Yandere Stream

Kai couldn’t answer.

The question wasn’t complicated. Adrian hadn’t asked what happened. He hadn’t asked why. He hadn’t even blamed him. He had simply asked whether Kai was the person who had left him unfinished, and somehow that was worse.

The station had gone completely still around them. Broken lights hung above the platform like dead stars, throwing only occasional sparks across the darkness. The two trains remained motionless on either side of the Choice Line, their engines silent for the first time since arriving.

Kai looked at Adrian.

The young man wasn’t angry.

Not yet.

He looked hurt.

Confused.

Like someone who had spent his entire existence searching for an explanation and had finally found one he wished he hadn’t.

Kai swallowed hard.

”Yes.”

The word barely escaped his mouth.

Adrian lowered his gaze.

Kai forced himself to continue. ”I think I was.”

Adrian looked back up. ”You think?”

”I don’t remember everything.”

”But I remember enough.”

Kai glanced toward the white doorway that had appeared earlier. He remembered the desk. The pages. The unfinished character. Himself sitting across from the stranger.

”I remember writing something.”

”What?”

Kai hesitated.

Then quietly answered, ”That you deserved a chance.”

Adrian stared at him.

”That’s all?”

”I don’t know.”

Kai shook his head.

”I don’t remember what happened afterward. Maybe I stopped. Maybe I forgot. Maybe...” His voice weakened. ”Maybe I got bored.”

Adrian flinched.

Kai immediately regretted saying it.

”No. That’s not what I meant.”

”But it could be.”

Adrian’s voice remained calm.

”Couldn’t it?”

Kai didn’t answer.

Adrian laughed once, though there was no humor in it.

”You made me. You gave me a chance. Then you walked away.”

He looked toward the glowing Choice Line.

”Do you know what it’s like to spend your entire existence feeling like something is missing?”

Kai remained silent.

”Every time I tried to remember my childhood, there was nothing. Every time I wondered where I came from, there was nothing. I kept thinking there had to be an answer.”

His smile became bitter.

”I thought maybe I was broken. Maybe everyone else had forgotten me. Maybe I had done something terrible.”

His eyes returned to Kai.

”But the truth is... I was never given a chance to begin.”

The words cut deeper than any accusation could have.

Kai lowered his head.

”I’m sorry.”

Adrian stared at him.

”Are you?”

”Yes.”

”Because you feel guilty?”

Kai shook his head.

”Because I hurt you.”

Something shifted in Adrian’s expression.

That answer mattered.

Just not enough.

”You can’t fix everything by saying you’re sorry.”

”I know.”

”Then what are you going to do?”

Kai looked toward the rails.

The glowing words had vanished. Only the tracks remained.

”I don’t know.”

Adrian nodded slowly.

”At least that’s honest.”

The stranger stepped forward.

”That’s why the Author chose you.”

Kai looked at him.

”Because I created Adrian?”

”No.”

”Because you abandoned him.”

Kai let out a humorless laugh.

”That’s not exactly comforting.”

”It isn’t supposed to be.”

The stranger looked toward Adrian.

”The Author doesn’t care about guilt. It cares about unfinished things.”

His gaze drifted toward the Choice Line.

”An unfinished story creates tension. An unfinished character creates possibility.”

”And possibility...” He paused. ”...is the most dangerous thing in existence.”

Kai frowned.

”Why?”

”Because possibility means the ending hasn’t been decided.”

The conductor finally spoke.

”Enough.”

Everyone turned.

The old man walked slowly toward the center of the platform. His expression had returned to its usual calm, but there was something new behind his eyes.

Resolve.

”The Author has made its position clear.”

He looked directly at Kai.

”It wants you to finish what you started.”

Kai nodded.

”Then I’ll do it.”

The conductor shook his head.

”No.”

Kai blinked.

”What?”

”You misunderstand.”

The old man turned toward Adrian.

”The Author doesn’t want you to finish his story.”

Then he looked toward the dark tunnel.

”It wants you to finish it for him.”

Silence.

Kai understood immediately.

If he wrote Adrian’s ending, Adrian would never truly become his own person. He would remain a character. A creation. A thing built only to serve a conclusion.

Kai looked at Adrian.

The young man seemed to understand too.

”So even if you save me...” Adrian whispered. ”I’d still belong to you.”

Kai shook his head.

”No.”

Adrian met his gaze.

”I don’t want that.”

Kai stepped closer.

”You shouldn’t.”

”Then what am I supposed to do?”

Kai looked toward the blank rails.

”I don’t know.”

