Chapter 284: Winter Disaster ( 7 )

Manager Wu checked the herbs one by one. At first, he only felt that the herbs were of good quality and were processed meticulously. But as he checked more herbs, his expression turned solemn.

Standing across from him, Yao Zhi observed him closely. When she noticed the change in his expression, she asked, ”Manager Wu, is there a problem with my herbs?”

Hearing this, Manager Wu shook his head and controlled his expression. He looked at her and gestured toward the only fresh herbs in the batch and asked, ”Yao-shi, there is no problem with your herbs.”

”Each of them is of very good quality, and the drying process was far better than most herbs I have ever seen. But these leaves, I have never seen before. May I know the name of these herbs?”

Yao Zhi glanced at the green leaves and replied, ”This is called Jiao Gu Lan. It’s used to boost immunity, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, manage stress, protect liver function, and support weight loss.”

After a moment of pause, she added, ”This herb has another name, which is the herb of immortality.”

The reason for this name is that this herb produces high concentrations of saponins, which are rarely found in other plants.

Besides the medicinal uses that she told the manager, this herb could also reduce bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, manage diabetes, and could be used to treat coughs, bronchitis, and asthma.

When Manager Wu heard her explanation, his eyes widened in surprise. Not to mention other functions, just the function of lowering blood pressure was enough to make this herb valuable.

”Yao-shi, where did you get this herb?” he asked.

”I found this herb near the cliff in the deep mountain. I couldn’t get the whole plant, and I’m only able to get some of the leaves,” Yao Zhi sighed.

When Ling Shi’er heard this, he stared at her but said nothing. He found that his Master was an expert when it came to telling lies.

He had never seen her going to the mountain, yet she was able to say that she got these unknown leaves from the deep mountain. Although he was also curious where his Master got these valuable herbs, he had no thought of prying deeper.

When Manager Wu heard Yao Zhi’s words, he let out a long sigh and said, ”That’s a pity.”

After he said this, he asked, ”Yao-shi, are you selling this Jiao Gu Lan?”

Since this herb was a spiritual herb and only looked like Jiao Gu Lan, Yao Zhi didn’t dare to sell it. She shook her head and replied, ”I want to keep it for my family.”

Manager Wu nodded in understanding and asked again, ”Then how about these herbs?”

Yao Zhi thought for a moment and replied, ”If the price is reasonable, I will sell them.”

Although these herbs were rare here, they were sold in the system’s shop, and she could buy more later. She only came to check if these herbs were the same as the ones listed by Physician Yu.

Manager Wu wrote down the price on the paper and showed it to her. ”Yao-shi, are these prices acceptable?”

Yao Zhi nodded and took out the list given by Physician Yu and asked, ”Manager Wu, can you help me check if the herbs listed here are the same as the ones I’m selling?”

Manager Wu didn’t know what this list was about and nodded. He checked the list and said, ”Besides these two, the rest of the herbs are all here.”

Hearing this, Yao Zhi asked, ”Manager Wu, do you have these two herbs?”

”These herbs are hard to come by, and we only have around one or two taels of each type.”

”Can I have a look?” she asked again.

”Sure.” After he said this, Manager Wu opened the small cabinet and took out two small wooden boxes.

He showed the herbs to her and added, ”If Yao-shi wants to buy these herbs, I can give you a discount. This one is 50 taels of silver per tael. As for this one, it’s 220 taels of silver per tael.”

When Yao Zhi heard this, she was taken aback. ”Aren’t these two herbs used to treat cold and fever? Why are they so expensive?”

Noticing her surprise, Manager Wu replied, ”These herbs are indeed to treat cold and fever, but they grow in cold-temperature areas, mostly at the peak of the mountain. Because of their rarity, they are hard to come by.”

”Then, can I replace them with other herbs?”

Manager Wu thought for a moment before he said, ”Most people will replace them or not use them. But the effectiveness of the concoction will be reduced.”

After a moment of pause, he asked, ”How about I ask the physician to give you another prescription for cold and fever using common herbs?”

”Will it be troublesome?” Yao Zhi asked with delight.

”No trouble at all.” Manager Wu glanced at the clerk, and soon after, he went to get the prescription.

While waiting, Manager Wu calculated with his abacus. When the clerk returned with a new prescription, he also finished his calculation.

”Yao-shi, the total price of your herbs is 978 taels of silver and 753 wen. I will round it to 980 taels of silver for you.”

Yao Zhi didn’t refuse and smiled. ”Thank you, Manager Wu.”

After she received the payment and the new prescription, she left the pharmacy with Ling Shi’er. As they walked, she stored the silver ingots in her system’s storage using her sleeve as a cover.

”Master, are there other places you want to visit?” Ling Shi’er asked.

”Let’s go to the storefront.”

The two of them went to get the donkey cart and drove to the storefront. Now that everyone already knew about her identity, Yao Zhi no longer needed to disguise herself when she came to visit.

When they saw her coming, they greeted her in unison, ”Greetings, Master.”

Yao Zhi waved her hands and walked to the store. Everyone followed her.
