Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4991  Second Encounter, First Expedition

Davis was momentarily stunned.

As soon as he entered this strange space, Davis tried to survey using his soul sense, but it failed.

Secondly, he couldnʼt tell where he was, but felt this space was not foreign to him, making him think it was somewhere in his soul.

Thirdly, he could sense Fallen Heavenʼs emotions way better now that it had a spirit form.

It felt scared, angered, and even wronged. There was also a semblance of wanting to be admired and praised for its deed instead of being chided.

These emotions made him feel quite strange as he had thought Fallen Heaven was an infallible, grand artifact that had a quirk to imitate and speak ostentatiously, but now it seemingly possessed emotions that werenʼt that different from humans, magical beasts, spirits, and other races he had come across.

At the same time, he guessed that if he could sense someoneʼs emotions in this space, then his Enigmatic Heart Laws were active even here, except that he hadnʼt released Heart Intent, so it made his heart sink, making him wonder what this space truly was.

Did it belong to him or what? If it belonged to him, why wasnʼt he in control of it like he could be for his soul sea?

”Hey!~ Let me go!”

A childish voice emerged again from the inwardly spiraling black-white sphere, bringing Davis back to his senses.

”…”

Davis had black lines on his face.

”You are finally able to manifest as a spirit?”

”Yeah, is that a problem?”

”Why didnʼt you tell me? Did this happen right after I cleared my tribulation?” Davisʼs expression softened.

”No, it happened right after you cleared Natalyaʼs issue, but the transformation had already started after your tribulation.” Fallen Heaven cheekily said with a light laughter, but then faked a cough, ”What are you looking at? Let me go, or Iʼll devour you!”

”No, it happened right after you cleared Natalyaʼs issue, but the transformation had already started after your tribulation.” Fallen Heaven cheekily said with a light laughter, but then faked a cough, ”What are you looking at? Let me go, or Iʼll devour you!”

Davis… didnʼt let it go.

He brought the inwardly spiraling black-white sphere to his face and measured it with his piercing sapphire eyes, making Fallen Heaven tremble.

”Hey, we can talk about this… Okay, okay, Iʼm sorry. Itʼs my fault.”

”…”

Davis watched Fallen Heaven sound as though it was about to cry, its childish voice still causing him to feel uncomfortable and disoriented. He felt like he was suddenly dealing with a child and consequently, just berated a child.

Moreover, he could sense that Fallen Heaven was actually scared of him here.

ʼThis place…ʼ

Davis took his gaze off Fallen Heaven and looked around again.

In this place, Fallen Heaven seemed to have less control, and Fallen Heaven also appeared to have comprehended that, seemingly afraid for its life. It was unthinkable for a treasure of Fallen Heavenʼs caliber to even be at a stalemate, much less occupy the lesser position, making Davisʼs expression grave.

He took a step forward, walking opposite to the veil where he was still engaged in a passionate bout with Aila.

Fallen Heaven went silent upon seeing Davis make a move.

It gazed down his palm and saw his footsteps making ripples in the darkness and creating nothing.

Yet, Davis could see it.

As the ripples spread out, they transformed into certain scenes.

He saw a little boy dressed in fine imperial robes standing in front of his mother and confessing that he was a reincarnator.

He saw a little boy standing atop the gates of a city, targeting millions of soldiers who came to destroy the city, causing them to all die.

Davisʼs emotions churned.

With each step he took, echoes of the past visibly rippled out like he was walking on a strange journey into somewhere.

More and more illusory scenes emerged like the ones he saw before- all pointing to himself- all recognizable even in this encompassing darkness. But each scenes were all peculiar, showing moments where he made a firm decision. Moments where he made a stand.

Confessing to his mother Claire, was a do-or-die moment for him since he was willing to die if she decided to kill him in a burst of anger. At that point, he still remembered how life wasnʼt worth living without his motherʼs acknowledgment and even comprehended Enigmatic Heart Laws from it.

As for the ones where he killed millions, that was the moment he firmly decided to kill anyone, no matter how many may try to harm his family.

Each decision shaped his view. Each decision… shaped his-

ʼWill…ʼ Davisʼs emotions grew turbulent.

ʼThis place… is my… Will…ʼ

He panned his gaze around, finally thinking he had grasped the essence of this place.

ʼThe Realm of Will?ʼ

His spectral body shook as he arrived at this conclusion.

Where was this space? Inside the soul essence?

He felt like he must delve into the advanced aspects of the soul essence Yin Li and Fairy Thunderwraith imparted to him to understand where this space was located within his deepest depths.

ʼCould it be inside the soul imprint…!?ʼ Davis suddenly had a thought which made him shudder.

He quickly calmed down and continued to walk, seeing more illusory scenes of himself take a firm stand that kept cementing his Will.

