Yandere Stream

The scratching stopped.

For a moment, Kai almost wished it hadn’t.

The sound had been quiet, almost delicate, but there had been something deeply wrong about it. It hadn’t sounded like a pen moving across paper somewhere beneath the station. It had sounded like the world itself being written. Every slow stroke had carried an impossible weight, as though something hidden beneath reality was deciding what was allowed to exist and what wasn’t.

Kai remained crouched beside Adrian. Neither of them spoke. The enormous words covering the walls still stared back at them.

BEGIN AGAIN.

The letters seemed alive.

Not physically.

But every time Kai blinked, they looked slightly different. Older. Newer. Closer. As though they weren’t painted on the stone at all. As though they were growing beneath it.

Finally, Kai stood.

”What is the Author?”

The conductor didn’t answer.

Kai’s patience snapped.

”Don’t do that.”

The old man looked at him.

”Don’t stand there looking mysterious. If you know something, tell me.”

The conductor’s eyes drifted back toward the words.

”I’m not trying to be mysterious.”

”Then explain.”

”I don’t know how.”

Kai folded his arms.

”Try.”

For several seconds, the conductor said nothing. Then he sighed.

”You keep thinking the things we’ve encountered are people.”

”The Witnesses.”

”The trains.”

”The Choice Line.”

”All of them.”

His gaze swept across the station.

”They aren’t people.”

”Then what are they?”

The conductor hesitated.

Then quietly answered,

”They are rules.”

Kai frowned.

”Rules?”

”Rules that learned how to walk.”

Silence followed.

Nobody seemed entirely sure how to respond to that.

The stranger finally stepped away from the pale train. The moment his boots touched the platform, the locomotive behind him released a long metallic groan. He didn’t look back.

”You shouldn’t have told him.”

The conductor’s expression hardened.

”He deserved to know.”

”He wasn’t ready.”

”Nobody is.”

The stranger looked at Kai.

”The Author isn’t a person.”

Kai waited.

”It’s the force that decides what happens next.”

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

”So... fate?”

”No.”

The stranger shook his head.

”Fate follows rules.”

”The Author writes the rules.”

A chill ran down Kai’s spine.

”So it controls everything?”

The stranger’s eyes settled on the words covering the station walls.

”No.”

His voice became quieter.

”That’s the problem.”

”It used to.”

Nobody spoke.

Even the station seemed to hold its breath.

Kai slowly looked toward Adrian.

The young man had finally stood up.

His face was pale.

But he wasn’t shaking anymore.

”What changed?” Adrian asked.

The stranger’s gaze softened.

”You.”

Adrian blinked.

”Me?”

”You were supposed to be a character.”

He paused.

”Instead...”

His eyes darkened.

”...you became a question.”

The station fell silent again.

The stranger continued.

”And stories don’t know what to do with questions they can’t answer.”

Suddenly, every light in the station flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then they all went out.

Darkness swallowed Platform Zero.

Luna inhaled sharply.

Daniel muttered a curse under his breath.

Noah instinctively stepped backward.

Then a single light appeared.

Tiny.

White.

Floating in the center of the platform.

Kai stared.

The light slowly expanded.

Growing taller.

Wider.

Until it became a doorway.

There was no frame.

No wall.

Only a rectangular opening filled with pure white light.

The stranger’s expression changed instantly.

”That’s early.”

The conductor whispered,

”Much too early.”

Kai found himself moving before he realized it.

Something about the doorway felt familiar.

Not visually.

Emotionally.

Like a forgotten memory tugging at the edge of his mind.

Luna grabbed his wrist.

”Don’t.”

He looked at her.

”I have to.”

”No.”

Her grip tightened.

”You don’t.”

Kai couldn’t explain what he was feeling.

The doorway felt like home.

Not a place.

A feeling.

A certainty.

”I think...”

He swallowed.

”...I’ve already been there.”

Luna’s expression immediately darkened.

”Then that’s exactly why you shouldn’t go.”

The doorway flickered.

For less than a second, Kai saw what lay beyond it.

A room.

White walls.

A desk.

Two chairs.

A stack of papers.

And someone sitting across from him.

