Yandere Stream

The letter remained on the page.

F.

Kai stared at it as the white room fell into an impossible silence. The distant scratching of the pen seemed louder than thunder, louder than the trains, louder than the countless stories that had led him here. For some reason, that single letter frightened him more than anything else. It terrified him more than the Author, more than the Choice Line, more than the station, the manifest, or the impossible railways stretching beyond reality. He knew that letter. He knew the name it belonged to, and he had spent years convincing himself it belonged to someone who no longer existed.

Adrian noticed the change in his expression. ”Kai?”

Kai didn’t answer. The pen moved again, forming a second letter. Then another. Slowly, patiently, the name completed itself.

FINN.

Kai’s stomach dropped. The stranger standing beyond the cracked doorway slowly closed his eyes. Adrian stared at the page while a cold weight settled inside Kai’s chest.

”No,” he whispered. ”That’s impossible.”

He stepped closer to the desk, but the name remained unchanged.

Finn.

A name he had mourned. A name he had searched for. A name he had watched disappear from memory.

He looked toward the stranger. ”You said Finn was forgotten.”

The stranger opened his eyes. ”I said his name was forgotten. That’s not the same thing.”

Kai pointed at the page. ”Then where is he?”

The stranger didn’t answer. Adrian looked between them.

”Who is Finn?”

Kai swallowed. The answer felt heavier than it should have. ”Someone I thought I knew.”

The stranger shook his head. ”Someone you still know.”

Those words settled heavily between them. Then the pen lifted. For the first time since they had entered the room, it stopped writing. Instead, it rolled across the desk in a slow, deliberate motion and came to rest directly in front of Adrian.

Everyone stared.

Adrian looked down at it, then at Kai. ”What does it want me to do?”

Kai shook his head. ”I don’t know.”

For once, it was the truth.

Adrian hesitated before reaching forward. The moment his fingers touched the pen, the white room vanished.

Kai found himself standing beneath towering trees. Sunlight streamed through green leaves high overhead while a warm breeze carried the scent of earth and rain. Birds called somewhere in the distance. For a brief moment, everything felt painfully normal. There were no trains, no endless stations, no impossible pages. There was only a forest.

Adrian stood beside him, equally confused.

Before either of them could speak, a voice called from ahead.

”You’re late.”

Kai turned and saw a young man sitting beneath an enormous tree. Dark hair framed tired eyes, and a familiar crooked smile rested on his face. An old book lay open in his hands.

Kai recognized him instantly.

”Finn.”

The young man looked up. ”Finally.”

Kai stared, unable to believe what he was seeing. ”You’re alive.”

Finn laughed softly. ”That’s a complicated question.”

”You disappeared.”

”I know.”

”You were erased.”

”I know.”

”You were forgotten.”

A shadow crossed Finn’s smile. ”That too.”

Kai stepped closer. ”Then how are you here?”

Finn closed his book and rose to his feet. ”Because you remembered me.”

Kai frowned. ”That’s enough?”

”Sometimes.”

The answer was simple, almost too simple, yet Kai somehow knew it was true.

Finn looked exactly as he remembered, but there was something different about him. Something older hid behind his eyes, something exhausted, like a man carrying a burden for far too long.

”I’ve been trying to come back,” Finn admitted.

”Back from where?”

Finn glanced toward the forest. ”The beginning.”

Adrian stepped forward. ”Why?”

Finn turned toward him and studied him for several seconds before smiling.

”You must be Adrian.”

Adrian nodded. ”How do you know me?”

Finn looked toward Kai. ”Because I was there when he wrote your first line.”

Kai froze.

”You were what?”

Finn nodded. ”I watched it happen.”

”Then why didn’t you stop me?”

Finn’s expression softened. ”Because you didn’t do anything wrong.”

Kai stared at him. ”I abandoned him.”

”No,” Finn replied immediately. ”You were forced to leave.”

Kai felt his pulse quicken. ”By who?”

Finn’s gaze darkened.

”The same thing that’s trying to force a choice now.”

”The Author.”

Finn nodded. ”Yes.”

”But you said the Author wasn’t a person.”

