I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 652, You’re On Your Own

“Okay, let me do it.” Sha Lan had already aimed her recurve bow.

Sha Lan’s accuracy was also among the best in the Tribe, comparable or even better than Yan Hua.

“We must succeed in one attempt. If we’re discovered, it’ll make things difficult for us the next time.” Yan Hua said.

Though beasts were not that smart, they still could not be underestimated. Some could even lure people into traps.

Not to mention, these birds operated in groups. This time, the leader has been hiding behind its companions all along, showing remarkable intelligence.

“I know, I definitely won’t let it escape.” Sha Lan had already closed one eye.

“Continue shooting down the other birds, buy some time for Ah’Lan.” Yan Hua turned around and shouted.

“Understood.” The Totem Warriors replied in unison.

The Tribe’s Totem Warriors had no other advantages, but their greatest strength was unity and cooperation, especially in situations like this.

*Whoosh whoosh whoosh…*

The vast sky continuously rang with the sound of cutting through air, arrows shot out like lightning.

Two Totem Warriors were controlling the hot air balloon, trying to make it fly higher.

This way they could buy more time. Originally they had not wanted to waste too much Kerosene Fruit.

They had lowered the balloon’s flying altitude, and shortly after lowering it they encountered this flock of birds.

The grey-brown birds were shot down before they could even approach the hot air balloon, every single bird without exception.

*Whoosh!*

Sha Lan found the perfect opportunity and released her hand, shooting the arrow.

*Chirp!*

The grey-black leader bird’s cry was cut off halfway, and it fell at a speed visible to the naked eye.

“Success!” The corners of Sha Lan’s mouth turned up slightly.

This was not difficult for Sha Lan at all. The previous accuracy training had not been for nothing.

With the death of the leader bird, the flying speed of the other birds obviously slowed considerably.

They no longer charged towards the hot air balloon in a rush, but turned their heads to look at their fallen companions.

However, there were still a dozen or so that ignored everything, flapping their wings towards the hot air balloon.

The consequence was obvious. Nothing more than being shot by arrows and falling down.

In just five minutes, that flock of grey-brown birds stopped attacking and began flapping their wings to turn around and leave.

Sha Lan saw these birds return to the forest and smiled. “The Shaman’s method really works.”

Sha Lan’s face immediately showed a smile, thinking she should ask for more of such strategies when she returned.

“Yeah, otherwise we’d still be wasting time here with these birds.” Yan Hua also agreed.

Co Co breathed a sigh of relief. Among everyone, only she was not a Totem Warrior. When these birds attacked, she could only hide.

She did not want to cause trouble for the others, especially since she had promised when they set out.

“Let’s continue. We’ve been delayed for a while. If we don’t hurry, we won’t find a suitable place to rest tonight.” Co Co patted the dust off her body.

“Right.” Yan Hua put away her recurve bow.

*Whoosh whoosh whoosh…*

The two Totem Warriors increased the flame on the hot air balloon, and the sound of burning rang out continuously.

The hot air balloon’s speed obviously increased considerably, and its flying altitude also gradually rose.

Everyone had learnt their lesson. They could not fly too close to the forest anymore, who knows what problems might appear again.

Several hours later, night quietly fell, and the originally lush green forest instantly became sinister.

*Hoot hoot hoot…*

*Awoo awoo…*

*Kik kik…*

All sorts of strange sounds came from within the forest, all made by those Ferocious Beasts eyeing them hungrily.

Night time was hunting time for Ferocious Beasts, especially for those nocturnal.

Only at night could they properly show their skills, and their own strength would be amplified.

Yan Hua chose a relatively high mountain peak to rest, where there was a protruding large stone block.

The stone block jutted out prominently from the steep mountain wall, making it very difficult for other Ferocious Beasts to approach. Of course, unless one had wings.

“You wait here, I’ll go hunt for some food and come back.” Yan Hua instantly became energetic.

When the hot air balloon had just landed, Yan Hua was full of energy, ready to go hunting at any moment.

Originally, the greatest wish of awakening as a Totem Warrior was to go hunting. She had not had the chance these past two days!

“Alright, you two be careful. Leave this place to me.” Sha Lan instructed.

She was confident in Yan Hua’s strength, but the night still made her a bit worried.

Moreover, Yan Hua had an adventurous nature. She was afraid she might see something interesting in the forest. If that happens, then it might really be over for her. With Yan Hua’s personality, it would be stranger if she did not follow that interesting thing away.

“Don’t worry, don’t worry.” Yan Hua brushed her black hair.

She leapt forward, grabbed the butterfly girl’s foot with one hand, and both of them flew away from the stone block.

Their coordination was excellent. Whenever the resting place at night was relatively high or far away, one would carry the other person out to hunt. After all, flying saves a lot of time.

“Can you see clearly?” Ai’er asked.

Ai’er was flapping her wings with all her might. Previously she might not have been able to pull someone and fly this high.

After awakening as a Totem Warrior, her own stamina had increased, so flying carrying someone was not difficult now.

“Leave it to me.” Yan Hua said confidently, her red eyes wide open.

Yan Hua’s other hand was still holding a recurve bow, ready to shoot beasts active in the trees.

Originally the food they brought was enough, but everyone wanted to eat something fresh, plus she wanted to go out and be active.

These past two nights she had been going out hunting, which could be considered fulfilling her long-cherished wish.

*Screech!*

In the vast forest, a tremendous bird cry rang out. This sound was extremely loud.

After hearing it, Yan Hua and her companion immediately stopped. Ai’er also did not continue flying forward.

“Ah’Hua, this sound…” Ai’er vigilantly scanned the surroundings.

“I heard it too. This sound should be made by a Ferocious Beast. Seems to be a bird.” Yan Hua guessed.

This sound was very familiar to Yan Hua, like she had heard it in the Hunting Ground before.

“No way. We encounter a Ferocious Beast right after coming out?” Ai’er immediately raised the recurve bow in her hand.

“From the sound, it’s quite far away. It shouldn’t be coming towards us.” Yan Hua found nothing unusual in the surroundings.

“Let’s still be careful. Let’s quickly finish hunting and go back.” Ai’er had a bad premonition.

Yan Hua blinked her red eyes and only said after a long while. “En, let’s catch two snakes and go back.”

“Don’t scare me. Don’t tell me you want to go find this Ferocious Beast.” Ai’er felt Yan Hua was acting strangely.

“I won’t.” Yan Hua replied absent-mindedly.

“May the Shaman bless us!” Ai’er said helplessly.

Ai’er also understood Yan Hua. At this moment, she could only hope for divine protection.
