Yandere Stream

The train began to move without making a sound. Kai watched as it glided away from Platform Zero, its dark windows reflecting the fractured station lights. There was no whistle, no hiss of steam, and no metallic groan from the rails. The locomotive simply drifted forward as though the tracks had been waiting for it long before anyone arrived. Above them, the departure board flickered to life. For a brief moment, a single destination appeared:

ADRIAN — DESTINATION: HOME

The words lingered only for a second before dissolving into static.

Kai instinctively stepped forward. ”Adrian!”

The train continued moving.

”Adrian!”

Luna caught his arm before he could run after it. ”Kai, wait.”

”I can’t.”

”You don’t even know where it’s going.”

”I know.” He turned toward her, his expression tense. ”Neither does he.”

Before Luna could stop him again, Daniel stepped directly into his path. Fear, not frustration, filled his eyes.

”Kai, every single time you run after something in this place, reality breaks a little more.”

Kai glanced toward the retreating train. ”Then maybe I need to catch it before it breaks again.”

Daniel stared at him for several seconds before shaking his head. ”You really don’t know how to quit.”

”Apparently not.”

Before the argument could continue, the conductor stepped forward. His gaze remained fixed on the departing train as he calmly said, ”Let him go.”

Everyone turned toward him.

”That train cannot be stopped.”

”Then why are we letting him follow it?” Daniel demanded.

”Because it isn’t taking Adrian where you believe.”

Kai frowned. ”What does that mean?”

The conductor’s expression softened. ”Home isn’t a place.”

The station fell silent.

”Then what is it?” Kai asked.

”A memory.”

Kai felt his stomach tighten. ”Whose memory?”

”His.”

”Adrian’s?”

The conductor nodded.

”But he doesn’t have a past.”

”No,” the old man replied quietly. ”He has a past. He simply doesn’t remember it.”

Those words settled heavily over the platform.

The stranger from the second train stepped forward. ”There is another problem.”

Kai looked at him. ”What?”

”That train should not exist.”

”Why?”

”Because Adrian was never supposed to have a destination.”

The conductor nodded in agreement.

”He’s creating one.”

The realization struck Kai immediately. It felt eerily similar to the moment Adrian had written his first sentence and to the moment the Choice Line had begun rejecting rules that had governed it for centuries. Adrian was no longer following a story. He was creating one, and reality itself was responding.

By then, the train had vanished into the darkness.

Kai turned back to the conductor. ”Can I follow it?”

”You can.”

Daniel groaned loudly. ”Of course he can.”

”But,” the conductor continued, raising a finger, ”you cannot use the train.”

Kai blinked. ”Why not?”

”Because it belongs to Adrian.”

”Then how am I supposed to get there?”

The conductor pointed toward the opposite side of the station.

Everyone followed his gaze.

A small maintenance trolley sat beside the tracks.

Kai stared at it in disbelief. ”You can’t be serious.”

”I am.”

”That thing?”

”It was built for repairs.”

Daniel looked from the trolley to the conductor. ”We’re chasing a reality-breaking train using railway maintenance equipment?”

”Yes.”

”That’s ridiculous.”

The conductor smiled. ”It works.”

Kai sighed. ”Good enough.”

To his surprise, Luna climbed aboard first.

”What are you doing?” he asked.

”Coming with you.”

”You don’t even remember everything.”

She shrugged. ”I remember enough.”

Daniel climbed aboard next, followed immediately by Noah. When they were settled, Daniel looked toward the conductor.

”You coming?”

The old man adjusted his cap. ”I have a station to run.”

”At an abandoned railway that shouldn’t exist?”

”Especially here.”

The stranger stepped onto the trolley as well.

Kai frowned. ”You too?”

”I’ve been waiting for this journey far longer than you have.”

”Why?”

The stranger only smiled, and Kai was beginning to suspect that was the closest thing to a real answer he would ever get from him.

Moments later, the trolley lurched forward.

The station quickly disappeared behind them as the small vehicle accelerated far faster than it should have been capable of. Wind rushed past their faces while the rails stretched endlessly into darkness. A single lamp mounted to the front illuminated the track ahead.

At first, the tunnel looked ordinary.

Then the walls vanished.

Without warning, they were no longer traveling through darkness but through a city unlike anything Kai had ever seen. Towering skyscrapers rose beneath a black sky. Cars moved through intersections. Neon signs glowed in brilliant colors. Sidewalks overflowed with people living ordinary lives.

