Chapter 268: Sky-high Price Sauce ( 5 )

After he sent everyone off, Zhou Boming told his son to close the door and went to the backyard to count the money with his family.

Following Yao Zhi’s request, they didn’t increase the price. Soy sauce was 2 taels of silver per jin, and fish sauce was 5 taels of silver per jin.

In less than an hour, they made a total of 4,100 taels of silver. According to their agreement, Zhou Boming got 10% and thus earned 410 taels of silver. Yao Zhi earned 3,690 taels of silver.

After deducting the ”tea money” for the guards, they still earned 408 taels of silver. Zhou Boming and his family were so happy that they couldn’t keep their mouths closed.

He handed the money to his wife and said, ”Wife, you keep this money. The exam will be held after the sacrificial ceremony. Keep part of the money for Ziyuan’s study.”

Liu Meihua accepted the money and nodded. ”I understand.”

Worried that some people would target them, she went to the bank and exchanged the silver ingots for banknotes. Afterward, she hid the banknotes in a jar and buried it somewhere in the backyard. Besides her and her husband, no one knew where she kept their money.

At 10 o’clock in the morning, Yao Zhi and Ling Shi’er arrived at the General’s mansion. The guards recognized her horse carriage from a distance, and one of them quickly went inside to inform Steward Han.

When Yao Zhi climbed down the wooden steps, Steward Han had been waiting for her. Seeing her walking over, he cupped his fists, bowed slightly, and said, ”Greetings, Young Master Lei.”

She returned his greeting and said, ”Greetings, Steward Han. Is Madam at home?”

Used to her casual way of talking, Steward Han smiled and replied, ”Madam and the General are waiting for you in the main hall.”

Yao Zhi was not surprised to learn that the General was also at home. After her last visit, she felt that the General might be a fake male lead.

The male lead in the plot shown by the system should distance himself from other women, including his legal wife, except for the female lead. After all, the main trait of the male lead was his ”clean” body.

But from what she saw, the General seemed to be quite clingy toward his wife. He even stood so close to her when the Madam was checking the goods.

While her mind was weaving dog-blood plot lines, they arrived in the main hall.

This time, both the General and Xue Ya’er wore casual clothes, which softened their intimidating aura.

Yao Zhi cupped her fists and greeted them, ”Greetings, General. Greetings, Madam.”

Lu Qianxuan looked behind her and asked, ”Young Master Lei, you didn’t bring your guard with you today?”

”Shi’er is drinking tea with the servants.”

Hearing this, Lu Qianxuan nodded and said, ”Please have a seat.”

”Thank you, General.”

After the maidservant served her tea and snacks, Xue Ya’er finally asked, ”Young Master Lei, what brought you here today?”

Yao Zhi took a sip of the tea before she took out a wooden box from her sleeves. She placed the box on the table and said, ”Madam, today I come to ask a favor from you.”

After a moment of pause, she added, ”These are wound ointment and moisturizing cream I bought from a divine physician. I tried them, and they were good. Madam, these are for you.”

If it were before, Lu Qianxuan would turn into a sour lemon. But now that he knew that this person was a woman, he only thought that his wife had good eyes. This friend of hers was really generous and loyal. When she got good things, she always thought of her.

Xue Ya’er was delighted and glanced at Xia Qing. Receiving the hint, she walked over and took the wooden box. Opening the lid, she showed the contents to her Master and Mistress.

Seeing the clear, transparent glass jar, both Lu Qianxuan and Xue Ya’er were surprised.

He had seen glass beads when he was young, since they were used as burial items by the royal family. As for Xue Ya’er, she had only heard about glass beads and had never seen them in person.

Even with her family’s wealth, her grandpa only managed to obtain a small cup made of glaze at a high price. That glass cup was later buried with her grandma when she passed away.

Now, seeing such a clear, transparent glass jar, they couldn’t help but reevaluate Lei Feng’s ability and background.

When Yao Zhi saw their expressions, her heart sank. She forgot to check if this world had glass before using that glass jar. She panicked and had to use the teacup to hide her emotions.

On the main seats, all Lu Qianxuan and Xue Ya’er saw was her calm demeanor, as if these glass jars were a common item. Reaching this conclusion, they exchanged glances and made up their minds to keep this relationship.

Xue Ya’er took the wooden box and closed the lid. She placed the box on the table beside her and said, ”Young Master Lei, your gift is too precious. I wonder if there is anything I can do to repay you.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi heaved a sigh of relief in her heart and placed the teacup down. She didn’t answer directly but glanced at the servants.

Understanding her intentions, Lu Qianxuan waved his hand and said, ”All of you, leave.”

”Yes,” the servants replied in unison before they left the main hall.

Outside, Steward Han and two guards stood at the entrance to make sure no one was eavesdropping.

Inside, Lu Qianxuan said, ”Young Master Lei, you can speak your mind.”

Yao Zhi stood up and bowed to them before she said, ”General, Madam, I want to give new identities to my slaves.”

Hearing this, both of them were taken aback. After a moment of silence, Xue Ya’er asked, ”Why do you want to give them new identities?”
