Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4049  Convening After A Defeat

In one of the grand palaces in the Eternal Twilight Lower Realm.

There were a lot of people who were gathered at the behest of someone. It was a person whom they wouldnʼt offend out of the respect in their hearts, much less dare.

Above the stage, there were a few grand characters gathered.

They were the incumbent heads of the three strong Heavenʼs Warrior Organizations, including Empyrean Miller Skyrend, who had been previously suspected of being turned into a sleeper puppet for the Divine Emperor of Death and was restricted for a while.

It seemed like the suspicions were finally dropped since he could stand here. Among them, there were also a few Realm Masters, including the Eternal Twilight Lower Realmʼs Realm Master and the neighboring realmʼs Realm Masters.

There were a lot of murmurs and soul transmissions.

They seemed to be restless.

They were all waiting for a while when suddenly they all went on one knee without the slightest hesitation.

”The Supreme One enters the Eternal Painting Palace~”

After the voice of the palace guard, a white-robed man flew into the palace and headed straight towards the stage.

When he landed, he greeted the ones on the stage by cupping his hands, and they also returned the gesture and stood up silently

The Supreme One then turned to look at the crowd, his lips curling in amusement. He could sense they were confused and disturbed, but no one seemed brave enough to question him.

He lightly smiled, ”Everyone, Iʼm sure you have a lot of questions about my actions, even feeling disturbed as it may have shaken your convictions.”

”…”

The Heavenʼs Warriors raised their heads, their expressions doubtful or full of respect.

Almost everyone here knew that it had been ten days since the Divine Emperor of Death formed the covenant with the Supreme One. It wasnʼt exactly public knowledge, but those who were assigned to hunting the Divine Emperor of Death down knew of it, and it spread among many powerful people.

However, they werenʼt sure why the Supreme One did this. His ways were always enigmatic to them, and this time, they felt he went and did something beyond their comprehension and morals.

To form a covenant with an Anarchic Divergent not only went against their teachings but chilled them to the core. They have always maintained a firm stance against Divergents, but this might form a crack in their ranks, not to mention anger in the heavens.

How the Supreme One did this was beyond them. If it werenʼt for the heavenly aura and countless achievements to his name, they would already start suspecting him to be a new Divergent who could emulate the heavenly aura and deceive them.

”Good. That is good.” The Supreme One chuckled lightly, ”To doubt your superiorʼs intentions is good. For Heavenʼs Warriors, they go as far as to sacrifice their lives to listen to their superiors and fulfill their mission. However, no one had asked for what reason and what causes other than to follow a tradition of killing Divergents so that the universe may remain safe from harm. The motive itself isnʼt wrong, but blindly following a firm stance without flexibility would only lead to the world becoming a more frightful place. Forget the calamities. You need to be afraid of yourself for causing harm to the common people unknowingly.”

”In that case, how different are you from the Divergents?”

”…”

Many Heavenʼs Warriorsʼ expressions changed. It seemed that they seemed to have a hint of what the Supreme One was talking about.

In the pursuit of killing Divergents, they rarely considered the weight of other lives and caused a lot of collateral damage. Each time, they convinced themselves it was better than letting the Divergent escape and cause more causalities, and it eventually became an unconscious bias that they couldnʼt shake off.

As a result, the normal people didnʼt fear to respect them but feared to avoid them, almost as though they were… villains.

Still, it didnʼt necessarily hamper their efforts to kill Divergents, so they didnʼt have the time nor strength to put some effort into changing that perception.

”It seems like everyone has a sore point that they find in themselves. Thatʼs great. It says that youʼre all still humans, not much different from normal cultivators.”

The Supreme One nodded, ”Now, letʼs get to the point. In this crusade against the Divergents stemming from that realm, you all only managed to kill a Thunder Divergent and then throw all the efforts on eliminating the Divine Emperor of Death yet still failed miserably.”

”…”

The Heavens Warriorsʼ expressions changed. They lowered their heads since they were aware that Autarch Elluro Coldwing failed and was possibly sent out to the void for overdoing it in the Lower Realms. Nonetheless, not only did they fail, but they also got caught as they failed to die. They became prisoners.

It was an unbearable humiliation.

Some of them who were caught were also here. They couldnʼt even raise their heads properly from the beginning, feeling intense shame.

They felt like they caused the Supreme One to compromise for their lives. It was a steep sin deserving of death.

”After that, he hid himself from the public eye and even our Mystic Diviners and took the crusade all hostages. Did it bind our hands? No. Then why did I grant him the covenant and not kill him? There are a lot of reasons, but the main one is that he is an Anarchic Divergent who doesnʼt wish for bloodshed like most of them do. We canʼt push him there by ourselves, but if we did push him, then it would have to be a lightning attack that kills him and his fellow Divergents all in one stroke. To let him or the others go after making a big move would only fuel their fire and spread calamities throughout the Lower Realms, endangering more people.”

”As the matter stands, we still canʼt find him nor end him in one move since he must be capable of reviving himself. From this, we can understand that the Divine Emperor of Death has become nearly unkillable in the Lower Realms. Perhaps we may find him the next day or nine months later, but I fear by that time, he would really become unkillable and a malevolent menace, unlike he is now where he wishes for peace. Hence, to seal a devil from becoming a fiend and give you all the chance to prove yourselves from your failures, I have restricted him with the covenant and also hope to use the covenant to end him.”

”…!” The Heavenʼs Warriors felt shaken.

In essence, the covenant wasnʼt all concession. It was also a deadly contract where if the Divine Emperor of Death made one wrong move, his soul would shatter and scatter, disallowing him to revive even if he could revive.

All they had to do was sacrifice one life. If he even so far as gravely harms a single one of them and they commit suicide at the same time, it would become his fault, leading to his demise.

In other words, the Supreme One gave them the easiest task of all time!