Yet every single person lacked a face.

They walked, laughed, talked, and hurried through their routines, but where eyes, mouths, and features should have been, there was only smooth, blank skin.

Kai froze.

”What the hell?”

Luna leaned forward while Daniel visibly recoiled.

”Okay,” Daniel muttered, pointing at the faceless crowds. ”I hate that.”

The stranger nodded. ”This is the City of Forgotten Things.”

”Forgotten by who?” Kai asked.

”Everyone.”

The answer somehow made the sight even worse.

The trolley continued onward as the city gradually changed. Skyscrapers gave way to smaller buildings. Roads narrowed. Bright lights faded into darkness. Eventually, the urban landscape transformed into a quiet suburban neighborhood filled with modest houses, driveways, mailboxes, and silent streetlights.

A strange familiarity settled over Kai.

Not because he had been there before.

Because he had dreamed of it.

A white house.

A broken porch light.

A red mailbox.

A large tree in the front yard.

Every detail felt buried somewhere deep inside him.

”Stop.”

The stranger immediately pulled the brake, and the trolley screeched to a halt.

Without another word, Kai stepped onto the tracks and began walking toward the house.

”Kai?” Luna called after him.

He barely heard her.

The blue front door.

The three porch steps.

The cracked second-floor window.

Everything felt impossibly familiar.

Then he saw the child standing in the yard.

The boy looked about eight years old, barefoot, wearing a green shirt and clutching a toy train in both hands. When he looked up, their eyes met.

Kai recognized him immediately.

It was Adrian.

Not the Adrian he knew now, but a child. A real child with memories, history, and a life of his own.

The boy smiled.

”You came back.”

Kai could barely breathe.

The child hugged the toy train to his chest. ”I knew you would.”

”Who are you?” Kai finally managed.

The boy looked confused.

”You know me.”

Kai shook his head.

”No.”

The child’s smile softened.

”You just forgot.”

Luna approached cautiously. ”Kai...”

He barely heard her.

The boy stepped closer.

”Do you remember the promise?”

Kai swallowed hard. ”What promise?”

The child pointed toward the house.

”You said you’d take me home.”

Kai stared at the front door.

”Is this your home?”

”It was.”

Something tightened painfully in his chest.

”Was?”

The child’s smile disappeared.

”The Author erased it.”

The world seemed to hold its breath.

”Why?”

”Because you wouldn’t let him keep me.”

Kai’s pulse thundered in his ears.

”Who?”

The child pointed toward the house.

”The one who writes endings.”

”Where is he?”

”Inside.”

The front door slowly opened.

Darkness filled the doorway.

No wind moved. No sound emerged. Only darkness.

Then a voice spoke.

A voice Kai recognized instantly.

His own.

Older.

Tired.

Broken.

”Come inside, Kai.”

Every muscle in his body locked.

”There’s something you need to remember.”

Adrian grabbed his hand.

”Don’t listen to him.”

Kai looked down.

The child was trembling.

”Why?”

”Because he isn’t the one who wrote my story.”

The voice laughed softly, a laugh Kai knew all too well.

Then the door opened wider.

Someone stepped onto the porch.

Kai froze.

It wasn’t an older version of himself. It wasn’t Finn. It wasn’t the stranger.

It was a woman.

Dark hair.

Tired eyes.

A face he had spent years trying to remember.

His mother.

His knees nearly gave out, and Luna caught him before he fell.

The woman smiled gently.

”Hi, Kai.”

His voice barely worked.

”You’re not real.”

For the first time, her smile faltered.

”Does that matter?”

Kai couldn’t answer.

She looked toward Adrian before turning back to him.

”You wanted to know who wrote you.”

She stepped closer.

”Now you can ask.”

Kai’s throat tightened.

”Who?”

The woman smiled.

Then the entire neighborhood went dark.

Streetlights exploded.

Windows shattered into fragments of light.

The sky cracked open like paper being torn apart.

As the world unraveled around him, her voice became a whisper carried through the growing darkness.

”The same person...”

The sound of a pen scratching across paper echoed through the void.

”...who taught you how to imagine.”

The houses vanished.

The street dissolved.

Reality peeled away in strips of black ink.

And Kai realized the scratching wasn’t coming from the sky, the darkness, or the collapsing house.

It was coming from inside his chest.

As though somewhere deep within him, someone was still writing.