A faint smile touched his face.

”But maybe that’s the point.”

The station trembled.

The clock abruptly stopped moving backward.

Every broken light flickered back to life at once.

The departure board crackled overhead.

Names began appearing across its surface.

Not thousands.

Only two.

KAI MERCER

ADRIAN

Then a third line slowly formed beneath them.

AUTHOR

Kai stared at it.

The stranger’s expression darkened.

”It’s challenging you.”

”To what?”

”Write the next line.”

Kai looked around.

”Where?”

The stranger pointed.

The white doorway had returned.

Beyond it sat a desk.

A single sheet of paper rested upon its surface.

Beside it lay a pen.

Kai recognized it immediately.

The same pen that had appeared in his hand before.

The same pen he had used to write Adrian’s beginning.

Adrian stepped beside him.

”You don’t have to go.”

Kai looked at him.

”I do.”

”Why?”

”Because I started this.”

Adrian shook his head.

”No.”

Kai frowned.

”You don’t understand.”

”I do.”

Adrian looked toward the doorway.

”You started me.”

Then he turned back toward Kai.

”But you don’t get to decide how I finish.”

Kai froze.

Adrian took a slow breath.

”If I’m really supposed to become my own person, then I have to choose what happens next.”

Kai stared at him.

Then smiled.

For the first time since discovering the truth, something inside him loosened.

”You’re right.”

Adrian nodded.

”So...”

Kai looked toward the doorway.

”...we go together.”

The moment they crossed the threshold, the station vanished.

The trains disappeared.

The conductor disappeared.

The stranger disappeared.

Only the white room remained.

A desk stood in the center.

A blank sheet of paper waited upon it.

The pen rested beside it.

Adrian stood across from Kai.

For several seconds neither of them moved.

Then Adrian walked forward.

Kai watched silently.

Adrian picked up the pen.

His fingers trembled.

”What do I write?”

Kai smiled faintly.

”Whatever you want.”

Adrian looked down at the blank page.

”Anything?”

”Anything.”

”Even if it changes everything?”

”Especially then.”

Slowly, Adrian lowered the pen.

The tip touched the paper.

For a moment nothing happened.

Then words appeared.

I don’t want to be the person someone else imagined.

Kai’s eyes widened.

The room trembled.

More words followed.

I want to become the person I choose to be.

Cracks spread across the white space surrounding them. Not physical cracks. Something deeper. Something fundamental.

The Author was resisting.

Adrian continued writing.

His hand shook harder.

But he didn’t stop.

I don’t know where I came from.

I don’t know who created me.

I don’t know why I was left behind.

He paused.

Looked at Kai.

Then wrote one final sentence.

But I am here now.

The room fell silent.

Kai felt something inside him break.

Not painfully.

Like a chain finally snapping after years of strain.

Adrian placed the pen down.

The page was no longer blank.

For the first time...

The story belonged to him.

A voice suddenly filled the room.

THAT IS NOT YOUR CHOICE.

Adrian looked up.

The walls began collapsing inward.

YOU WERE WRITTEN.

Adrian didn’t move.

YOU EXIST BECAUSE HE WROTE YOU.

He glanced toward Kai.

Then back toward the unseen presence.

”Maybe.”

The room trembled violently.

”But he doesn’t own me.”

The voice became louder.

EVERY CHARACTER BELONGS TO THEIR AUTHOR.

Adrian smiled.

”No.”

He looked at Kai.

Then at the page.

”Maybe that’s how stories used to work.”

His fingers tightened around the pen.

”But I’m not a character anymore.”

The paper beneath his hand began glowing.

”I’ve made my choice.”

The white room shattered.

Far away, on Platform Zero, the Choice Line vanished.

Every passenger stopped moving.

Every shadow disappeared.

Every stolen memory returned at once.

Noah collapsed to his knees as memories of his mother flooded back into his mind.

Luna suddenly remembered every moment she had nearly forgotten.

Daniel remembered the entire night.

The conductor looked toward the place where the third railway had stood.

Nothing remained.

Only ordinary stone.

Only one thing had changed.

The departure board.

Where there had once been two names, there was now only one.

ADRIAN

Beneath it, a destination had finally appeared.

UNKNOWN

The conductor stared at it.

Then smiled.

For the first time that night, he looked relieved.

But the stranger wasn’t smiling.

He was staring at the empty space where Kai had disappeared.

Because he knew something the others didn’t.

Adrian had escaped the Author.

But Kai...

Had not.

And somewhere inside the collapsing white room...

The pen was still moving.
