Yandere Stream

For several long seconds, no one spoke. Black ash drifted through the air where the torn manifest had existed only moments ago. Instead of settling onto the platform, each tiny fleck dissolved into nothing before it could touch the ground, as though the station itself refused to preserve even the memory of the page. Kai slowly lifted his gaze to the conductor. ”You destroyed it.”

”I did.”

”You looked afraid.”

The conductor met his eyes without hesitation. ”I was.”

The simple admission carried more weight than any elaborate explanation ever could. Beside Kai, Daniel let out a quiet breath and rubbed the back of his neck. ”I’ve officially decided that if he’s scared, then we should all be terrified.” No one argued.

Kai turned toward the first train. Its open door remained bathed in warm amber light. It didn’t pressure anyone, didn’t call out, and didn’t promise anything. It simply waited. When he looked toward the second train, he felt a chill run down his spine. The pale locomotive stood motionless across the tracks, its endless line of carriages disappearing into darkness. Every time Kai thought he had found the final carriage, another seemed to emerge from the shadows beyond it. The train wasn’t actually growing longer; his eyes simply couldn’t determine where it ended.

The stranger noticed him staring. ”Don’t.”

Kai looked back. ”Why?”

”You’ll start counting.”

”So?”

”You won’t stop.”

Daniel immediately looked away. ”I wasn’t even counting, and somehow that sounded like a terrible idea.”

The conductor stepped between Kai and the second train. ”Enough.” The single word echoed through the station with quiet authority. The stranger inclined his head. ”As you wish.”

”You’ve made your point.”

”I have.”

”Then leave.”

A faint smile touched the stranger’s lips. ”If only it were that simple.”

The station lights dimmed again, and this time Kai noticed something strange about the shadows. The shadows cast by the first train stretched toward the second, while those cast by the second reached toward the first. They met halfway across the tracks but never crossed the invisible boundary separating them. It was like watching two tides collide without mixing.

”What is this place?” Kai asked.

Neither man answered immediately. Eventually, the conductor looked down the endless rails and said, ”It is a crossing.”

”A crossing between what?”

”Between stories.”

Kai shook his head. ”I don’t mean that.”

The conductor smiled faintly. ”I know. But that’s still the answer.”

Luna stepped beside him, her attention fixed not on the trains but on the platform itself. ”Kai.”

”Hm?”

”Look at the benches.”

He followed her gaze. Several old wooden benches lined Platform Zero. Most were empty. One wasn’t.

An elderly woman sat quietly near the far end of the platform, dressed in a dark blue coat and holding a small leather suitcase on her lap. Kai was certain she hadn’t been there a moment ago. She simply existed now, as though she had always belonged there.

Daniel noticed her next. ”Was she here?”

Noah slowly shook his head. ”No.”

The woman looked neither frightened nor confused. She sat patiently, occasionally glancing toward the first train as if waiting for someone to announce boarding. Kai approached her cautiously.

”Excuse me.”

She looked up and smiled warmly. ”Oh. I thought I was alone.”

”Did you just arrive?”

She looked puzzled. ”I’ve been waiting.”

”For how long?”

She considered the question. ”I’m not sure. I think... since Tuesday.”

Daniel’s voice drifted from behind Kai. ”It’s Saturday.”

The woman continued as though she hadn’t heard him. ”My grandson said he’d meet me here. He always keeps his promises.”

Kai felt his chest tighten. ”When was that?”

”Oh...” She adjusted her grip on the suitcase. ”About thirty years ago.”

Silence settled over the platform.

The conductor approached quietly and knelt beside her. ”Mrs. Holloway.”

Her face brightened immediately. ”There you are.”

”I’m terribly sorry,” he said, removing his cap. ”The delay was longer than expected.”

She laughed softly. ”Don’t apologize. I’ve had plenty of time to rest.”

”I imagine you have.”

She glanced toward the waiting train. ”Has David arrived yet?”

The conductor’s eyes softened. ”He has.”

Her smile widened. ”I knew he wouldn’t forget me.”

Kai looked toward the conductor. ”Who’s David?”

”Her grandson,” the conductor replied quietly. ”He passed away. Grew old. Raised a family. Lived a full life.” He helped the woman gently to her feet. ”He asked me to apologize.”

She chuckled. ”He was always late.”

Together, they walked toward the open carriage. Just before boarding, Mrs. Holloway turned back toward Kai. Her eyes held no mystery, no fear, and no regret. There was only gratitude.

”Young man.”

”Yes?”

”Don’t spend so much time worrying about endings.” She smiled gently. ”You’ll miss the people walking beside you.”

Then she stepped aboard. The door closed behind her with a soft click. There was no flash of light, no dramatic farewell, only a quiet departure. Kai remained standing there long after she disappeared from sight.

The stranger watched from beside his own train. ”That’s why his railway still exists.”

Kai turned toward him. ”What do you mean?”

”He doesn’t carry stories.” The stranger’s gaze drifted toward the conductor. ”He carries people.”

The conductor pretended not to hear, though Kai caught the faintest smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

A deep metallic chime suddenly echoed from somewhere beneath the station. It didn’t come from either train. It came from the tracks themselves. Once. Twice. Three times.

The conductor’s expression changed instantly. His pocket watch snapped open, and he stared at it.

”No.”

Kai stepped closer. ”What is it?”

The old man slowly closed the watch. Though his movements remained precise, tension showed clearly in his hands. He looked first at the warm train, then at the pale one, and finally at Adrian.

”The station...” he said quietly, ”has accepted him.”

Adrian frowned. ”What does that mean?”

The conductor didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

At that exact moment, a third set of tracks began rising from beneath Platform Zero. Steel emerged through solid stone without breaking it, unfolding like something ancient awakening after centuries of sleep. Where there had been two railways, there were now three.

The new line stood completely empty.

Waiting.

The stranger’s smile vanished. The conductor’s face went pale. For the first time that night, both men spoke at exactly the same moment.

”That should be impossible.”
