Yandere Stream

The sentence remained on the page.

Once upon a time, four people decided they wanted to live.

Eden stared at it for a long time. He had written thousands of beginnings before. Some had started with blood, others with death, prophecy, monsters, broken worlds, impossible powers, or some grand revelation that was supposed to change everything. This sentence was different. It was simple. Almost painfully simple. There was no prophecy, no chosen one, no ancient evil waiting beneath the world. Just four people who wanted to live.

Slowly, Eden lowered the pen.

”That’s it?”

Cael, still standing beneath the tree, smiled.

”That depends.”

”On what?”

”Whether you actually mean it.”

Eden looked at him.

”I do.”

”Then put the pen down.”

Eden frowned.

”Why?”

”Because if you keep writing, you’re going to start controlling things again.”

Eden looked at the notebook resting in his hands. Cael was right. He had spent his entire existence trying to make reality behave, trying to make people stay, trying to stop endings, trying to fix every mistake he encountered. Maybe the greatest thing he could do was stop.

He closed the notebook.

Nothing happened.

The world didn’t collapse. No voice echoed from the sky. No hidden force protested his decision. The tree continued swaying gently in the wind. Luna smiled. Adrian lowered himself into the grass. Finn immediately dropped down beside him. For several quiet seconds, they simply existed.

Then Finn looked toward Eden.

”So what now?”

Eden shrugged.

”I don’t know.”

Finn laughed.

”Of course.”

Adrian glanced toward the house.

”Maybe we should go inside.”

Luna nodded.

”I’m hungry.”

Eden looked at her.

”You’re always hungry.”

She smiled.

”You’re always dramatic.”

”Fair.”

Together they walked toward the house. Halfway there, Eden stopped and glanced back over his shoulder. The notebook remained beneath the tree exactly where he had left it. Part of him expected something to happen. Some sign. Some warning. Some final twist. Nothing did.

He smiled and followed the others.

The house felt different inside. Not because anything had physically changed. The furniture was the same. The walls were the same. The rooms were the same. What had changed was the feeling. There was no longer anything hidden. No secrets lurking behind doors. No mysteries waiting in shadows. The kitchen smelled like food. Warm light filled the room. Four plates sat neatly arranged on the table.

Nobody remembered preparing them.

Finn stared at the food suspiciously.

”Should we be concerned?”

Adrian picked up a fork.

”Probably.”

He took a bite.

Everyone watched.

Adrian swallowed.

”It’s good.”

Finn immediately sat down.

”Then I’m not concerned.”

Luna laughed as she joined him. Eden sat across from them, studying the scene in silence. For the first time in his life, he wasn’t waiting for something terrible to happen. Strangely, that felt more frightening than any monster he had ever faced.

He looked around the table.

Adrian was already complaining about how uncomfortable the chair was.

Finn was eating far too quickly.

Luna was stealing food from his plate whenever he looked away.

It was ordinary.

Ridiculous.

Perfect.

A smile appeared on Eden’s face.

Then the front door opened.

Everyone froze.

A woman stepped inside.

Eden’s mother.

She looked exactly as he remembered her, except she wasn’t crying. She wasn’t afraid. She simply stood there looking at the four of them before smiling warmly.

”You’re late.”

Eden couldn’t breathe.

”Mom?”

She walked toward him.

He stood so fast that his chair crashed backward onto the floor.

Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around him.

Eden froze.

Then he hugged her back.

Hard.

He couldn’t remember the last time he had held her. Maybe there had never been a version of reality where he was allowed to.

She leaned close and whispered into his ear.

”You finally stopped running.”

Eden closed his eyes.

”I missed you.”

”I know.”

When he finally pulled away, his voice shook.

”Are you real?”

She smiled.

”Does it matter?”

Eden stared at her.

She reached up and gently touched his cheek.

”You spent so long trying to figure out what was real that you forgot something important.”

”What?”

”Sometimes being real isn’t the same thing as being alive.”

Eden frowned.

His mother simply glanced toward the table.

”Go eat.”

He laughed through tears.

”Yes, Mom.”

She smiled and disappeared into the kitchen.

Later that night, everyone else fell asleep.

Eden couldn’t.

He stood outside beneath the tree, staring up at the moon. The air was cool and the night was quiet. For once, there was no voice whispering inside his head. No Reader. No Author. No countdown. No pages changing by themselves.

He looked toward the house.

Luna was asleep near the window.

