Yandere Stream

Kai stared at the three names carved into the glowing rail.

For a moment, he thought the station had gone silent again.

Then he realized the silence was inside his own head.

Everything around him was still moving. The overhead lamps flickered weakly. Steam escaped from the waiting locomotive in slow breaths. Daniel was saying something to the conductor. Luna was looking between the rails and the trains, trying to understand why everyone suddenly looked terrified. Noah stood near the edge of the platform with both hands pressed against his temples as if he were trying to hold together memories that refused to stay in one piece.

Kai heard none of it clearly.

His attention remained fixed on the Choice Line.

THE STORY

ADRIAN

KAI MERCER

The names glowed softly against the steel.

Three choices.

Three paths.

Three futures.

Except they weren’t choices at all.

The moment Kai looked at them, something inside him understood exactly what the railway wanted.

Choose the Story.

Adrian disappears.

Choose Adrian.

The story changes.

Choose himself.

Everyone else becomes unnecessary.

Kai slowly released a breath.

”That’s clever.”

The stranger looked at him.

”What?”

”The question.”

Kai crouched beside the glowing rail.

”They’re pretending I have three options.”

The stranger’s expression didn’t change.

Kai looked at the names again.

”But I don’t.”

Silence.

Then the stranger nodded.

”No.”

Kai pointed at the first name.

”If I choose the Story, Adrian disappears.”

”Yes.”

”The second?”

”Adrian survives.”

”And everything changes.”

”Yes.”

Kai looked at the final name.

”And if I choose myself?”

For the first time, the stranger looked away.

”You already know.”

Kai laughed quietly.

There was no humor in it.

”Yeah.”

”I disappear.”

No one argued.

Because no one could.

Luna stepped closer immediately.

”Disappear?”

Kai looked up.

Confusion still lingered on her face.

She remembered almost nothing.

Not him.

Not the apartment.

Not the months they had spent together.

Not the countless conversations that had once felt important.

And yet she remained beside him.

Trusting him.

Protecting him.

Even without knowing why.

”Apparently.”

Luna frowned.

”That’s stupid.”

Kai blinked.

”What?”

She folded her arms.

”I don’t know who you are.”

”You don’t remember me.”

”No.”

”Then—”

”But I know enough.”

Her eyes moved to the glowing rail.

”I don’t believe you should have to die just because I forgot you.”

The words struck harder than they should have.

For a second the station disappeared.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

A memory surfaced.

Rain tapping softly against apartment windows.

A laptop glowing on a coffee table.

Luna sitting across from him.

Laughing.

He remembered pretending not to laugh.

Remembered losing anyway.

She had said something.

Something important.

He couldn’t remember the words.

Only the feeling.

Warm.

Safe.

Real.

The memory faded.

Kai swallowed.

”Thank you.”

Luna frowned.

”For what?”

He smiled faintly.

”Nothing.”

Above them, the station clock lurched backward.

11:31.

A chill crawled up Kai’s spine.

No countdown was visible.

No numbers appeared.

Yet he knew.

Everyone knew.

Time was running out.

Every backward tick removed something from existence.

A face.

A name.

A memory.

A smell.

A song.

Tiny fragments of reality were disappearing one piece at a time.

The Author wasn’t destroying the world.

It was editing it.

Quietly.

Patiently.

Like an editor crossing out words nobody noticed were missing until later.

Daniel suddenly cleared his throat.

”Okay.”

Everyone looked at him.

He pointed directly at the Choice Line.

”I’ve got an idea.”

Kai immediately frowned.

”That sounds dangerous.”

”Shut up.”

Daniel stepped closer to the rail.

”If this thing is built around forcing Kai to choose...”

His gaze shifted toward the stranger.

”Then we don’t let him choose.”

The platform went still.

”What?”

Daniel shrugged.

”We choose instead.”

The conductor’s expression hardened immediately.

”You don’t understand.”

”No.”

Daniel nodded.

”I don’t.”

His eyes found Kai again.

”But I understand enough.”

He pointed at the final name.

”Whatever happens if he picks himself...”

His voice became firmer.

”We don’t let that happen.”

”Daniel—”

”No.”

Daniel shook his head.

”You’ve been doing this all night.”

”All of it.”

”Every time something goes wrong, you step forward.”

”Every time somebody needs to make a decision, you make it.”

A grin appeared on his face.

”You’re not the only idiot here.”

Noah stepped forward next.

”I agree.”

Kai stared.

”Noah.”

”You saved me.”

”I didn’t.”

”You did.”

Noah smiled faintly.

”I don’t care if I remember everything tomorrow.”

His eyes softened.

”I remember enough right now.”

Then he took his place beside Daniel.

”You don’t get to disappear.”

Luna moved forward.

Then Adrian.

One after another they formed a line between Kai and the Choice Line.

A barrier.

A refusal.

The conductor watched silently.

The stranger lowered his head.

And suddenly Kai understood.

They weren’t choosing an answer.

They were rejecting the question itself.

The glowing letters shifted.

