Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4980  Rosy Cotton Rabbits

Their eyes were full of cognizance yet dull, making Ailaʼs joyful expression suddenly recede.

These werenʼt savage beasts nor feral beasts but magical beasts with intelligence no different than humans. She knew that in farms like this, there were measures in place to curb the intelligence of these magical beasts by feeding them soul-crippling medicines that would cause their ability to speak and think properly to be greatly reduced, even to a state of being crippled.

This was even more so in the case of magical beasts that were reared only for the purpose of securing meat.

On the other hand, the earlier beasts that were mentioned, such as the Golden Horned War Rams, Gale Whisper Lynxes, and Azure Feather Skyrays, werenʼt fed that much soul-crippling medicines since they could be used for battling and other purposes.

”No matter where it is… the Rosy Cotton Rabbits are fated to be captured, bred and then driven to extinction out of human greed for their meat…”

Aila uttered, her voice low like that of a mosquito.

Davis sensed the sadness emerging from her, and it affected him more than the caretaker beside them could think.

The caretaker quickly responded, ”Ah, these are just the ones for butchering. If you require one to be a pet or a personal mount, weʼre very sorry since two of them were just bought out a month ago by the imperial family for a high price, causing those rabbits to be out of stock.”

”…”

Aliaʼs gaze flickered.

ʼYeah, those ones are already cooked…ʼ Davis inwardly thought before he shot a look at the caretaker.

If he kept making Aila sad, then he felt like he might punch his face lightly.

The caretaker sensed Davisʼs gaze and held his breath. He quickly explained, ”Haha, itʼs difficult to nurture the Rosy Cotton Rabbits. If we nurture them properly, they tend to seduce the nurturer instead in an attempt to devour them, making it a mess for us. Hence, we never nurture them for the purpose of selling them as a pet or a mount unless we get an order. Respected customers, would you like to order a few?”

”No need. One is enough.”

Aila raised her hand and pointed at a Rosy Cotton Rabbit while lowering her head, not even intending to look at which one she was pointing at, as her arm wobbled and settled at one.

”Wait…”

Davis wrapped his arm around Aila, making her turn to look at him.

”It isnʼt written that you only need to choose one, so why are you buying only one?”

”…?” Aila blinked.

”Who are you, Aila? Youʼre my wife. Even without me, youʼre an Empyrean. If you want those rabbits, just buy them all. If you donʼt have the wealth, just thrash this farm since these rabbits have your bloodline; just say they belong to you, not in a farm. That alone is enough reason, just like you would wish to save fellow humans from being enslaved.”

Aila was stunned, but on the other hand, the caretaker was trembling in his boots.

”…” An Empyrean? This pretty fairy who looked like a young girl with her short height?

This blonde-haired dude must be kidding, right?

The caretaker forced a laugh, but it came out dry.

”Esteemed guest… you must be joking…”

His gaze flickered between Davis and Aila, trying to find even the slightest hint of exaggeration or deception, but what he saw instead was indifference.

Davis did not repeat himself. He simply looked at Aila.

Ailaʼs lips parted slightly as she turned her gaze back toward the field.

The Rosy Cotton Rabbits had gathered closer without them realizing it. One by one, they hopped near, their soft bodies forming a loose circle around her behind the fence. Their noses twitched, their rose-colored eyes reflecting her figure.

They werenʼt expecting anything from her, but were just curious why they also had her bloodline.

”All of them?”

Aila slowly clenched her fists.

Her voice was soft, even uncertain, but Davis just smiled.

Aila licked her lips, ”Then I want to buy all of them.”

”All!?”

The caretaker looked dumbfounded and turned to look at Davis for confirmation, but Aila continued.

”Even the ones that are to be used later for breeding. I hereby place a ban on breeding Rosy Cotton Rabbits. If you continue to do so- then…”

Aila reached out her hand and clenched her fist at the caretaker.

It was so comical that it nearly made him burst out laughing since this fairy was so cute and sounded even more cute, but for some reason, he couldnʼt control his shivering. Although this fairy before him displayed no signs of her cultivation, he had no interest in checking it out.

As long as they could pay, he would be fine with it.

His mind raced.

This was no longer a normal transaction.

This was either an opportunity… or a disaster.

”…If… if you want all twenty-eight… including their current cultivation maintenance costs, feeding expenses, formation upkeep… and then considering future profits…”

He hesitated, then gritted his teeth.

”…three hundred million High-Level Immortal Crystals… and one billion High-Level Immortal Crystals for the ban on further use…?”

The caretaker just carelessly threw out a number based on an easy math configuration in his head, as his experience in overseeing the stable and keeping a lookout on the other ranches. He didnʼt even have the full rights to agree to such a deal.

Silence fell at his statement.

Ailaʼs eyes widened. Even she felt that the number was absurd.

This wasnʼt just expensive but daylight robbery.

Davis, however, merely flicked his sleeve again.

Another spatial ring flew out.

”Check.”

The caretaker caught it instinctively.

His hands trembled as his senses entered the ring.

The next moment, his breathing stopped. Not only was there enough, but there was more, far more for him to hide this transaction and run to someplace far from here.

His vision went black for a split second.

When he came back to himself, he immediately bowed so low his forehead nearly touched the ground.

”E-esteemed… no… honored guests…! Please forgive this oneʼs ignorance!”

His voice shook. At this point, even a fool would understand.

These two… were not people he could afford to offend even if he had ten lives.

Davis did not care about his reaction.

He turned his attention back to Aila.

”…Go on.”

Aila stood there for a moment. Then slowly… she smiled. It was not the playful smile from before, but something softer and warmer, filled with kindness and affection.

”…Then Iʼll take responsibility for them.”

She stepped forward.

The Rosy Cotton Rabbits reacted instantly.

They rushed toward her, surrounding her, brushing against her arms, their soft fur pressing against her as though they had finally found something they had been longing for and felt safe. The calming energy suddenly radiating from Aila made the rabbits fall head over heels for her.

However, the caretaker was overwhelmed and terrified.

ʼAn Empyrean…!ʼ