Adrian and Finn were quietly arguing over who had stolen the blanket.

Eden smiled.

Then he noticed something in the grass.

A footprint.

Not his.

Not Luna’s.

Not Adrian’s.

Not Finn’s.

A footprint leading away from the house.

Eden followed it.

The trail continued across the yard before stopping at the edge of the forest. Another footprint waited there. Then another. Someone had passed through recently.

Eden stared into the darkness.

”Who’s there?”

No answer came.

He waited.

Then a voice drifted from the trees.

”You really thought you were finished?”

Eden’s expression hardened immediately.

The voice was unfamiliar.

Not the Reader.

Not Elias.

Not Cael.

Not anyone he had ever met.

A figure stepped out from the darkness.

A young woman.

Maybe twenty years old.

Long black hair.

Pale skin.

A scar running down one side of her face.

She stopped several feet away.

Eden stared at her.

”Who are you?”

She smiled.

”Someone you forgot.”

Eden sighed.

”Everyone keeps saying that.”

”I know.”

She reached into her coat.

Eden tensed.

Instead of a weapon, she pulled out a photograph.

She held it toward him.

Eden accepted it.

The moment he looked down, his blood ran cold.

The photograph showed five children standing beneath the tree.

Eden.

Adrian.

Finn.

Luna.

And a fifth child.

A girl standing between Eden and Luna.

Eden stared at the image.

”I don’t remember her.”

The woman smiled.

”That was the point.”

He continued studying the photograph. There was something familiar about the girl. Not her face.

Her eyes.

He had seen those eyes before.

In the Reader.

In the Archive.

In memories older than memory.

Slowly, he looked back up.

”Who is she?”

The woman’s answer came quietly.

”Her name is Mira.”

Eden’s heart skipped a beat.

”Mira.”

Suddenly the photograph changed.

The fifth child vanished.

Then Luna disappeared.

Then Finn.

Then Adrian.

Only Eden remained.

He looked up sharply.

”What did you do?”

”I didn’t do anything.”

The woman smiled.

”You did.”

Eden turned the photograph over.

Words were appearing on the back.

YOU WROTE FOUR.

Another sentence formed beneath it.

THERE WERE FIVE.

His stomach tightened.

”Why don’t I remember her?”

The woman glanced toward the house.

”Because Luna asked you to forget.”

Eden froze.

”No.”

”Yes.”

”Why?”

The woman’s smile never faded.

”Because Mira was the first person you ever loved.”

Eden’s expression went blank.

”That isn’t possible.”

”It is.”

”And Luna?”

The woman shrugged.

”Luna came second.”

Eden stared at her.

She stepped closer.

”And that’s why she erased Mira.”

The world seemed to stop.

Eden’s fingers tightened around the photograph.

”Why would Luna do that?”

The woman looked toward the sleeping house.

”Because she knew what Mira would become.”

”What?”

The woman’s smile widened.

”The first person who could rewrite you without your permission.”

A cold sensation spread through Eden’s body.

Slowly, he turned back toward the house.

Luna was still visible through the window.

Peaceful.

Asleep.

Innocent.

Yet for the first time, he wasn’t sure.

The woman began walking away.

”Wait.”

She stopped.

”Where are you going?”

”To find Mira.”

Eden stepped forward.

”Where is she?”

The woman glanced over her shoulder.

”That’s the problem.”

”What?”

”She isn’t missing.”

Eden frowned.

”Then where is she?”

The woman smiled.

”She’s been here the entire time.”

Slowly, Eden turned toward the house.

The lights were on.

Luna was standing in the doorway.

Awake.

Watching him.

Her face was completely expressionless.

Eden stared at her.

”Luna?”

She didn’t answer.

Behind him, the woman whispered softly.

”Ask her.”

Eden swallowed.

”Ask her what?”

The woman smiled.

”Why she remembers Mira.”

Eden looked back at Luna.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then Luna finally opened her mouth.

Her voice was quiet.

”Eden...”

He stared at her.

”Who is Mira?”

Tears filled Luna’s eyes.

For a moment she couldn’t speak.

Then, barely above a whisper, she answered.

”My sister.”

Eden’s heart stopped.

And behind Luna, standing in the doorway’s shadow, was someone else.

A girl with long black hair.

The same girl from the photograph.

She smiled at him.

”Hello, Eden.”

Luna closed her eyes.

”Mira...”

Mira’s smile widened.

”I told you he’d remember eventually.”
