Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4965  Trying Their Best

”…”

Claire was perplexed but then remembered that Evan and Laura were also at the Peak-Level Immortal Emperor Stage, only inches away from reaching the Empyrean Stage like her brothers Edward and Ernest.

”Do you want to tutor them personally?” She asked expectantly as she sat by his side.

”…”

Davis turned speechless.

Tutor them for what? Just because he took Tia, he was an expert in that kind of relationship now?

”You mean their cultivation?” He gained some clarity a moment later.

Claire giggled lightly, ”Yes, what did you think I meant? Evan and Laura were a part of Class One along with Eterna and the others. Theyʼre waiting to receive your guidance before they step into the Empyrean Stage. Evan practices wind, and Laura practices lightning, which your comprehension of both are also high. You saw how their temperaments plainly exposed their powers, right? You should go help them, but of course, only when you have time. You cannot dismiss or ignore your own cultivation.”

”Mother, I understand that the three of you- you, father and Mother Nora are busy with cultivation recently after finally watching them grow into adults. Alice is also now nearly seventeen years old, so it has finally allowed you to step to the side and resume your cultivation. Iʼm glad you can now catch up to Father and Mother Nora. However, I donʼt really like how they left you behind. I must chastise them later on. Still, thereʼs no need to worry, mother. I am here with you, and all the resources you need to have for your cultivation are always free. Moreover-”

”My son, what are you trying to say?” Claire blinked, ”Why are you so hesitant? Iʼve rarely ever seen you like this…”

”…” Davisʼs voice was stuck in his throat.

Even he felt second-hand embarrassment and some guilt, feeling like he hadnʼt taken care of his siblings as much as he could have.

First, he wanted to reassure his mother that this wasnʼt her fault. However, his roundabout way of saying things really did catch her attention as she now looked at him with a look of suspicion.

He felt like he would only make things worse if he continued to make her worry, so after shutting the door with a wave of his hand, he swiftly grabbed his motherʼs hand.

”Mother, I-”

”My son, no, you canʼt be like this…!”

Claire shut her eyes, threw his hands, and pushed his head back, causing Davis to be dumbfounded.

He disappeared and reappeared a few meters away, looking at her with a confused gaze before it turned into one of hurt. He slowly sat down again and intertwined his fingers in front of his face before he sighed lightly, his expression turning bleak.

He remained silent, and his presence appeared rather heavy, finally causing Claire to open her eyes and search for him as her trembling came to a stop. When she saw how he looked, her heart writhed with pain as she realized she had acted hastily.

”My son… I…”

”I know…” Davis raised his head, his expression turning normal before revealing a wry smile, ”I shouldnʼt have made certain decisions, crossed certain boundaries… and now, even my own mother has lost trust in my character in this regard…”

”No, itʼs not like that!” Claire reached out her hand before she hurriedly closed the distance and hugged him from the side, ”I was wrong… Itʼs a misunderstanding… You closed the door on me without any warning and held my hand with an unexpected fervor…”

Davis admitted, ”Yes, I canʼt have you panicking… and kicking up a storm… that would be bad-”

”…” Claire.

”…” Davis.

”Wait… that didnʼt come out right.” He palmed his face, ”Fine, fine… I was wrong for closing the door quicker than lightning. The thing is… Evan and Laura are in a questionable relationship.”

”…” Claire slowly tried to calm down. She couldnʼt quite understand the last part, so she used the last of her brain cells that were still hastily trying to comfort Davis from her mistake to process the information when she suddenly realized.

Her heart sank instantly as her bosoms rose. She took a deep breath, trying to hold Davis firmly amidst her shivering.

”How questionable…?”

Davisʼs expression turned solemn, ”Very questionable. Deeply questionable. Outright questionable.”

”…!” Claire nearly jumped.

This was outrageous, causing her to look at him with anger etched on her brow.

”You… do you have evidence…?”

”No, but I checked with my powers. No one can really hide their emotions from me, and to tell the truth, neither their true relationship with someone. Even the slightest hint of feeling etched in your heart for someone is scribbled on the threads of karma.”

”…” Claireʼs expression twitched and increasingly turned worse before she stood up.

”How dare th-”

Davis hurriedly sprang up to grab her mouth from behind and seal it before he used life energy to calm her down. He didnʼt use Enigmatic Heart Laws, as that would manipulate her emotions instead. He let her go through her emotions, knowing this would happen since Claire was the type to show her emotions on her face and burst out like a volcano.

