Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Disruption at the Auction

”We have no quarrel. Why do you want to kill me?” Ye Xiu asked. If the thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man was working with Zhang Hong, it would make sense. He had beaten up Zhang Hong and even lifted him by his collar, giving the old man a reason to want him dead. But the old man had just been sneering at Zhang Hong a moment ago, so they clearly weren’t allies. In that case, it was completely irrational for him to want Ye Xiu dead.

”Hmph, I don’t need a reason to kill you,” the thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man declared arrogantly. ”Hurry up. If you don’t kill Zhang Hong, I’ll have to take matters into my own hands and kill you.”

Ye Xiu was infuriated by the old man’s unreasonable bullying.

He let go of Zhang Hong and said coldly, ”I won’t kill him. Now you can kill me.”

Everyone in the coffee shop was stunned. No one had expected Ye Xiu to actually confront the thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man.

For a moment, the Martial Artists in the coffee shop silently cursed Ye Xiu for having a death wish. They all recognized the old man and knew that when he threatened to kill someone, he was being deadly serious.

That’s it! This kid is done for!

”You...” The thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man flew into a rage. He had only pressured Ye Xiu to kill Zhang Hong to regain some face. He never expected that under his threat, Ye Xiu would release Zhang Hong and openly defy him.

”Fine. Very well. Since you’re looking for death, I’ll grant your wish,” he said, rising to his feet and drawing his sword as he advanced on Ye Xiu.

Seeing this, the people in the coffee shop sighed inwardly. This kid is as good as dead!

”Mr. Ye?”

Just then, a surprised voice rang out.

At the sound of the voice, everyone in the coffee shop turned to look. The thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man also stopped and turned his head toward the entrance.

There, walking in, was Song Penghui, the Sect Leader of the Vajra Sect from Jin Ye City.

”Sect Leader Song?”

All the Martial Artists in the coffee shop stood to greet Song Penghui.

Song Penghui’s reputation in the Xuanse Ancient Martial Circle was immense. He was, after all, the foremost practitioner of Horizontal Kung Fu. His Eighth Grade Grandmaster-level defense was said to be unbreakable, even by a Great Grandmaster.

”What happened here?” Song Penghui asked after exchanging pleasantries with everyone.

”It’s nothing serious,” the thin-faced, monkey-cheeked old man said with a fawning smile, pointing at Ye Xiu. ”This young man provoked me, and I was just about to teach him a lesson.”

”You were going to teach him a lesson?” Song Penghui paused for a moment before roaring furiously, ”Cui Tianhao, it seems you’ve got a death wish! If you want to lay a hand on him, you’ll have to get through me first!”

”This...”

Cui Tianhao, the thin-faced old man, was stunned.

Zhang Hong was stunned.

Everyone in the coffee shop was stunned.

Song Penghui had reacted with such fury just from hearing that Cui Tianhao wanted to discipline Ye Xiu. It was obvious that he knew Ye Xiu, and their relationship was anything but shallow.

”Sect Leader Song, a misunderstanding! Hehe, this is all a misunderstanding. I didn’t know he was an associate of yours. A great man like you doesn’t hold a grudge against a lesser man. Please, forgive me this once,” Cui Tianhao said, breaking out into a cold sweat as he hastily apologized.

Song Penghui ignored him, instead turning to Ye Xiu to respectfully ask for his instructions. ”How should we deal with him?”

This scene dumbfounded everyone present.

The famous Sect Leader of the Vajra Sect, the number one practitioner of Horizontal Kung Fu in the Xuanse Ancient Martial Circle, was being so deferential to Ye Xiu.

Clearly, Ye Xiu’s background must be terrifying!

”Sir, I was wrong. I beg for your mercy, please spare my life,” Cui Tianhao pleaded in terror, dropping to his knees.

”Unreasonable bullies like you don’t deserve to live,” Ye Xiu said without expression. ”The King of Hell needs a groomsman for his wedding. Sect Leader Song, send him on his way.”

”Understood!”

