Chapter 293: Disaster Relief ( 1 )

Hearing Yao Zhi’s words, Xue Ya’er raised her eyebrows and said, ”Young Master Lei, feel free to speak your mind.”

”I heard that the General sent the soldiers to help with the disaster rescue. I wonder if the disaster relief grain has been distributed to the people.”

”My husband had sent the memorial asking for disaster relief, but until today, we didn’t receive any reply from the capital,” Xue Ya’er sighed.

When she heard this, Yao Zhi had a guess in her heart, but she didn’t voice it out. From her observation and Ling Shijiu’s investigations, she discovered that the relationship between the Emperor and the dukes and marquises was not good.

Unlike the Shang Dynasty, this world adopted noble titles such as baron, count, marquis, and duke. But they were given a fief and had a position similar to the vassal princes.

Since the nobles had different surnames from the royal families, the relationship was delicate.

After the new Emperor sat on the throne, he removed a total of 2 marquises, 5 barons, and several generals to consolidate imperial power. The shift of power caused the fight between the factions in the royal court to become more intense.

At this moment, Lu Qianxuan was connected to the Duke of Zhenguo through adoption.

One of the reasons he was out of the Emperor’s radar was that he married a merchant’s daughter. If he had married a daughter of a noble family or a high official, he wouldn’t have been able to survive for so long.

Based on these facts alone, Yao Zhi knew that the possibility of the imperial court releasing the grains was almost zero.

Although the border area was under the jurisdiction of the imperial court, the one holding power was someone related to the Duke of Zhenguo. The Emperor would most likely use this chance to cut off some of the Duke of Zhenguo’s power.

Reaching this conclusion, Yao Zhi said, ”The grain sent over by my Father should arrive tonight, but I can’t spare my people to deliver the grain. So I wonder if Madam can send your people tomorrow to my warehouse to pick up the grains?”

The moment she heard this, Xue Ya’er’s eyes lit up. She looked at her for a moment before she asked, ”Young Master Lei, are you saying that your family is willing to donate grains to aid with the disaster relief?”

Yao Zhi nodded and replied, ”My family has limited manpower, and I can only help the refugees staying in Zhu’an Town. But the ones who need help the most are the people in the disaster area.”

After a moment of pause, she added, ”Besides grains, my father also sends winter clothes and medicine for cold and fever. So, we might need more people.”

Xue Ya’er was delighted by her words. She nodded and said gratefully, ”Please thank your father for the people and me. I will arrange enough people to pick up the goods.”

Yao Zhi nodded and stood up. She cupped her fists, bowed, and said, ”Madam, I still have some matters to attend to, so I will take my leave now.”

Hearing this, Xue Ya’er stood up and returned her bow. ”Young Master Lei, walk slowly.”

After she said this, Dong Mei gestured to Yao Zhi and led her to the main gate. She stood at the gate and waited until the horse carriage was no longer visible before she returned to report.

Meanwhile, Yao Zhi was opening her system’s shop inside her carriage.

”Master, are we going back to the store, or do you have another place to visit?” Ling Shi’er asked.

”Go to the warehouse.”

”Understood.”

Since she had a lot of points, Yao Zhi had more freedom in choosing the goods.

For the winter clothes, she chose a design used by the commoners during the Shang Dynasty, but with materials similar to those of the later dynasty. She avoided buying clothes using modern era materials and opted for cotton, hemp, and animal hide.

The price for a set of winter clothes, complete with winter shoes, a hat, and gloves, was 100 points.

Since she didn’t know how many people needed the clothes, she bought 50,000 sets of women’s clothes, 50,000 sets of men’s clothes, and 50,000 sets of children’s clothes.

She didn’t choose small sizes but instead went for medium and large sizes. It’s better to wear bigger clothes than smaller ones. The clothes cost her a total of 15,000,000 points.

After she was done buying the winter clothes, she bought 200,000 packs of cold and fever medicines, costing her 1,400,000 points.

Then, she bought 5,000 kilograms of ginger slices, 10,000 kilograms of brown sugar, 500 kilograms of salt, and 500 kilograms of lard, costing her a total of 430,000 points.

As for the grains, she checked the warehouse of her system’s farmland and saw that there was flour inside. Recalling the points she spent to buy flour from the system’s shop, she patted her forehead.

She packed 100,000 kilograms of millet flour, 100,000 kilograms of sorghum flour, 100,000 kilograms of all-purpose flour, and 50,000 kilograms of rice.

Besides grains, she also packed 10,000 kilograms of mixed mushrooms. These mushrooms could be used to make soup.

The amount of these supplies should be enough to last the soldiers and refugees until they rebuild their villages.

Not long after she finished her purchase, they arrived at the warehouse. Yao Zhi unlocked the gate and went inside. She turned to Ling Shi’er and said, ”Wait here.”

”Yes, Master.”

She entered the main building and took out all of the flour, grain, brown sugar, ginger slices, salt, and lard she had prepared. As for the winter clothes, winter shoes, gloves, and hats, they were stored in the left and right buildings.

When she was done, she locked the door and said, ”Shi’er, go back to the store.”

When they arrived, it was almost lunchtime. Since the town guards were helping, Ling Yi and his brothers took a break and had their meal.