… Using Fallen Heaven to kill Soul Emperor Hadrian Cross.

… Becoming the Divine Emperor of Death when chanted by the people of the First Haven World.

All of it, all of it flashed in the darkness.

He kept walking without a stop, seeing his life play out like he was watching a videotape of himself, when suddenly, he arrived at a point where he noticed a scene that he didnʼt recognize. It was extremely peculiar, making him hold his illusory breath.

… Standing atop a peak, with one hand grasping a jade fan and the other with a gourd and a seed, he-

”Donʼt look!” Abruptly, Fallen Heavenʼs childish voice echoed solemnly.

Davis was shaken out of his reverie as he turned to look at Fallen Heaven.

He vaguely suspected it, seeing the jade fan as well as the gourd and the seed belonging to Zenova. He narrowed his eyes at Fallen Heaven.

”You can also see these scenes?”

”No, all I see is darkness, but I can tell that you can see and that the memories I stole from you and locked are dispersing, meaning that youʼre at the critical junction of recalling them. Thatʼs bad for you.”

Davis nodded but still kept a frown, ”Even at my current stage and state?”

He was already an Empyrean, and whatʼs more, a Desolate Divergent. What more did he need to fear in terms of karmic burden?

It couldnʼt get any more ridiculous, right?

Fallen Heaven also paused, releasing an emotion of uncertainty.

”Maybe not, but you donʼt want to be riddled with this kind of karmic burden at the moment, but karmic burden isnʼt the only problem. There are too many unknowns, especially when you gaze at the abyss and see nothing but something was already gazing back at you without your knowledge. Donʼt you want to safeguard your family?”

”…”

Davis was speechless.

Although he wanted to see what went on in the Myria Coiling Spirit Peak that was utterly ruined, he supposed he agreed with Fallen Heaven.

At this point in life, he wanted to hide and build his strength, and, if time allowed, romance his wives as he was doing now.

Taking a look back, his lips twitched as he saw that he was still engaged without a care in the world, thoroughly charmed. He supposed Aila had him over his beck and call right now, able to command him anything, and he could feel that she was also aware of charming him, although whether she knew it instinctively after the fact or before was unknown.

In any case, he turned to look at Fallen Heaven and chuckled, becoming more and more convinced that this space was indeed the space where his Will resided.

”The World Masterʼs Will once yanked you out of my and Myriaʼs grasp. You also respond to Myriaʼs Will. So, as an artifact that hasnʼt reached its peak, you are still overwhelmed by Wills that you are compatible with. Typical of an artifact spirit indeed…”

Fallen Heavenʼs inward spiral suddenly spun diagonally as though it had just rolled its eyes.

”Sure, sure… stop analyzing me as you do for everything. Letʼs investigate this place. Itʼs giving me the creeps. Moreover, itʼs quite offending that I canʼt access and own this space like I own your soul. Ahh! Itʼs so frustrating that I canʼt set foot in this place without you coming here, even though I tried to come here before, after we first came here.”

”Oh, you did?” Davis raised his brows.

”Yes~”

Fallen Heaven harrumphed with a soft, screeching voice, seemingly peeved.

”…” Davis looked at Fallen heaven strangely, ”I need time to get used to your real voice.”

”Shut up! And let me go!”

”Nope. Itʼs reassuring to have you with me.”

Davis chuckled, and Fallen Heavenʼs emotions also visibly improved as its inward spiral became calm and composed, the stretches of lines and ripples around the sphere carrying endless secrets.

Carrying Fallen Heavenʼs spirit within his palm, Davis ventured into the darkness.

He didnʼt know how long he had walked.

The scenes kept appearing endlessly.

After finally seeing him make the decision not to kidnap Anastasia Archus and then resolve Natalyaʼs issue, as he had also basically challenged the heavens with his actions of finding Natalya, he finally stopped walking.

It was because he had seemingly reached the end, with no more ripples spreading, and scenes that cemented who he was as a person appearing in his view.

As he looked into the darkness, he was reminded of Fallen Heavenʼs words that it had just uttered. The saying, when you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you echoed in his mind, making his emotions rise and fall.

He more or less knew what he was going to meet here, making him take an illusory deep breath before he finally made the decision to step forward.

An immense ripple spread out, but no scenes appeared as though he had just made another decision that firmly cemented his Will.

In his sight, two strange objects appeared.

They nearly covered his entire view, perfectly matching the range of his vision. One was blinding, and the other was dark. These objects seemed to resemble moon gates, seemingly leading somewhere, but the appearance of these gates suddenly made Davis feel heavy pressure.

His Will finally reacted, mounting a counter as it pushed back against the strange foreign pressure.

”Hmph!”

Davis coldly harrumphed, ”What is this? A life gate and a death gate? If you want to play games, I donʼt think I can accompany you, Original Sin.”