Kai couldn’t see their face.

But he knew them.

The realization hit him with such force that his knees almost buckled.

The figure slowly lifted its head.

Its mouth moved.

No sound emerged.

Yet Kai heard the words clearly inside his mind.

You came back.

His heart stopped.

The figure spoke again.

I told you not to.

The doorway vanished.

Instantly.

The station returned.

Kai stumbled backward.

Luna caught him before he fell.

”What did you see?”

Kai opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Because something else had appeared.

Not on the walls.

Not on the tracks.

Not anywhere visible.

Inside his mind.

A single sentence.

YOU HAVE 27 MINUTES.

Kai stared into space.

The conductor immediately noticed.

”What is it?”

Kai slowly looked up.

”We have twenty-seven minutes.”

The conductor’s face tightened.

”For what?”

”I don’t know.”

The stranger did.

The moment he heard those words, all color drained from his face.

”Until the first rewrite.”

Daniel stared.

”The first what?”

The stranger looked toward the station clock.

Everyone followed his gaze.

The clock had begun moving backward.

11:59.

11:58.

11:57.

11:56.

Each passing second brought it closer to the moment they had first arrived.

Noah felt his stomach twist.

”We’re going backward.”

The stranger nodded.

”Not the station.”

His eyes settled on Kai.

”The story.”

A sudden emptiness swept across the platform.

Kai felt it immediately.

Something disappeared.

A memory.

Not a specific one.

Just... something.

A piece of himself.

Gone.

Luna blinked.

Then frowned.

”What...?”

Kai turned toward her.

She looked around in confusion.

”Why are we here?”

The blood drained from his face.

”What?”

Luna glanced around the station.

”The station.”

She looked toward Daniel.

”Why did we come here?”

Daniel stared.

”You don’t remember?”

”Remember what?”

Kai felt panic surge through him.

”No.”

He stepped toward her.

”Luna.”

She looked up.

”How do you know my name?”

The question shattered something inside him.

She didn’t remember.

Not the trains.

Not the station.

Not the conductor.

Not Adrian.

Nothing.

Kai spun toward the stranger.

”What did you do?”

”I didn’t do anything.”

”Then fix it!”

”I can’t.”

”You’re supposed to understand this!”

The stranger’s expression hardened.

”So are you.”

Kai froze.

”What?”

”You’ve done this before.”

”No.”

”Yes.”

”I would remember.”

The stranger looked at him with something dangerously close to pity.

”That’s exactly the problem.”

He stepped forward.

”Every time the story reaches this point...”

His voice dropped.

”You forget.”

Kai felt the world tilt beneath him.

”What point?”

The stranger’s answer was barely above a whisper.

”The point where you choose whether to save the story...”

His eyes locked onto Kai’s.

”...or save yourself.”

A metallic click echoed beneath the platform.

Everyone looked down.

The Choice Line had returned.

The glowing letters spread across the rails.

But this time there was no destination.

No name.

No status.

Only a single command.

CHOOSE ONE.

A moment later, two options appeared beneath it.

THE STORY

ADRIAN

The station became deathly silent.

The stranger closed his eyes.

The conductor whispered,

”Not again.”

Kai looked toward Adrian.

Then toward Luna.

She still didn’t remember him.

Didn’t remember any of this.

Maybe she never would.

The clock continued ticking backward.

11:42.

11:41.

11:40.

The countdown continued.

Seventeen minutes.

Sixteen.

Fifteen.

Kai stared at the glowing choices.

Then noticed something moving beneath them.

A third line was appearing.

One letter at a time.

Slowly.

Patiently.

As though reality itself was writing it.

K.

A.

I.

His pulse thundered in his ears.

The remaining letters formed.

KAI MERCER

His blood turned to ice.

Then he understood.

The Choice Line wasn’t asking him to choose between the story and Adrian.

It was asking him to choose between all of them...

and himself.

Kai stared at his own name.

For the first time that night, he understood what the Author had been trying to accomplish.

It didn’t need to kill him.

It didn’t need to erase him.

It didn’t even need to defeat him.

It only needed to make him choose.

Because the moment Kai chose himself...

The story would finally have permission to continue without him.