He felt Laura was also similar in this regard, although she was Logan and Noraʼs child.

Suddenly, Davis felt his hand turn wet.

His mother was crying now, making his heart churn with sorrow.

She sobbed in his palm, nearly screaming as she was full of self-reproach for not averting this kind of relationship between Evan and Laura.

Davis slowly made her sit down and comforted her by holding her hands firmly. She pounced towards him, crying on his shoulder, unable to stop her trembling.

”I knew… I always knew they were close… but I didnʼt expect… they would really take it that far…”

Davis caressed his motherʼs head softly, ”Thereʼs nothing we could do after theyʼve done it.”

”Why!?”

Claire cried out loud, causing Davis to put up a sound barrier. He knew he shouldʼve done this first, for heavenʼs sake.

Eventually, Claire managed to calm down somewhat. She moved her head back and took her handkerchief to wipe the tears from Davisʼs robe.

”Itʼs fine, mother.”

Claire nodded lightly before she asked, ”Did you… Did you tell this to your father and Nora?”

”No, I didnʼt.”

”They canʼt know. Otherwise, Evan will be killed by the two of them.” Claire looked horrified.

Evan was also her son. How could she not care?

”Ma, the way I see it, Laura was the one who possibly seduced him since I saw a great deal of possessiveness from her, not that it takes away any wrongdoing from Evan, but I dare say Evan didnʼt start it. He might be shy yet ambitious enough to want to defeat me, but isnʼt the type to cross our familyʼs teachings, right?”

”Yes, yes… It must be Laura. She always had the tendency to rush and break the rules. There was even an incident where she had slapped an Alstreim Family girl who acted like she was above Evan when she tried to tell him that he was nothing in front of his brother, the Divine Emperor of Death. Still, it doesnʼt matter. How should we separate them?” In the end, Claire held him as she begged with her eyes, her voice desperate.

”…” Davis pursed his lips, appearing to remain silent.

”…” Claire looked as though she was going to cry again, ”How come you have no idea?”

”I really donʼt. Their bond is quite strong, young adults who would die for each other. It mustʼve been going on for a few years, perhaps the last two years. Mother, you tell me if I should kill them both or seal their memories of the happenings, but eventually, theyʼre going to find out, and it would still be a disaster.”

”…”

Tears welled up in Claireʼs eyes even as she tried to suppress them.

Just when she had thought that they had grown into respectable adults, they had committed a taboo and acted like everything was normal, even discussing marriage with them earlier in the dining table as though they werenʼt ready and still wanted to cultivate which was fine and better for oneʼs future but who knew both lost their primal yin and primal yang until Davis revealed it to her today.

They both lost their future prospects, both in terms of fulfillment and cultivation, especially Laura, since her part of the Alstreim Family and the current Loret Family did have the ritual to make the bride wear the karmic robe that checks oneʼs primal yin as the wedding robe.

Not wearing it was basically saying ʼI am not chaste.ʼ

Evan aside, it just became ten times more difficult for Laura to get married in the future, but Claireʼs worries extended beyond that.

What if they separated Evan and Laura? Would they not find a way to leave and establish themselves later elsewhere?

Considering Davis said that their bond was deep, she didnʼt doubt him at all and was extremely worried that separating them would only embolden them to continue their relationship and even cause a scar that would make them leave the family.

She didnʼt know what to do at all. She felt both scared and enraged, making her want to smash her own head into some wall in order to think clearly.

”Well, leave it to me, mother.”

”Do you have something in mind? It doesnʼt matter how small it is…”

”No, but I think they wonʼt run. They know I will come to know since they are already aware that I have Heart Intent. The children from Class One all are. Even when we dined earlier, their eyes never wavered as though they were already prepared. It made me want to slap them, but fortunately, other siblings were there for me to focus on them. Itʼs really been a long time since we gathered together, nostalgia filling my soul and saving those two brats.”

Davis chuckled coldly, causing Claire to finally smile a bit.

She recalled the time when he had her and Logan fight, causing her to pinch his cheeks.

”Donʼt go overboard. If you fail to bring an acceptable conclusion, thatʼs also fine. Just drop them somewhere outside our estate. Iʼll disown them.”

Davis knew his mother was lying over the disown part, causing him to shake his head, since the chances are she would likely imprison them for who knows how long until one or the other changes their minds.

He felt like his mother would never let go.

”Iʼll try my best.” He said with a renewed perspective and turned around to leave.
