Yandere Stream

Kai stepped through the doorway and immediately felt warmth against his skin.

Not the artificial warmth of station lights or the strange comfort that seemed to cling to impossible places. This was sunlight. Real sunlight. It settled across his face and shoulders with a familiarity so ordinary that it almost hurt.

For several seconds, he simply stood there.

Nothing chased him.

Nothing screamed.

No forgotten god waited at the edge of reality.

The world did not crack apart beneath his feet.

There was only summer.

A gentle breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass across the neighborhood. Somewhere in the distance, a lawn mower droned lazily, interrupted now and then by barking dogs and the laughter of children playing on another street. Birds hopped between the branches of a large oak tree that dominated the front yard, scattering tiny shadows across the grass below.

Kai slowly turned in a circle.

The neighborhood looked exactly the way he remembered it.

The white house with peeling paint near the porch.

The crooked red mailbox leaning slightly to one side.

The broken porch light that nobody ever seemed to fix.

The enormous tree where he had spent countless afternoons sitting beneath its shade.

Everything was exactly the same.

Yet somehow it felt more real than any memory should.

His gaze dropped to his own hands.

For a moment, he didn’t understand what he was seeing.

His fingers looked younger.

Smaller.

The scars he had collected over the years were gone.

The faint lines around his knuckles had vanished.

Confused, he hurried toward a nearby window and stared at his reflection.

A teenager stared back.

Sixteen years old.

Kai froze.

”What the hell?”

Laughter answered him.

He turned to find Adrian sitting beneath the oak tree.

Or rather, a younger version of Adrian.

Gone was the exhausted young man burdened by hundreds of discarded lives. Gone were the shadows that seemed to follow him through every timeline. This Adrian looked normal. Sixteen years old. Relaxed. Human.

He sat with his back against the trunk, holding a worn notebook in his lap.

Kai walked toward him slowly.

”You remember?”

Adrian looked up and smiled.

”Everything.”

”Even this?”

”Especially this.”

Kai lowered himself onto the grass.

His eyes wandered toward the house.

”Where’s Luna?”

Instead of answering, Adrian pointed across the yard.

Kai followed the gesture.

A small figure was running toward them.

She couldn’t have been older than ten.

Her dark hair bounced wildly behind her as she crossed the lawn, holding something tightly against her chest. When she reached the tree, she stopped in front of them and placed her hands on her hips in exaggerated annoyance.

”You two are supposed to be helping.”

Kai stared.

The younger Luna looked exactly the way his memories described her.

The same eyes.

The same stubborn expression.

The same tendency to act as though she were somehow older than everyone around her.

Adrian grinned.

”Helping with what?”

Without answering, she held up what she had been carrying.

A notebook.

Kai’s breath caught.

He recognized it immediately.

His first notebook.

The very first one.

The notebook that should have been gone forever.

Luna dropped onto the grass beside them.

”Your mom said you have to finish the story today.”

Kai blinked.

”Today?”

She nodded firmly.

”Today.”

For some reason, those simple words sent a chill through him.

He reached out and accepted the notebook.

It felt heavier than it should have.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

Like holding a memory that had spent years waiting to be found.

Slowly, he opened it.

The first page was blank.

Completely blank.

There wasn’t a title.

There wasn’t a name.

There wasn’t even a stray pencil mark.

Just empty white paper.

Kai stared at it for a long time.

Eventually Adrian leaned closer.

”What are you waiting for?”

Kai swallowed.

”I don’t know.”

Luna snorted.

”That’s a lie.”

Kai looked at her.

”What?”

”You always know.”

”No, I don’t.”

She pointed at the notebook.

”You just spend forever pretending you don’t.”

Adrian laughed.

Kai groaned.

”Both of you are annoying.”

”You’re the one who made us.”

The words slipped from Adrian’s mouth so casually that Kai almost missed them.

He frowned.

”I didn’t make anybody.”

Adrian simply pointed toward the blank page.

”You did.”

Kai looked down again.

For the first time, understanding began to settle into place.

This wasn’t the past.

Not really.

The Reader hadn’t sent them backward through time.

It had brought them somewhere far stranger.

This was possibility.

The place before the first sentence.

The moment before a story existed.

For so long, Kai had been trapped inside endings. Every choice had been shaped by consequences, every path defined by what came before it. Even when he rewrote events, he was still reacting to something that already existed.

But this?

This was different.

This was a beginning.

A genuine beginning.

No fate.

No predetermined outcome.

No cycle waiting to repeat itself.

Only a blank page.

Kai looked at Adrian.

”If I write something...”

Adrian nodded.

”I know.”

”You could change.”

”I know.”

”You might become someone completely different.”

”I know.”

”You might hate me.”

