Yandere Stream

Adrian didn’t turn around. Every instinct in his body screamed at him to look over his shoulder, yet he remained perfectly still. The voice behind him sounded exactly like Kai’s, carrying the same faint rasp that appeared whenever exhaustion crept into his words. It was so convincing that Adrian could almost picture Kai standing there, waiting for him to make some sarcastic remark about their situation. But something felt wrong. Kai would never whisper his name with that strange emptiness lurking beneath the sound. He kept his gaze fixed on the woman seated across from him and forced himself to ignore the presence at his back.

”You’re not Luna.”

The woman offered a faint smile. ”No.”

”Then why do you look like her?”

”I don’t.”

Adrian frowned. ”You do.”

”That’s because you’ve only ever known one version of her.”

The darkness behind him seemed to shift. He could hear slow, measured breathing, patient and unhurried, as if whatever stood there knew it could wait forever. Tightening his grip around the pen he had somehow carried onto the train, Adrian forced himself to stay focused.

”Who is behind me?”

The woman ignored the question and looked down at the pen instead. ”You shouldn’t have that.”

Adrian glanced at it. The familiar black pen rested in his hand—the same one from the white room, the one that had allowed him to write his own sentence into existence.

”I thought it was mine.”

”It isn’t.”

”Then whose is it?”

Her eyes drifted upward. ”The first person who ever wrote your name.”

”Kai.”

”No.”

The answer came so quickly that Adrian froze.

”You said he wrote me.”

”He wrote your beginning,” she replied quietly. ”But he didn’t write your name.”

Adrian’s fingers tightened around the pen. ”Then who did?”

The woman met his eyes without hesitation.

”Me.”

The voice behind him spoke again.

”Adrian.”

A chill ran through him. He closed his eyes for a moment, and the woman immediately leaned forward.

”Don’t answer.”

”Why?”

”Because if you answer,” she whispered as the train lights flickered overhead, ”it will know where you are.”

Adrian swallowed hard. ”Who?”

She didn’t answer directly. Instead, she pointed toward the darkened window beside them.

A shadow stood in the reflection.

Tall. Motionless. Faceless.

The Reader.

His stomach dropped. The figure wasn’t behind him at all. It existed inside the glass, watching from the other side of the reflection as though reality itself were only a thin barrier separating them.

”Can it come through?” Adrian asked.

”Not yet.”

”Then why are we stopped?”

”Because someone is trying to let it in.”

His eyes narrowed. ”Who?”

The woman pointed behind him.

”Your friend.”

Understanding hit him immediately. The voice wasn’t Kai. It was something wearing Kai’s voice, something that knew him well enough to imitate it perfectly. Adrian rose from his seat. The entire train shuddered beneath his feet, and the shadow in the window seemed to move closer.

”I don’t think I like where this is going.”

The woman smiled faintly. ”You’ve never liked the important parts.”

At that moment, the train doors slid open. Beyond them was not a station, a tunnel, or another carriage. There was only endless white stretching in every direction. Adrian stared at it in disbelief.

”Where does that lead?”

”Back.”

”Back where?”

”To the first page.”

He looked at her. ”And you?”

”I’m going with you.”

”Why?”

For the first time, something like guilt crossed her face.

”Because I owe Kai an apology.”

Together they stepped through the doorway. The instant Adrian’s foot touched the white floor beyond, the train vanished. He spun around and found nothing behind him—no tracks, no carriage, no doors, not even the woman. The endless white surrounded him on all sides.

Then he heard footsteps.

A figure emerged from the distance.

Kai.

Relief washed through him so quickly it was almost painful.

”Kai.”

The figure smiled.

Adrian stopped.

Something was wrong.

The smile was too perfect. The eyes were wrong. Too dark. Too empty.

”You’re not him.”

The figure laughed, and the sound echoed endlessly across the white void.

”You’re learning.”

Its face shifted. For a heartbeat it was Kai. Then Finn. Then Luna. Then the older Kai. Then a stranger Adrian had never seen before. Finally, every feature vanished entirely.

The Reader.

Adrian raised the pen.

”What do you want?”

