Transmigrated To Ancient Time: Thrive With An Auction System!

Chapter 258: Master-servant Blood Contract ( 1 )

After she finished her words, Yao Zhi handed Xi Qi to her husband and used the bamboo basket as a cover to take out the items she had prepared for him.

Holding the boy, Fu Chen’an didn’t dare to move. The boy felt soft and small. Although he could carry him with one hand, he still held him with both hands. His posture was awkward, and his body was stiff.

In the distance, the guards watched this in shock. It seemed that the little boy was indeed Squad Leader Fu’s illegitimate son!

Yao Zhi spent half an hour chatting with her husband as he tried the jianbing. He ate 2 pieces and stored the rest in his spatial bag.

Seeing the spatial bag, she suddenly remembered the thank-you gift from the system and said, ”Husband, I just obtained a bigger spatial bag. The size is five times bigger than the one you use. Do you want to change the bag?”

Fu Chen’an was content with the size of his current bag and shook his head. ”Wife, this bag is enough for me. You should keep that one for your own use.”

Since he had said so, Yao Zhi didn’t insist and nodded. ”Okay.”

After she left, Fu Chen’an returned to the barracks. The guards looked at him with strange gazes, but they didn’t dare to spread the rumors. Spreading rumors in the military would be punished with 50 lashes. That would cripple them, if not kill them.

In the blink of an eye, 3 days had passed. Because they added a side room, it took the Yang brothers and Ling Shi’er a total of 4 days to finish the work.

Today was the 2nd day of the 1st month, 4th year of Tianwu.

As the sun rose on the eastern horizon, Yao Zhi was settling the account with Yang Dalang in the room.

With the addition of his cousins and brothers-in-law, the total number of workers was 15. With a daily wage of 35 Wen, they earned 2 taels of silver and 100 Wen in 4 days.

The materials used to build the 2 rooms totaled 7 taels of silver and 680 Wen. From the 10 taels of silver she gave them, there were 220 Wen left.

Yang Dalang handed the strings of coins to her, but Yao Zhi didn’t accept them. ”Brother Dalang, consider this a thank-you gift for you and your brothers. If not for everyone’s help, it would have been impossible to finish the work so fast.”

”Sister Yao, you paid us 35 Wen daily. This already doubled the market price. How can I accept more from you?” he refused.

Hearing this, Yao Zhi smiled and pushed the money toward him. ”Brother Dalang, if you refuse it, I won’t dare to ask for your family’s help in the future. What’s more, it is almost the day of the sacrificial ceremony.”

With her reminder, Yang Dalang hesitated for a moment before he finally accepted the money. ”Thank you, Sister Yao.”

Yao Zhi smiled and sent him off. After he left, she tried to search for the memories of her current body.

In this world, the so-called Spring Festival did exist, but it was called the sacrificial ceremony. This ceremony was held at the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year.

This massive, organized sacrificial ceremony was meant to worship the ancestors and gods while asking for a good harvest.

During the reign of the previous emperor, they used millet wine, roasted meat, and war captives as sacrificial offerings to ensure the continuity of the dynasty.

But this year, the current emperor removed the rules using humans as sacrificial offerings. His decisions met with strong objection from the civil officials, but the military officers supported him.

Even though they had killed countless enemies in the battlefields, the military officers still hold their bottom line of not killing those who surrender. Due to this matter, the current emperor gained several loyal generals who commanded large troops.

Yao Zhi only heard about this from the rumors and didn’t care too much about the court’s political situation. The capital was far from her home, and no matter how strong the storm was, it wouldn’t affect her at all.

The so-called year in this world did not have a fixed start date like the modern era’s New Year’s Day, but was determined by the agricultural cycle and celestial observations made by the King’s diviners.

The date had been chosen and announced throughout the entire Great Yan Kingdom. There were only 13 days left before the ceremonial day.

The original soul didn’t have any memorable experience regarding this sacrificial ceremony, so Yao Zhi also didn’t know what to do. To avoid doing something taboo, she could only go find her husband and ask for his opinion.

But before that, she needed to check the rooms built for Ling Shi’er first. As she walked to the backyard, Xi Qi quickly followed behind her.

It had been several days since she brought him back and fed him water mixed with spiritual spring water. Although she was still unable to see any improvement in his condition, Xi Qi was no longer as timid as before.

Now he was more active and had already become close friends with Ye Ying and Bai Xue. Sometimes, the wolf cubs would take him for a ride and play in the wasteland.

With the spiritual beasts guarding him, Yao Zhi was not worried that wild animals would harm him.

When she arrived in the backyard, she saw Ling Shi’er wiping the chairs and tables. She walked over and asked, ”Are these the furniture you made?”

Ling Shi’er nodded and replied, ”I learned how to make some furniture when I was young. It’s just that my craftsmanship is rough and not as good as the ones sold in town. But it’s good enough for me.”

Yao Zhi took a closer look and said, ”These chairs and tables have smooth surfaces and are sturdy. Those sold in town are expensive because of the intricate carving. You helped me save money. Well done!”
