,000 yuan. Afterward, Fang Meijun went around telling everyone how she had been cursed with the worst luck to be treated by Ye Xiu, slandering and defaming him at every opportunity.

Honestly, I’ve met plenty of people with terrible character, but few have ever reached Fang Meijun’s level.

”What is your relationship to the patient in the operating room?” Ye Xiu asked, fighting the urge to strangle Fang Meijun.

”What’s it to you?” Fang Meijun snapped. ”If you have nothing better to do, stop gawking! Get out of here! Don’t pollute the air and disturb the Ghost Doctor while he’s trying to save my granddaughter.”

”You...” Ye Xiu was furious. ”Fine, I’ll go. Just don’t come begging me.”

With that, he turned to leave.

”Pah! Why the hell would I beg you? Get lost! Go on, get far away from here! The sight of any stranger makes me angry right now!” Fang Meijun spat in Ye Xiu’s direction and cursed loudly.

Just then, the door to the operating room opened. The Ghost Doctor stepped out, saw Ye Xiu’s retreating back, and called out, ”Master.”

Fang Meijun and the old man were dumbfounded.

That young man is the Ghost Doctor’s Master?

”Have the patient transferred to another hospital. I won’t treat any member of Fang Meijun’s family,” Ye Xiu said coldly. He was afraid Fang Meijun would try to extort him again later. He was certain that, after all was said and done, she would find a way to make trouble and spread malicious lies.

Fang Meijun stormed over and spat at Ye Xiu. ”Who asked you to save her? The Ghost Doctor will save my granddaughter!”

”I can’t save your granddaughter,” the Ghost Doctor said.

”What?” Fang Meijun was stunned.

The old man rushed over in a panic. ”Ghost Doctor, you’re the number one Divine Doctor in Xuanse! Nuonuo was just splashed with some hotpot broth. How could you be unable to save her?”

”Nuonuo’s right leg is broken. The boiling hotpot broth was splashed directly onto her face, scalding her eyes with both heat and spices. The soup also entered her mouth, burning her oral cavity and trachea,” the Ghost Doctor said calmly. ”She’s in extreme danger. If my Master doesn’t operate, she won’t live for more than three hours.”

Hearing that their granddaughter wouldn’t live more than three hours, Fang Meijun and the old man turned deathly pale and nearly fainted from shock.

”Divine Doctor!” The old man suddenly grabbed Ye Xiu’s hand, pleading, ”I beg you, please save Nuonuo! She’s only three years old! Please, I implore you!”

”Divine Doctor, it’s my fault! I have a foul mouth! Please, save Nuonuo! Please save her! If she dies, my daughter-in-law will tear me to pieces!” Fang Meijun pleaded.

”As I said, I dare not treat anyone from your family,” Ye Xiu stated indifferently.

His words left the old man and Fang Meijun stunned. Even the Ghost Doctor was puzzled, yet impressed.

”What do you mean, Divine Doctor?” Fang MeJJun asked.

”I’m Ye Xiu!” he declared.

”Ah...!” Fang Meijun screamed as if she had seen a ghost and staggered back several steps.

The old man’s expression turned incredibly grim.

”Master, why won’t you save Fang Meijun’s granddaughter?” the Ghost Doctor asked.

”Years ago, I cured Fang Meijun’s chronic kidney failure for free and even gave her 5,000 yuan. But after I got into trouble, she came to my clinic, caused a huge scene, and extorted 100,000 yuan from me. Afterward, she went around maliciously slandering me everywhere,” Ye Xiu explained.

Hearing this, the Ghost Doctor became enraged. He turned to the old couple and said coldly, ”Please take Nuonuo and leave Shenghe Hospital at once. You are not welcome here.”

”Help! Someone help!” Fang Meijun suddenly threw herself to the ground, rolling around and shouting, ”Everyone, come and look! The renowned Medicine King of Xuanse, Ye Xiu, is refusing to save a dying child! Come and judge for yourselves!”

The Ghost Doctor was dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe his eyes; he’d never imagined someone so utterly shameless could exist in this world.

SLAP!

The old man struck Fang Meijun across the face. ”Shut up! If you keep this up, you’ll be watching Nuonuo die with your own eyes!”

”If Nuonuo dies in Shenghe Hospital, Ye Xiu and the Ghost Doctor must pay compensation!” Fang Meijun cried.

”Nuonuo is still alive,” the old man roared. ”Just think about the consequences when our son and daughter-in-law find out that Nuonuo died because you angered Divine Doctor Ye!”

At that, Fang Meijun immediately stopped her crying and theatrics. The only person she truly feared was her daughter-in-law. That woman would actually beat her, and if she denied her food, she would truly go hungry.

If my daughter-in-law finds out I’m the reason Nuonuo died, won’t she chop me to pieces?

”Divine Doctor Ye, Divine Doctor Ye...” The thought of her daughter-in-law’s fury made Fang Meijun tremble. She scrambled and crawled over to Ye Xiu, kneeling and begging, ”Please, it was all my fault back then! I was a bastard, I was worthless, I wasn’t human! But Nuonuo is only three, she’s innocent! Please, save her! I’m begging you...”