The rail flashed.

CHOOSE.

Daniel folded his arms.

”No.”

The word echoed.

The letters brightened.

CHOOSE.

Luna stepped forward.

”No.”

The station trembled.

The conductor’s eyes widened.

”Everyone back.”

Nobody moved.

The third rail began glowing brighter.

CHOOSE.

Noah lifted his head.

”No.”

The steel beneath their feet vibrated violently.

Adrian looked directly at the glowing command.

For the first time all night, there was certainty in his eyes.

”No.”

The letters flickered.

Distorted.

Warped.

Like a machine receiving an impossible answer.

Kai stepped forward beside them.

”No.”

The station screamed.

Every light exploded at once.

Glass shattered overhead.

Darkness swallowed Platform Zero.

The two trains released deafening whistles simultaneously.

The ground shook hard enough to throw Daniel to one knee.

Luna grabbed a nearby pillar.

Noah crashed against the station wall.

Adrian fell backward.

Kai remained standing.

Barely.

The Choice Line erupted into blinding white light.

And for one impossible moment—

Kai saw everything.

Not the station.

Not the trains.

Everything.

Worlds unfolded before him.

Millions.

Billions.

Stories beginning.

Stories ending.

Characters being born.

Characters being forgotten.

Children growing old.

Cities rising.

Empires collapsing.

Heroes succeeding.

Villains winning.

Lives touching one another for a single second before moving apart forever.

He saw pages.

Endless pages.

Countless stories.

Infinite beginnings.

Infinite endings.

And behind them all...

Something enormous.

Not a person.

Not a creature.

Not a god.

A presence.

Watching.

Waiting.

Writing.

Kai couldn’t see its face.

Because it didn’t have one.

It didn’t need one.

It was creation itself.

The Author.

And it was looking directly at him.

A voice entered his mind.

Not male.

Not female.

Not young.

Not old.

It sounded like every voice he had ever heard layered together.

WHY DO YOU REFUSE?

Kai clenched his fists.

”Because the question is wrong.”

Silence answered him.

WHY?

Kai looked toward his friends.

Toward Luna.

Daniel.

Noah.

Adrian.

”Because you’re asking me who matters.”

The presence remained silent.

Kai’s voice grew stronger.

”That’s not something one person gets to decide.”

The light intensified.

EVERY STORY REQUIRES A CENTER.

Kai shook his head.

”Then write a better story.”

The station trembled.

Reality bent.

Then the Author spoke again.

YOU WERE ALWAYS THE CENTER.

Kai froze.

”What?”

YOU JUST FORGOT.

The words struck harder than any blow.

Images flooded his mind.

Not memories.

Possibilities.

Versions.

Hundreds of them.

Thousands.

Kai as a child.

Kai as an old man.

Kai as a king.

Kai as a villain.

Kai alone.

Kai surrounded by friends.

Kai dying.

Kai laughing.

Kai writing.

Kai reading.

Kai watching someone else write.

Then—

One final image.

A white room.

A desk.

A blank page.

The stranger sitting across from him.

The memory hit with crushing force.

Kai remembered.

Not everything.

But enough.

He had been there before.

Not as a character.

Not as a reader.

Not as an author.

Something in between.

A witness.

A participant.

A possibility.

And on the desk lay an empty page.

Adrian’s page.

Kai remembered picking up a pen.

Remembered writing a single sentence.

He deserves a chance to become someone.

Kai’s eyes widened.

The stranger saw the realization immediately.

”Now you remember.”

Kai turned toward him.

”You...”

His voice trembled.

”You were there.”

The stranger nodded.

”I was.”

”What happened?”

Sadness crossed the man’s face.

A sadness so deep it seemed older than time itself.

”You wrote him.”

Kai looked toward Adrian.

Then back again.

”I wrote him?”

”Yes.”

”Then why don’t I remember?”

The stranger’s gaze drifted toward the Choice Line.

”Because you didn’t finish.”

Kai felt his stomach drop.

”What did I write?”

The answer came quietly.

”You wrote a beginning.”

The stranger paused.

Then finished.

”And then you abandoned the story.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Kai looked at Adrian.

Really looked at him.

The unfinished memories.

The missing past.

The empty spaces.

The uncertainty.

The loneliness.

Suddenly every piece fit together.

The Choice Line hadn’t chosen Kai by accident.

Adrian had no beginning because his beginning had never been completed.

The Author wanted an answer because the story had never received one.

This wasn’t a broken story.

It was an abandoned one.

And Kai had been the person who left it behind.

The station fell completely silent.

Then Adrian spoke.

His voice was barely more than a whisper.

”So...”

He looked directly at Kai.

”...you were the one who left me unfinished?”

Kai opened his mouth.

No words came out.

Because the truth was finally standing in front of him.

And for the first time that night—

He wasn’t afraid of the Author.

He wasn’t afraid of the railway.

He wasn’t afraid of disappearing.

He was afraid of what Adrian might think after learning he had been forgotten.

And somehow...

That terrified him more than anything else.
