Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 377: Chapter 76: Ulti and Page One

This issue of the newspaper is almost entirely about the heroics of the Navy and World Government. Kaidou was originally watching for fun, wanting to see which weakling had been defeated again.

The sea is an era of slaughter; it’s only natural for the weak to be defeated.

However, this time he saw some special news.

The report Kaidou put down detailed how the Navy had severely damaged a certain pirate in the New World, who embarrassingly fled in disarray. Seeing that news, Kaidou had a bad premonition.

For no other reason than the fact that the person involved was an old acquaintance of his.

When he first arrived in Wano Kuni, he met an old comrade, White, Maria’s father. During their conversation, they brought up a name—Urent.

Compared to White, who had fallen on hard times in Wano Kuni, Urent had fared much better. Although a bounty of more than 100 million in the New World was not outstanding, it wasn’t weak either. After all, passing the 100 million mark is a threshold.

Kaidou once tried to recruit him, but he refused. He didn’t join any pirate subordinates and remained in the unclaimed territories of the New World.

[Navy G-14 Branch achieves significant victory; Urent and the pirate alliance are dismantled.]

This was the newspaper Kaidou last saw. It was not an exaggerated headline, merely a realistic description of what had happened at the time. But that pirate ship fleeing from the flames made Kaidou realize something.

In the sky, in the form of a Cyan Dragon, Kaidou was on his way. He understood this group of pirates, that betrayal among them was not uncommon. Pirate groups that didn’t rebel when their captain was defeated were few in number.

And these pirates were often more difficult to deal with.

Because compared to other pirates, these had a kind of faith.

Whether it was personal charisma or charm, it was such factors that made those pirates even harder to deal with.

After Rocks died, the Rocks Pirates scattered because they were never of one mind from the start.

Urent’s pirate group was alright, but even if there wasn’t any problem within the pirate group, Urent was a member of a pirate alliance.

An alliance less trustworthy than a pirate group is a pirate alliance, one full of even more betrayal.

There are very few pirates who can establish absolute trust; the lone Red Earl is an example.

He was somewhat wary of Charlotte Linlin, and now his deepest collaboration was with Arceus. Over more than ten years, they developed full trust.

The ship damaged in the Navy’s newspaper was Urent’s pirate ship. When forces are evenly matched, it’s an alliance; once this balance is upset, the alliance turns into annexation.

Kaidou knew roughly where Urent’s territory was, and he was heading there about this matter.

......

And Kaidou wasn’t wrong. In a certain sea domain of the New World, a pirate fight was taking place. Urent was not only defeated; though he didn’t die on the spot, he later succumbed to heavy injuries.

Urent’s subordinates hadn’t done anything particularly excessive yet, but it was different for other pirate groups. Without Urent, the Urent Pirates seemed like a big piece of fatty meat to them.

Taking advantage of their yet to recover state, some pirate groups who preserved their strength in the previous battle with the Navy began to take action.

”Hand over the treasure! That guy, Urent, must have hidden quite a few things!”

”That’s right. Urent is already dead. You don’t need to risk your lives for him, do you?”

Several pirate groups temporarily teamed up to exert pressure. Their pirate crew hadn’t suffered too much, making it hard to determine a victor, so they temporarily joined forces intending to jointly divide the Urent Pirates.

But from their positions, it was clear that they were still wary of each other.

”You bastards! If you hadn’t retreated early, the Captain wouldn’t have been so badly injured!”

”What nonsense are you talking about? Did that Urent guy mislead you too? Where does so much trust exist among pirates? You’re too naïve! You even dared to charge so close upfront.”

Bang! Bang!

Two gunshots suddenly rang out, and the chest of the pirate mocking Urent immediately sprouted two bloody holes.

”Don’t insult the Captain!”

”You’re looking for death!”

A new round of battle was about to erupt. The remaining members of the Urent Pirates fiercely resisted, but their numerical disadvantage made their resistance appear utterly futile.

In the scramble for what remained of Urent, they had already brought out cannons.

This was to attack the base Urent had dug into the mountain. After all, Urent had been a regular army of the kingdom before. In trench digging, he was much better than those self-taught pirates.

The cannonfire caused rocks to fall continually, and inside the covered room, cries constantly echoed as a boy with a leather cap and small horns of purple hair cried over the bump on his head.

An earlier falling rock had left such a bump on his head.

Before him stood a girl with blue-pink hair, wearing a frilled mask and holding a wooden stick studded with nails, angrily staring at the room’s door.

”Don’t be scared, little Pei. No one can hurt you. I will protect you.”

She was Ulti, and her little brother Page One, whom she referred to as little Pei, were Urent’s remaining children. Her words were both to comfort Page One and herself.

At just five years old, it was too early for her to say those words, and outside, the cannonfire seemed to have stopped.

This was not good news, as it meant the battle had ended. Soon, sounds of the door being kicked came from outside. The seemingly solid door did not hold for long and was kicked open.

The pirates outside looked at the two children in the room with a dangerous smile.

”Boss! We found Urent’s two kids! Just like the photo, they’ll fetch a good price.” Urent had once bragged about his children to others, leading to today’s targeting.

The price for cute little girls had never been low, let alone with such horned features. The rarer something was, the more it fetched.

Ulti was not Yamato, and the crude wooden stick was not Agito. Facing an adult pirate, she failed to keep her promise of protecting Page One and was stepping on the ground after a few attacks.

”Sister!”

He tried to attack the pirate, but at just three years old, he was even more powerless. However, at this moment, new screams came from outside.

The pirate at the doorway thought it was due to a skirmish over an uneven division of loot and hoisted the siblings out. When he reached outside, he finally heard what was shouted.

”It’s...it’s Kaidou!! Hundred Beasts Kaidou!! Ah!” A hot breath swept over, and several pirates gradually turned into charred corpses in the flames.

”Although betrayal is not uncommon, even pirates must speak of morality! Thundering Hakken!!”
