Chapter 288: Winter Disaster ( 11 )

Ye Ying and Bai Hei stared at Yao Zhi for a moment before nodding slowly. Unlike usual, the two of them refused to let her go. It was not until she felt her legs go numb that they finally let her go and went to explore the house.

At this moment, Xi Yi had already learned that her daughter and son were brought over by her Master. She asked Ling Ba to replace her cooking the porridge and brought her children to the room.

It had been a while since she saw her son, and she couldn’t help but hold him while she chatted with her daughter.

Inside the room, she looked at her daughter and asked in a low voice, ”Ah Jie, are you doing well living with the Master?”

Xi Si nodded and replied softly, ”Mother, you don’t have to worry. The Master treats me and Ah Yan very well.”

She opened her bag and took out a bamboo tube from it. She handed it to her mother and said, ”Mother, this is the soy milk prepared by Master for Ah Yan and me. Mother, have a try.”

Xi Yi didn’t refuse her daughter’s filial piety. She opened the lid and took a sip. When she tasted the sweetness, she was surprised. ”This tastes like soybeans, but it’s sweet.”

”Mother, it is sweet because Master added honey to it. She said that Ah Yan and I are still growing up, and we need to eat nutritious food to grow up healthy.”

”Also, the Master gave me some books and the study’s four treasures. She told me to teach Ah Yan how to read and write. We also got a very warm blanket and clothes.”

When she heard how well Yao Zhi treated her children, Xi Yi’s loyalty reached 100%. She could only repay her Master’s kindness by devoting the rest of her life to serving her well.

The mother and children talked for half an hour before they went to the kitchen.

Since Xi Qi was too young to help and he also couldn’t be left alone, Xi Si held him while tending the fire. Xi Yi continued helping the Ling Squad cook porridge.

When it was lunch time, they ate steamed buns and drank porridge. No one complained because the food was delicious despite being simple.

Yao Zhi returned to her room and prepared food for her pets. After feeding the wolf cubs, she went to the underground cellar and bought 10,000 kilograms of millet flour and sorghum flour from the system, costing her a total of 8,000 points.

She also bought 20,000 kilograms of all-purpose flour to make steamed buns, costing her 16,000 points. Then, she bought 100 kilograms of rock sugar and 100 liters of vegetable oil, costing her 2,500 points.

Now that all the ingredients were ready, she could take a rest. While everyone was busy in the kitchen and the store, Yao Zhi returned to her room.

Using her spatial bracelet, she transported the milk from her room to the underground cellar.

Afterward, she locked her door and sat on the wooden bed. Opening the system’s shop, she checked the new prescription and searched for the herbs. Unlike before, all the herbs needed for the prescription were common herbs.

She thought for a moment before she asked, ”System, can you help me buy the herbs according to this prescription?”

A moment later, a mechanical voice echoed in her mind. ”Host, you can use the personal assistant function to help you.”

Although the system refused to help her, it did remind her of that function. Yao Zhi opened the automatic management feature and clicked on the assistant icon.

The next moment, another blue screen appeared in front of her. She entered the order, then put the prescription into the box. Afterward, the detailed information appeared beside the box.

The price for one portion of the prescription was 18 points for premium-quality herbs. For high-quality herbs, the cost was 12 points, and for medium-quality herbs, the price was 7 points.

Yao Zhi didn’t bother with the low-quality herbs. Although their effect was better than the medicinal herbs sold in the pharmacy, the price was not much different from that of the medium-quality herbs.

She chose the medium-quality herbs and input the amount. She didn’t know how many people would need the medicine. But unlike modern medicine, they needed to take several portions of the ancient concoction to fully heal.

After she considered it for a while, she finally decided to prepare 200,000 portions, the cost totaling 1,400,000 points.

When she finished the transaction, she realized that the prescription was now added to her medicine list. With this list, she no longer needed a prescription to buy cold and fever medicine in the future.

Now that she was done with the medicinal herbs, Yao Zhi prepared the items to be delivered to the General’s mansion. Next week, she had to deliver another batch of pelts, salted eggs, century eggs, and dried mushrooms as per their agreement.

It was an hour later when she finished. With her people handling things, she lay down and took a nap. When she woke up, the sky had darkened.

After she tidied herself up, she went to the storefront. She thought that after a whole day, the number of people outside should lessen, and they could close the store and rest.

But when she went out, Yao Zhi was shocked to see that the number of people not only didn’t reduce but increased instead.

She walked to the town guards and asked, ”Sir, why are there so many people here? The number seems to be twice as much as in the morning.”

The town guard was embarrassed by her question. After a moment, he finally said, ”Young Master Lei, the Magistrate said that since your family was able to provide grains for people, then we should assist you.”

”At noon, the Magistrate gave permission for the refugees to enter the town and told them about your porridge stall.”
