Chapter 655, The Clingy Peak Eagle

Translator: Silavin

Under the dark Moon and fierce winds, Yan Hua and the others had already arrived near the area above the Sea Fish Tribe.

However, to avoid being discovered by them, the hot air balloon had risen very high, maintaining a considerable distance from the ground.

“Can you see it? That’s the place.” Co Co pointed excitedly at the area below.

Co Co had not slept well these past two days, and the closer they got to the Sea Fish Tribe, the worse it became.

Her heart kept churning with emotion. Returning to one’s stolen birthplace inevitably brought such feelings.

“I can see it, thanks to the bonfires they’ve lit.” Yan Hua was looking through a telescope.

This was also one of their finest pieces of equipment; without it, looking down from such a height would only reveal a pitch-black expanse.

“That large wooden house in the centre used to be where the Shaman lived, and now it should be occupied by their Shaman.”

Co Co pointed to another wooden house and continued. “That one should be where the Chieftain lives.”

The direction of the wooden houses had not changed much, at most there were just a few additional wooden houses added to the outer region of the Tribe.

Seeing the scene below still matched her memories, Co Co guessed that the Sea Insect Tribe had probably arranged things in the same way.

The wooden house in the centre was the largest, certainly reserved for the Shaman or the Chieftain to live in, while the slightly larger wooden houses were definitely for the Totem Warriors.

“I understand. There are only eight people on patrol, so it won’t be too difficult to deal with them.” Yan Hua put away the binoculars.

*Screech!*

A crisp bird call rang out, and Yan Hua quickly patted the creature on the head.

The bird that had just called out was one Yan Hua had brought along, which she had encountered while hunting last night.

It was an eagle with an entirely brownish-black body, called a Peak Eagle, whose appearance was quite similar to eagles from Earth.

However, the only difference was that it looked more robust in build, with particularly spirited brown eyes.

It did not seem too large, like a little bird in its juvenile phase, just the right size to perch on one’s shoulder.

This type of wild beast was uncommon, almost impossible to encounter in the forest, yet Yan Hua miraculously came across it last night.

This Peak Eagle had been injured, its body caught amongst tree branches, continuously crying out in pain.

That night, the sounds Yan Hua and Ai’er had heard were made by this creature.

After rescuing it and using a Shaman Bone Tablet on it, it had been clinging to Yan Hua ever since.

Even tonight, when they came to attack the Sea Insect Tribe, it insisted on flying alongside them no matter what.

“Don’t let its calls alert them.” Sha Lan immediately became tense.

Fortunately, the Peak Eagle’s calls were not very loud. It was as if it understood they were on a mission.

Its voice was much quieter than during the day, and it did not flap its wings frequently, just staying quietly perched on Yan Hua’s shoulder.

“Didn’t I tell you to keep it quiet?” Yan Hua immediately turned around to admonish.

She was getting rather tired too; she had not expected that going on a mission would result in being stalked by a wild beast.

“…” The Peak Eagle tilted its head without making another sound, just looking at Yan Hua with confusion.

“Then let’s begin.” Yan Hua turned back to look at the others.

She wanted to complete this mission immediately so they could hurry back to the Flame Dragon Tribe.

“Right, according to the plan, first we’ll assassinate the patrol guards.” Sha Lan said seriously.

They had observed through telescopes for a long time and consistently had not spotted anyone else appearing within the Sea Insect Tribe.

Perhaps everyone was sleeping at night, with the only Human figures being the patrol team.

“Right, the hot air balloon should not get too close. It would easily expose us.” Yan Hua said.

“How about this: just the two of us go down, while the others wait on the hot air balloon.” Sha Lan suggested.

“Just the two of us going down?” Yan Hua was somewhat puzzled.

“Yes, we’ll have Cheng Shi and Ai’er carry us down, and we’ll use recurve bows to eliminate them from behind.” Sha Lan explained.

Yan Hua thought seriously for a moment, then nodded. “That’s a good idea.”

At least this way not everyone would be deployed, and it would not be as likely to alert the Sea Insect Tribe.

*Screech…*

*Flap flap…*

The Peak Eagle called out again, then took flight, continuously beating its wings.

“Didn’t I say not to make any noise!?” Yan Hua immediately looked down at the ground, and seeing that no one below had noticed anything, breathed a sigh of relief.

“It seems to be signalling for you to follow it.” Sha Lan speculated.

“No way. It looks so frail and weak. How could it possibly support me?” Yan Hua thought it quite unlikely.

*Flap flap…*

The Peak Eagle continued beating its wings incessantly, this time even more vigorously.

“It does seem to be the case.” Sha Lan said earnestly.

Yan Hua watched the Peak Eagle carefully for quite a while, then finally compromised. “Then you’d better hold onto me properly.”

She was somewhat worried that this small frame could not securely grip onto her. Falling afterwards would be rather embarrassing.

“Ai’er, come with me. Cheng Shi, you stay here and observe the surroundings.” Sha Lan immediately changed the plan.

“Ah! I really wanted to go too.” Cheng Shi said at once.

He had thought he could show off a bit, but in the end he was still being left on the hot air balloon.

“Then you follow behind us and help us keep watch.” Sha Lan said.

Sha Lan thought having one more person would be good. He could help observe the Sea Insect Tribe’s situation while they operated.

“Don’t worry, leave it all to me.” Cheng Shi looked completely confident.

“Let’s set off.” Sha Lan prepared her recurve bow.

*Flap flap…*

Cheng Shi and Ai’er spread their wings and left the hot air balloon, with one person carrying Sha Lan as they began to descend slowly.

Yan Hua also grasped the Peak Eagle’s talons and began descending slowly, which were actually quite sturdy.

Despite being in only a juvenile, it could still bear Yan Hua’s weight, and the flight down was not violently shaky either.

Instead, it was surprisingly stable, which put Yan Hua at ease. Now, she did not need to worry about falling.

Under the cold moonlight’s illumination, four people and one eagle began descending slowly from the sky.

However, they were not fools. They cleverly utilised the gaps when drifting clouds obscured the Moon to descend.

This way, their shadows would not be cast on the ground, and they could descend without making a sound.

“Everyone be careful.” Sha Lan cautioned.

The patrolling Totem Warriors had passed by not long ago when they landed.

They landed behind a wooden house, with everyone being extremely cautious and not daring to breathe heavily.

“Cheng Shi, you go to the front and make some noise to attract the Totem Warriors, be careful.” Sha Lan kept her voice very, very low, continuing: “We’ll deal with the rear Totem Warriors from behind.”

“Understood.” Cheng Shi also responded quietly.

“Don’t make too much noise. Just disguise it as sounds made by wild beasts.” Sha Lan instructed.

She did not want this commotion to wake up too many people. That would make things terrible.

“Of course.” Cheng Shi began to take off slowly.