A small smile appeared on Adrian’s face.

”You’ve worried about that for a very long time.”

Kai lowered his eyes.

”I don’t want to decide your life anymore.”

For the first time, Adrian’s expression softened completely.

”Then don’t.”

Kai turned toward Luna.

”And you?”

She shrugged.

”I’ll make my own decisions.”

A laugh escaped him.

”That sounds dangerous.”

”It probably is.”

The three of them sat quietly beneath the tree.

Leaves rustled overhead.

The summer wind moved lazily through the branches.

For the first time in what felt like forever, nobody was rushing him.

Nobody was demanding an answer.

Nobody was dying.

Nobody was disappearing.

It was just a notebook.

A pencil.

And a blank page.

Slowly, Kai placed the tip of the pencil against the paper.

His hand trembled.

Then he began to write.

Not about heroes.

Not about destiny.

Not about saving worlds.

He didn’t write Adrian’s death.

He didn’t write Luna’s future.

He didn’t write a prophecy.

Instead, he wrote the simplest truth he could find.

There were three children sitting beneath a tree who had no idea what their lives would become.

He paused.

Adrian leaned over his shoulder.

A smile appeared.

”That’s a good start.”

Kai continued.

They didn’t know what they would gain.

They didn’t know what they would lose.

They didn’t know who they would become.

They didn’t know how many mistakes they would make.

The pencil stopped again.

Then, after a moment, he added one final sentence.

And for once, nobody was going to choose their future for them.

The wind shifted.

Kai waited.

Nothing happened.

No divine voice answered him.

No supernatural force reacted.

The world remained exactly as it was.

Grass swayed.

Birds chirped.

Sunlight filtered through leaves.

Luna read over his shoulder.

”I like it.”

Kai smiled.

Then the notebook snapped shut.

All three of them jumped.

A shadow swept across the lawn.

Slowly, Kai lifted his head.

The sky remained bright blue.

Yet words were appearing across it.

Not written in ink.

Not formed from clouds.

The sunlight itself was changing shape.

THE STORY HAS CHANGED.

Adrian stood immediately.

”That can’t be good.”

”Probably not.”

The message vanished.

Another appeared.

THE PREVIOUS ENDING HAS BEEN REJECTED.

Kai stared at those words.

He knew exactly what they meant.

Nine hundred and thirteen lives.

Nine hundred and thirteen attempts.

Nine hundred and thirteen versions of Adrian created because Kai couldn’t accept losing him.

He looked toward his friend.

”No more.”

Adrian nodded.

”No more.”

The sky changed again.

BUT EVERY CHANGE HAS A COST.

The world shuddered.

The sunlight disappeared.

Silence swallowed the neighborhood.

The house began fading first.

Then the mailbox.

Then the street.

The tree itself started becoming transparent.

Luna grabbed Kai’s arm.

”What’s happening?”

Kai looked around slowly.

The answer came instinctively.

”The old story is ending.”

Adrian watched the dissolving world.

”Then we shouldn’t stay.”

”Go where?”

Adrian pointed toward the horizon.

A road had appeared there.

It stretched through darkness that seemed endless, yet tiny lights lined its edges like distant stars.

A path.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Kai looked at the notebook one last time.

Then he looked at his friends.

”Together?”

Adrian smiled.

”Together.”

Luna rolled her eyes.

”Obviously.”

They started walking.

One step.

Then another.

Behind them, the old world vanished completely.

The station disappeared.

The Reader disappeared.

The endless cycles disappeared.

Everything that had come before faded into silence.

Only the road remained.

They walked for what felt like hours.

Maybe minutes.

Time no longer seemed important.

Eventually Luna broke the silence.

”So...”

Kai glanced toward her.

”What?”

She pointed between the three of them.

”Are we still characters?”

Kai thought about the question carefully.

Then he shook his head.

”No.”

Adrian looked over.

”Then what are we?”

Kai smiled.

For once, the answer didn’t frighten him.

”I don’t know.”

Luna laughed.

”That’s still your favorite answer.”

”Yeah.”

Adrian looked toward the road stretching endlessly ahead.

Then he smiled too.

”Maybe that’s enough.”

The three of them continued forward together.

There was no destination waiting for them.

No prophecy.

No ending already written.

Only possibility.

Far behind them, forgotten by almost everyone, a single page remained.

The page Kai had written beneath the tree.

The words shifted slowly.

Not because someone commanded them.

Not because an author rewrote them.

Because the story had learned how to move forward on its own.

A new sentence appeared at the bottom of the page.

Somewhere beyond the road, someone was still waiting.

A name slowly formed beneath it.

Finn.

Then another line appeared.

He had been waiting for a very long time.

And for the first time since being forgotten, he smiled when he saw them coming.