Song Penghui nodded and lunged forward. He grabbed the kneeling Cui Tianhao by the back of his neck, and with a sickening SNAP, crushed his cervical vertebrae. Then, he dragged Cui Tianhao’s corpse out of the coffee shop.

It wasn’t until that moment that a collective gasp filled the coffee shop. Everyone turned to stare at Ye Xiu in shock.

At Ye Xiu’s command, Song Penghui had killed Cui Tianhao without the slightest hesitation. This made everyone burn with curiosity about Ye Xiu’s identity. It was clear he hadn’t requested it; he had commanded it.

”What are you trembling for?” Ye Xiu asked, kicking Zhang Hong, who was still sitting on the ground. ”Get out of Jin Ye City immediately. You are forbidden from attending the Marrow Cleansing Pill auction tonight. If I see you again, I’ll smash your damn head in.”

”Yes, yes, yes!” Zhang Hong scrambled to his feet and fled as if he’d been granted a royal pardon.

At that moment, Ye Xiu turned to the waitress, whose face had turned pale with fright, and asked with a smile, ”Do you still want that autograph?”

The waitress was still frozen in fear over Cui Tianhao’s death. As an ordinary person, she had never witnessed a public murder. But when she heard Ye Xiu’s question, the gruesome death was instantly pushed from her mind.

”Yes! Yes, I do!” she said excitedly.

Ye Xiu grinned. ”Check it out, yo.”

PFFT!

The waitress burst out laughing. With that laugh, her earlier fear vanished completely.

The other people in the coffee shop, however, felt their scalps tingle. He had just ordered a man’s death, and now he was joking with the waitress. Such mental fortitude could only mean that he was completely numb to killing.

My god! Who in the world is this kid?

As night fell, people began to trickle into the auction venue.

Of course, not just anyone could attend; a hefty deposit was required. The deposit for a major event like the Marrow Cleansing Pill auction was a sky-high 30,000,000. This steep price prevented many Martial Artists, Ancient Martial Families, and Sects from affording entry. They could only wait outside, looking for an opportunity to strike.

To avoid being robbed after winning the Marrow Cleansing Pill, everyone attending wore hats, masks, and sunglasses.

”Brother Shui, is that you?” a girl wearing a baseball cap, a mask, and sunglasses asked tentatively from the seat next to Ye Xiu after he sat down.

From her voice, Ye Xiu knew immediately who it was.

Kuroki Suzu! ”Brother Shui”? Seriously?

”It’s me,” Ye Xiu nodded.

”What are you doing here at the auction? Do you want the Marrow Cleansing Pill too?” Kuroki Suzu asked.

”Yeah,” Ye Xiu nodded.

”Then I’m afraid you’ve come for nothing. I’m determined to win the Marrow Cleansing Pill,” Kuroki Suzu stated.

”An auction is a battle of wealth, and everyone who comes here is loaded. What makes you so certain you’ll win?” Ye Xiu asked.

”The total amount of cash everyone else here brought with them doesn’t add up to what I have,” Kuroki Suzu said with absolute confidence.

Ye Xiu chuckled. Pal, you’re celebrating a little too early!

Just then, the auctioneer on stage was already introducing the Marrow Cleansing Pill.

After the introduction, the auctioneer raised his voice, ”The Marrow Cleansing Pill! Starting bid of 5,000,000 Xuanse Currency, with a minimum bid increment of 1,000,000!”

The words had barely left his mouth when people eagerly prepared to shout their bids.

At this moment, Ye Xiu suddenly raised paddle number 19 and yelled, ”One billion!”

The people who were just opening their mouths to shout a bid nearly choked. They all spun around to glare at Ye Xiu with fury.

Bids at an auction were supposed to increase incrementally. For Ye Xiu to jack up the price from a starting bid of 5,000,000 to such a high number right away was pure sabotage.

”Are you insane? Why did you raise the price so much all at once?” Kuroki Suzu demanded angrily.

”Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. I’m helping you,” Ye Xiu said with utter conviction. ”Look, now that I’ve bid one billion, no one else will dare to raise the price. All you have to do is add another million, and the Marrow Cleansing Pill is yours.”
