Chapter 290: Winter Disaster ( 13 )

”I’m going to boil some ginger tea. It’s very cold today, and those people have been standing outside for so long. They would catch a cold if they didn’t warm up their bodies,” Yao Zhi replied casually when she heard Ling Shi’er’s question.

”Shi’er, help me fill the pot with water from the well.”

The well water in the town was fresh water and safe for consumption.

While he was filling the pot, Yao Zhi went to her room and opened the system’s shop. She bought 500 kilograms of ginger and 200 kilograms of brown sugar, costing her 9,000 points.

After buying the ingredients, she went to the backyard, carrying two sacks. Placing the sacks on the side, she said, ”There are more ginger slices and brown sugar in my room. Bring them out.”

”Yes, Master,” Ling Shi’er nodded.

Yao Zhi opened the sacks and put two handfuls of the ginger slices into the pot. The ginger was fresh and juicy. Two handfuls were enough to boil a big pot of ginger soup. Then, she added some brown sugar just to balance out the ginger bitterness.

With high heat, it only took 30 minutes to prepare a pot of ginger soup. When it was ready, she called Ling Shiwu, Ling Shiliu, and Ling Shiqi to distribute the soup.

She transferred the soup into jars and let them carry it out. They not only distributed the ginger soup to the refugees but also to the guards. After drinking the soup, everyone felt warmer.

While they were as busy as honey bees, the news finally reached Xue Ya’er.

Hearing that Lei Feng had initiated the porridge distribution, she said, ”Since Young Master Lei already takes care of Zhu’an Town, then send our people and set up the porridge stall in the nearby towns.”

”Madam, do we need to prepare steamed buns and ginger soup, too?” Steward Han asked.

Xue Ya’er thought for a moment and shook her head. ”We don’t have enough ingredients for that. Just prepare porridge, make it thicker.”

”Understood,” Steward Han bowed and left.

With the General’s mansion also setting up stalls to distribute porridge to the refugees in several towns, the wealthy families also followed suit.

As for the officials’ families, their wealth was far worse compared to that of the wealthy families. So, they opted to join hands and distribute clothes instead.

Although the clothes were old and not warm enough, they were better than nothing. Thanks to everyone’s effort, the situation regarding the refugees had improved.

When Yao Zhi received the news, it was already in the afternoon. She nodded at Ling Shijiu and said, ”You did well. Go take a rest.”

Ling Shijiu cupped his fists, bowed, and said, ”Thank you, Master.”

Today, they stopped distributing the porridge at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. Thanks to the town guards’ help, everyone received a bowl of porridge, a bowl of brown sugar ginger soup, and two steamed buns.

After closing the store, Yao Zhi prepared dinner while her people went to take a warm bath.

To replenish their energy, she cooked two huge pots of chicken herbal soup and added two drops of spiritual spring water into each pot. Then, she took out 100 pieces of egg and vegetable steamed buns from her system’s storage.

To reward everyone, she took out a jar of longan grain wine she had brewed before. Drinking longan wine in the winter could warm up the body and aid with sleep if consumed moderately.

A jar of wine was equal to two liters, which was more than enough for everyone to share. When the chicken soup was ready, everyone also finished with their bath.

They sat together and had their meal with satisfaction.

”I will go back to the village. The matter of distributing the porridge will be left to Ling Yi and Xi Yi to handle. Xi Si and Xi Qi will stay here until we finish the porridge distribution.”

”Shiyi and Shi’er, both of you will follow me back to the village.”

When they heard her words, everyone nodded and replied in unison, ”Understood.”

After dinner, Yao Zhi left with Ling Shiyi, Ling Shi’er, and her wolf cubs. Due to the snowfall, they couldn’t drive the donkey cart too fast and reached the village when the sky had darkened.

It was 8 o’clock in the evening when she finally lay down and went to sleep.

Early in the morning, before dawn, Yao Zhi was woken up by the sound of people practicing martial arts. When she came out of her room, she saw Ling Shiyi and Ling Shi’er exchanging moves in the backyard.

She let out a yawn and went to the kitchen to boil water. After she washed up, she prepared breakfast for them. Today, she made minced meat porridge paired with stir-fried vegetables, sunny-side eggs, and fresh milk.

For her wolf cubs, she prepared their meal as usual and added a drop of spiritual spring water into their milk. For Xiao Lu, she added the spiritual spring water to the drinking water.

While she prepared breakfast, she opened her system and checked her points.

At this moment, she had a total of 15,820,499 points. It seemed like a lot, but after she interacted with her system for more than 7 months, she knew that this amount might not be enough to open the next feature.

She checked her animal farm and saw that the number of fish raised in her lake already exceeded the maximum capacity.

Although the automatic management would process the fish into various products, the number kept increasing. If this continued, her warehouse wouldn’t be able to store them for long.

Reaching this conclusion, she decided to sell her fish. Rather than selling the products, she chose to sell the fresh fish. The variety of her fish had reached 29 types. Each type has a different price, and she didn’t bother too much about it.

She sold 80% of the total mature fish in her lake in the system’s shop.
