Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4950  The Desperation Of Two Little Souls

Arc slowly turned to look at Lydia.

Everything that didnʼt make sense- his motherʼs words to not investigate the matter, his fatherʼs strange tone, the reason he was made to bring Lydia here- finally made sense. Everything clicked like a puzzle that missed the last piece, greatly horrifying him.

His eyes went wide with alarm, not hesitating to believe the far-fetched idea of Lydia being a reincarnator.

A week ago, Father had just revealed that he was a reincarnator to Class Three, and Class Two also got to know about this matter, so he was also perfectly aware of what it means to find a reincarnator in the home and the protocols one must follow when coming face to face with them.

Lydiaʼs expression shook, but she clenched her teeth, having determined herself to confess since time was ticking.

”I donʼt mean any harm. I…” Lydiaʼs lips quivered, ”I was a priestess from the Starshroud Fami-”

”Shhh!”

Arc immediately reached out with his palm and closed Lydiaʼs mouth, greatly alarming her, making her think Arc had turned hostile. However, she was still aware that he was a mortal and couldnʼt do anything. Their faces were so close, and he looked at her with eyes of distress, making her go silent.

”Do not say anything. Are you insane? Why would you say this to me at this moment?” He slowly took back his palm and grabbed her shoulders.

Lydiaʼs eyes turned moist, ”Because Iʼm going to leave.”

”What do you mean by leave?” Arc trembled as he spoke in a hushed voice, his gaze quivering, ”You arenʼt going to commit… suicide… are you?”

”…”

Lydia bit her lips, tears steaming out of her eyes.

Arc shuddered, his expression filled with anguish. He turned to look up and to the exit before he grabbed her hand.

”Just follow me…”

Arc turned back, heading down the stone stairs as he pulled her.

”Are you going to bring me to Father?”

”Theyʼre above.”

”…!” Lydiaʼs heart jumped as she froze, causing Arc to be yanked.

He turned around and held her shoulders, his expression furious as he clenched his teeth.

”You canʼt commit suicide. Iʼll bring you outside with big brother Lucianʼs help, so escape. I have millions of High-Level Transcendent Crystals since my mother wanted to cheer me up, and Iʼll give you all my defensive treasures.”

Lydia looked at him with hopelessness, ”Itʼs impossible…”

”We wonʼt know until we try…!”

Arc roared in a hushed tone, trying to pull her, but Lydia shook her head.

There was no way out. She was aware that her father and mother wouldʼve closed the sanctuary, and she had seen Ancestor Dian Alstreim and Mother Mingzhi talk. Even though they were talking about marriages loudly, she didnʼt think it was limited to that. Now, her suspicions were basically confirmed when she heard that they were above in Mother Fioraʼs house, waiting for them to appear.

”Please… I donʼt want you to die… You canʼt take my little sister away from me…” Arcʼs eyes turned moist, practically begging as he clasped his hands.

”No, I…” Lydiaʼs tears streamed heavily as she grasped his hands, ”Iʼm your sister. I love you the most, big brother. I donʼt want to leave you…”

”Then listen to me…! As long as I can get you outside, I can convince father to leave you alive in the time we get! Please…!”

”…” Lydia silently shed tears, wanting to shake her head, yet she also wanted to believe him.

If her brother had said something, he would always strived to fulfill it.

Suddenly, she didnʼt know what to do, feeling helpless and limp when Arc grabbed her hand again and brought her down the stone stairs before nearing the courtyardʼs moon gate.

Abruptly, they came to a stop, their expressions changing.

In front of them was a black-robed, black-veiled woman. Her black hair swayed in the wind, making her appear like a transcendental fairy, but she was no different than a deadly reaper that they heard in stories.

Mingzhi eyed them with a faint smile, ”Where are you two going?”

”…” Arc hid Lydia behind him in a panic, his body turning cold.

Lydia quickly made some hand signs behind him, on the verge of activating her reincarnation technique with two more hand signs. She bit her lips, scared to death as she viewed Mother Mingzhi from the space between Arcʼs arm sleeve.

She recalled how they had met on the stone stairs before. Mother Mingzhiʼs eyes… the way she looked at her… everything made sense.

Mother Mingzhi always knew.

Mingzhi giggled, ”Look at you two, your faces all wet with tears. You two bullied each other and were afraid of getting punished? But who cares? Mother Mingzhi wonʼt capture you. Still, arenʼt you going to Natalyaʼs recovery celebration party held above? Itʼs a small celebration since we donʼt want to affect everyoneʼs cultivation routine. We have prepared a nice surprise for her. Donʼt play too much and forget to attend the celebration.”

She walked towards them but didnʼt stop, continuing to walk past them before raising her hand and waving at them.

”Otherwise… someone is going to get beatings for aiding someone miss the celebration.”

Arc and Lydia watched Mother Mingzhi ascend the stone stairs sassily before heading up to the house, her silhouette finally leaving their vision.

*Gasp~*

They suddenly breathed out, gasping heavily as they looked at each other. Their eyes met, going through all kinds of thoughts before Arc pulled her.

”Letʼs go.”

He walked to exit but felt yanked, unable to move Lydia.

Lydiaʼs gaze turned cold, ”They dare to hold you hostage. I want to see what kind of plans they have in store for me!”

”You-” Arc was about to convince her, but got yanked into the courtyard as they made their way up.

”Wait. Are you crazy? They might have formations designed specifically to trap you…” Arc tried to stop her, but Lydia was too powerful. Her aura had also considerably changed, exuding a great pressure as she looked pissed beyond compare.

It seemed like her pride of being a priestess had been provoked.

”Mmph, I want to see them have the ability to stop my reincarnation.”

Each step she took made the air around her tremble, causing Arc to be speechless.

Before he knew it, they had already made their way up the stone stairs and appeared in front of the entrance to the mansion.

Arc couldnʼt understand why Lydia flipped one-eighty when she had been intending to escape, when he suddenly realized.

ʼThis… this is Mother Mingzhiʼs Charm Laws…!ʼ

They had been viewing Mother Mingzhi walk up the stairs, their gaze firmly on her back, when they became passively charmed! If he was right, Mother Mingzhi activated the charm when he and Lydia looked at each otherʼs eyes, growing their sense of protection over the other, although his own had been overcome by Lydiaʼs intent to protect him.

However, his realization came late.

They had entered the mansion.

*Bang!~*

Lydia also came out of her reverie, her expression and body freezing as she found herself in the mansion, followed by a deadly sound.

Her soul swayed, fearing that she had been struck when she heard the sounds of clapping.

”Haha! Congratulations on recovering from your sickness, Natalya!” Davis clapped his hands with a big smile, followed by Fiora, Ellia, Mingzhi, Eden, and a few others like Evelynn, Isabella, and Shirley.

”Congratulations~”

”Welcome back, my dear idiotic sister~” Mingzhi giggled, also clapping.

Fiora was the first one to cut the huge cake made from dubious milk before feeding Natalya, causing her to giggle before relishing the delicacy.

It felt like it had been centuries since she tasted a cake because her sense of taste had been taken away.

”…”

The atmosphere was festive, and bright lanterns accompanied the corners of the scene, making the gleam in Lydiaʼs pupils lessen as her alarm was greatly reduced, making her wonder if she was stuck in an illusion or if it was really a party that she was invited to.

”W-Whatʼs going on?” She couldnʼt help but blurt out.

”Isnʼt that obvious?” Ellia turned to look at her, ”Go congratulate Mother Natalya for her recovery~”

”…”