”It isn’t.”

Finn looked upward. ”It’s a title.”

”A title?”

”For whoever holds the pen.”

The forest instantly fell silent. The birds stopped singing. The wind vanished. Even the sunlight seemed frozen in place.

A terrible realization began forming in Kai’s mind.

”Who has it?”

Finn’s smile became sad. ”You already know.”

”No.”

”Yes.”

”Don’t do this.”

”You’ve known for a very long time.”

Kai shook his head. ”I don’t.”

Finn stepped closer, lowering his voice almost to a whisper.

”You just forgot.”

The forest shattered.

Kai was suddenly back in the white room. The transition was so abrupt that his knees nearly buckled. The desk stood where it always had, the page remained on its surface, and the stranger stood near the doorway.

Adrian was holding the pen.

Something had changed.

The stranger wasn’t looking at Kai anymore. His entire attention was fixed on Adrian.

”Give me the pen.”

Adrian didn’t move. ”No.”

For the first time since they had met him, the stranger’s expression hardened.

”You don’t understand what you’re holding.”

”Maybe not,” Adrian replied, glancing toward Kai. ”But I understand that you want it.”

The stranger took a step forward, and the room trembled.

”Give it to me.”

”No.”

Adrian tightened his grip.

”Adrian.”

”No.”

The walls shook harder. Cracks spread through the white space like fractures in glass.

The stranger stopped moving.

”That pen doesn’t belong to you.”

Adrian’s faint smile returned. ”Neither did I.”

Absolute silence followed.

The stranger stared at him. Kai stared at him. Even the room itself seemed to pause.

Adrian slowly raised the pen.

”You spent so long telling everyone that characters don’t own their stories. Maybe it’s time someone proves you wrong.”

For the first time, the stranger looked afraid. Not concerned. Not cautious. Afraid.

”Adrian,” he whispered. ”Put it down.”

Adrian didn’t.

”Why?”

”Because you don’t understand what happens if you write with it.”

”Then explain it.”

The stranger looked toward Kai before returning his gaze to Adrian.

”If you write your own story, you become responsible for everything that follows.”

Adrian considered that for a moment before nodding.

”Good.”

The stranger blinked. ”Good?”

”Yes.”

Adrian lowered his eyes to the blank page. For the first time since Kai had met him, there was no uncertainty in his voice. No confusion. No fear. Only conviction.

”I’ve spent my entire existence being told that nothing was my fault because none of it was my choice.”

He looked toward Kai.

”I’m tired of that.”

Kai felt something shift inside him. Adrian didn’t want freedom. Freedom had always been easy. What he wanted was responsibility—the willingness to accept consequences and own what came next.

That was different.

Adrian lowered the pen and wrote a single sentence.

I choose to continue.

The moment the words appeared, the white room exploded into light.

Kai saw everything.

The station. The trains. The forest. The little girl. Finn. The Witness. The pages. Millions upon millions of stories stretching endlessly in every direction. Entire worlds unfolded like books while entire universes turned their pages.

At the center of it all stood a desk.

Someone sat behind it.

A single hand rested upon a pen.

Kai couldn’t see the face at first, but he recognized the silhouette immediately. The posture. The shape of the shoulders. The way the fingers curled around the pen.

His stomach dropped.

”Finn...”

A voice answered beside him.

”No.”

Kai turned. Finn stood nearby, tears streaming down his face—not from sadness, but from fear.

”That’s not Finn.”

The stranger’s voice echoed across the infinite expanse.

”That’s the Author.”

The figure slowly lifted its head.

For the first time, Kai saw the face.

His own.

Older.

Colder.

Exhausted beyond comprehension.

The older Kai looked directly at him and smiled.

”I wondered how long it would take you.”

Kai couldn’t speak.

The older version of himself lifted the pen.

”You’ve forgotten everything again.”

His gaze shifted toward Adrian.

”But this time...”

The smile vanished.

”...you brought him with you.”

The page beneath his hand darkened as ink spread across it like a shadow swallowing light. Then a final sentence appeared.

NOW WE CAN BEGIN THE REAL STORY.
