Yandere Stream

Nobody answered.

The little girl’s question lingered in Apartment 7B long after she spoke it, hanging over the room like a weight none of them could ignore.

If you can only save one story... how do you choose?

Kai looked down at the pages scattered across the floor. There were hundreds of them. Maybe thousands. Entire lives existed on those sheets of paper. Some had lasted a Chapter. Others had never even reached their first sentence. Every one of them had once carried the possibility of becoming something real. They had names, dreams, families, futures. Then someone had picked up a pen and decided otherwise.

Slowly, Kai exhaled.

”I don’t.”

The little girl smiled.

”I know.”

Kai frowned. ”You asked.”

”I wanted to hear you say it.”

He looked back at the sea of pages. ”I’m done choosing who deserves to exist.”

The fountain pen in his pocket immediately grew warm.

Noah suddenly stiffened beside him. His expression changed as though he had heard something nobody else could.

”Kai,” he whispered.

”They heard you.”

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed Apartment 7B.

Not the supernatural darkness they had faced before. Not the endless void beyond the black door. This was ordinary darkness—the absence of electricity. Yet somehow that made it more unsettling.

Outside the windows, the city remained alive with light. Cars passed. Street lamps glowed. Apartment windows shone across the street.

Only Apartment 7B had gone dark.

A moment later, voices filled the room.

Soft voices.

Dozens of them.

Fragments of conversations drifted through the darkness.

”...I had a brother...”

”...the flowers were blue...”

”...don’t forget my name...”

”...I was almost happy...”

”...tell Mom I’ll...”

The words came from everywhere at once.

Not memories.

Lives.

Daniel slowly turned in a circle, his eyes searching the darkness.

”Who’s talking?”

Luna wrapped her arms around herself. ”I can’t see anyone.”

Kai could.

At first they appeared only as faint outlines. Then shapes slowly emerged throughout the apartment.

A woman sat on the edge of a couch that didn’t exist.

An old man turned invisible pages of an unseen newspaper.

A little boy knelt to tie shoes that had never been bought.

A teenage girl laughed at a joke that had never been written.

They were transparent and incomplete, like sketches abandoned before the artist finished them. Yet there was something painfully human about them.

None of them looked at Kai.

They simply existed.

The fountain pen slipped from Kai’s pocket on its own.

Everyone watched as it floated into the air.

Its silver nib gleamed faintly in the darkness.

Then every unfinished figure in the apartment turned toward it.

Not toward Kai.

Toward the pen.

The same expression appeared on every face.

Hope.

Kai swallowed hard.

”What do they want?”

The little girl’s answer came quietly.

”They think you’ll finish them.”

The pen drifted downward and landed gently in Kai’s hand.

The moment his fingers closed around it, every unfinished page in the apartment rose into the air.

Hundreds of sheets circled around him like a storm.

Blank spaces.

Half-written dialogue.

Abandoned dreams.

Unfinished lives.

Words slowly appeared across the nearest page.

Continue?

Kai stared.

The temptation was overwhelming.

He could do it.

He could finish every story.

He could give them names, families, futures, and happy endings. He could write away their loneliness. He could fill every blank space.

All he had to do was write.

The pen trembled eagerly in his hand.

Almost hungrily.

”No.”

The word left his mouth before he fully realized he had spoken.

Instantly, every page stopped moving.

The apartment fell silent.

Even the unfinished figures seemed shocked.

The little girl tilted her head.

”...No?”

Kai lowered the pen.

”I won’t write them.”

Disappointment crossed several faces.

The sight hurt more than he expected.

Still, he continued.

”Because they deserve more than my imagination.”

No one spoke.

Kai looked at each transparent figure in turn.

”I don’t know who you really were. I don’t know what you would’ve loved, what choices you would’ve made, or what kind of people you would’ve become.”

His voice softened.

”If I write you now, I’m not saving you.”

He shook his head.

”I’m just replacing one author with another.”

The fountain pen instantly became cold.

Very cold.

Noah smiled.

For the first time since Kai had met him, the smile reached his eyes.

”You passed.”

Kai blinked.

”Passed?”

”The test.”

”What test?”

”The pen doesn’t choose writers.”

Noah looked at the silver fountain pen.

”It chooses owners.”

Luna frowned deeply.

”I have absolutely no idea what’s happening.”

Daniel nodded.

”Glad it’s not just me.”

A quiet laugh escaped several of the unfinished figures.

Then something unexpected happened.

They smiled.

Not because Kai had saved them.

Because he hadn’t claimed them.

A little boy gave Kai a playful salute before dissolving into light.

An elderly woman nodded gratefully.

A young man laughed once and vanished.

One by one, the unfinished people disappeared.

Not erased.

Released.

The pages slowly drifted back into the box.

No longer desperate.

Simply waiting.

Then a sharp cracking sound echoed through the apartment.

Kai looked down.

A thin fracture had appeared along the side of the fountain pen.

His heart skipped.

”No...”

The crack glowed softly.

A single drop of black ink slid from the pen and landed on the wooden floor.

Instead of staining the wood, it spread.

The ink expanded outward like roots growing beneath the surface. Slowly, a perfect black circle formed on the floor.

Everyone stepped back instinctively.

The circle continued growing until it measured nearly six feet across.

Then it stopped.

Silence filled the apartment.

A gentle knock echoed from beneath the floorboards.

One knock.

Then another.

Then a small voice.

”...Hello?”

Every person in the room froze.

Kai slowly knelt beside the circle.

”...Hello?”

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then the voice answered.

It sounded young.

Scared.

”...Is someone finally there?”

Kai felt his chest tighten.

”Yeah.”

A long pause followed.

Then the voice spoke again.

”I’ve been waiting since Chapter One.”

The circle of ink began glowing brighter.

The little girl standing in the doorway closed her eyes. A single tear rolled down her cheek.

When she opened them again, her voice was barely a whisper.

”...That’s not an abandoned character.”

Kai looked up sharply.

”What?”

The little girl’s expression trembled.

For the first time, she looked afraid.

”...That’s the narrator.”