The Reader pointed at him and then toward the empty space behind him. Words appeared in the air.

YOU ARE THE MISTAKE.

Adrian stared at the sentence.

”Probably.”

The words vanished and reformed.

YOU WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE.

He looked down at the pen.

”Probably.”

Again the message changed.

YOU WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO CHOOSE.

This time Adrian smiled.

”Definitely.”

The Reader stopped moving.

Adrian’s smile disappeared.

”But I did.”

He lifted the pen.

”And I’m going to keep doing it.”

The white world trembled violently. The Reader lunged forward. Adrian moved faster. He pressed the pen against the empty air and wrote a single word.

RUN.

Reality obeyed.

Across the city, every window in Kai’s apartment exploded at once.

Glass shattered outward in a deafening wave. Luna cried out and ducked. Daniel threw himself behind the couch. Noah instinctively covered his head. Only Kai remained standing. His eyes were fixed on the wall where Adrian’s name glowed with brilliant white light.

ADRIAN.

A second word slowly appeared beneath it.

RUN.

Kai’s heart leapt.

”He’s alive.”

The stranger standing nearby nodded.

”Yes.”

Kai was already reaching for his jacket.

”Where is he?”

The stranger pointed toward the window.

Outside, every streetlight in the city had turned white. At the far end of the road stood a train resting silently in the middle of the street. It shouldn’t have existed, yet there it was. As they watched, its doors opened.

”That’s not normal,” Luna said.

Kai gave her a tired look.

”At this point, normal would scare me more.”

He headed for the door. Luna followed immediately.

”You’re going after him.”

”Yes.”

”Of course you are.”

Kai paused and looked at her.

”You don’t have to come.”

Luna’s expression hardened.

”Don’t say that.”

”Why?”

”Because every time you do,” she said quietly, ”it sounds like you’re saying goodbye.”

For a moment Kai didn’t know how to answer. Then Luna reached out and took his hand.

”You’re not going alone.”

Kai looked down at their joined hands before a small smile appeared.

”Okay.”

Daniel and Noah followed them outside. Behind them, the stranger remained in the apartment.

”Aren’t you coming?” Kai asked.

The stranger shook his head.

”No.”

”Why?”

His gaze settled on the glowing name still shining from the wall.

”Because someone has to stay here.”

”For what?”

”To make sure the story remembers him.”

Moments later, Kai boarded the train. Luna entered behind him, followed by Daniel and Noah. The doors closed automatically, and the train began moving through darkness. There was no conductor, no visible controls, and no indication of where they were headed. For several minutes, silence filled the carriage.

Eventually Daniel sighed and stared out the window.

”So... are we ever going to have a normal night again?”

”No.”

Daniel nodded thoughtfully.

”Okay. I appreciate the honesty.”

A quiet laugh escaped Noah, the first genuine laugh anyone had heard from him in hours. For a brief moment, the atmosphere almost felt normal.

Then the lights went out.

A familiar voice crackled through the speakers.

The older Kai.

”You’re going the wrong way.”

Kai looked up immediately.

”Where is Adrian?”

Silence answered him.

Then the voice returned.

”He’s where you left him.”

Kai’s expression hardened.

”I never left him.”

The older Kai laughed softly.

”That’s what you keep telling yourself.”

Beside him, Luna squeezed his hand. The train suddenly accelerated. Outside the windows, the darkness vanished completely.

The speaker crackled one final time.

”You wanted to know who wrote you, Kai?”

A chill ran through him.

”Ask your mother.”

Kai froze.

Luna looked at him in confusion.

”Your mother?”

But Kai barely heard her. A memory had surfaced. He had always dismissed it as a trick, another false fragment planted by the Reader. Now he remembered more.

A woman sitting at a desk.

A pen moving across paper.

A young boy standing beside her.

Her voice.

”Never write a character you aren’t prepared to love.”

Kai’s blood ran cold.

Because he finally remembered the rest.

She had never been talking about Adrian.

She had been talking about him.

The train entered a tunnel. A single light shone at the far end, illuminating a lone figure waiting beneath it.

Kai stared.

His mother stood there, watching the train approach.
