I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 699, Forest Encounter

Translator: Silavin

Dark clouds gathered overhead, looking as though it was going to rain again, with everything appearing dark and oppressive.

If the Flame Dragon Tribe were not living well now, this sort of weather would probably make people feel quite depressed.

*Step step step…*

Ye Jiu’s satchel contained many Shaman Bone Tablets, all of which were Su Bai’s latest developments. She had been specifically instructed to come out and test these Shaman Bone Tablets, completely alone.

Her expression was particularly solemn, not daring to relax in the slightest, as she had already entered deep into the forest.

This journey had no other Totem Warriors to help her watch the surroundings; she could only rely on herself to observe the environment.

Yan Jiao had surveyed all the people in the Tribe at the time and found that only Ye Jiu was most suitable.

Ye Jiu’s strength ranked among the top in the current Flame Dragon Tribe, making her most suitable for executing this mission.

“I hope it’s successful.” Ye Jiu took out a Shaman Bone Tablet to examine it.

She knew this mission was extremely dangerous, with a very real possibility of losing her life, so she could not afford to be careless.

The wolf eared girl was seeing this type of Shaman Bone Tablet design for the first time; the patterns on it were quite peculiar. The entire Shaman Bone Tablet felt different from previous ones when touched, having some sort of distinctive sensation within it.

*Rustle rustle…* Ye Jiu kept jumping between tree trunks, trying to find the most suitable target.

She would not choose beasts that were too large, and certainly would not choose Ferocious Beasts that were dangerous to make contact with.

In any case, the first target she tackled had to be one she could handle; only this way could she properly test the Shaman Bone Tablet.

Of course, she also could not choose those that were too docile, otherwise they would naturally be unafraid of people, making it difficult to see any difference even after using the Shaman Bone Tablet.

“I’ll choose to stay here. The trees here are quite tall, and I can see much more.” Ye Jiu stood on a rather tall tree.

This tree was considerably taller than the surrounding ones, particularly with its sprawling branches, giving her many more places to stand.

Ye Jiu constantly surveyed the surrounding environment. From time to time, quite a few beasts passed by, but none were her target.

Naturally, there were also many Ferocious Beasts that caught her scent, and she could only hide first.

“That one will do.” Ye Jiu said coldly.

She spotted a wolf not far away. It was a Mix Blood Ferocious Beast called a Two Tailed Grey Wolf.

Perhaps because she herself was a part wolf Demi-Human, seeing the Two Tailed Grey Wolf stirred a psychological desire to try it out.

“It’s up to you now.” Ye Jiu gripped the Shaman Bone Tablet in her hand, preparing to flip down from the tree.

*Rustle rustle…*

Her agile movements kept jumping back and forth in the tree, constantly making rustling sounds.

The Two Tailed Grey Wolf on the ground also sensed something was wrong, lifting its head and lowering its brow to observe the location making the noise.

*Thud!* Ye Jiu flipped and landed on the ground, gripping the Shaman Bone Tablet tightly to prevent the other party from seeing it.

She brushed aside her scattered grey hair and asked softly, “You’ve separated from your pack, haven’t you?”

Wolves were pack animals that generally moved together; without special circumstances, there would not be a lone wolf.

There were only two reasons for solitary action: either being expelled from the pack, or leaving on one’s own.

There were many reasons for leaving on one’s own. Either a female wolf was pregnant and had to leave, because only the alpha wolf’s mate was allowed to bear offspring in the pack. In that case, all other females were forbidden from breeding; even if they gave birth to pups, they would be bitten to death.

Besides this, it was also possible that the wolf disapproved of the alpha wolf’s actions and wanted to leave the pack.

“Awoo awoo…” The Two Tailed Grey Wolf kept making low, deep howling sounds, its grey eyes staring directly at the wolf eared girl.

Its body also began to slowly crouch down. At this moment, it dared not act rashly. It was no longer in the pack.

This time there were no wolves to help; everything had to rely on itself. However, it also felt that the person before it was very different.

Perhaps it was the pair of wolf ears on the other party’s head, and the long grey wolf tail behind them.

These characteristics were very similar to its own, and it could also sense that the other party had no malicious intent.

The Two Tailed Grey Wolf had been particularly cautious at first, even quite fierce, but after gradually sensing the difference, it was not as fierce as before.

“That’s right, I’m not here to harm you.” Ye Jiu nodded. She began to crouch down and extend one hand, showing that she had no malicious intent whatsoever.

She placed the weapon from her body on the ground and pushed it aside, pushing it to a place she could not reach.

The wolf eared girl trusted this Two Tailed Grey Wolf. Seeing that the other party was not so cautious either, she could not keep holding her weapon at the ready.

She also had to let the Two Tailed Grey Wolf sense that she had no malicious intent; this way, using the Shaman Bone Tablet would be much simpler.

*Awoo awoo…* The Two Tailed Grey Wolf’s howling was not as hostile anymore, but it began to become somewhat like a whimper.

This seemed like it had not eaten its fill for a long time, or had been suffering attacks and torment from other Ferocious Beasts.

Upon seeing the wolf eared girl, the Two Tailed Grey Wolf somehow suddenly felt relieved.

It felt as though the other party would not harm it, and also felt that the other party might be able to help.

“Are you hungry, or injured somewhere?” This thought came to Ye Jiu’s mind upon hearing the cry.

Without a word, she took out a piece of meat from her personal Animal Hide Bag and threw the dried meat in front of the Two Tailed Grey Wolf.

“Eat quickly. Looking at your build, you’ve gotten quite thin. You must be hungry, right?” Ye Jiu became uncharacteristically gentle.

The previous wolf eared girl had always been quite cold; seeing her so tender now was a first.

*Sniff sniff sniff…* The Two Tailed Grey Wolf brought its nose close to smell, constantly making heavy breathing sounds, but ultimately chose not to eat.

Although it was now starving, it did not dare casually eat food given by Humans. It was better to be cautious.

Ye Jiu saw the Two Tailed Grey Wolf’s caution and said nothing, but also took out a piece of dried meat and began gnawing on it.

She was trying to tell the other party that this dried meat was not poisoned, that she was eating it herself, so it could eat with confidence.

*Sniff sniff sniff…* The Two Tailed Grey Wolf smelled it again, then began wolfing it down, finishing that piece of dried meat in a couple of bites.

“That’s right. Do you want to eat more?” Ye Jiu took out another piece of dried meat from her bag.

Since she had just left today, there was still plenty of dried meat in her bag. If today’s experiment was successful, she could return to the Tribe immediately.

*Chomp chomp…* The Two Tailed Grey Wolf ate the second piece of meat without hesitation, this time eating with much more peace of mind.

Its wolf tail also began swaying involuntarily, clearly showing that it was gradually accepting the wolf eared girl.

[I can prepare to try the Shaman Bone Tablet now.] Ye Jiu thought to herself.

She had observed all of the Two Tailed Grey Wolf’s changes. This time, not having to expend much effort in this test was a boon for her.
