Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 144: Chapter 143: Developing Wano Kuni According to Local Conditions

If several factories hadn’t really been established, Kurozumi Orochi would have been completely doubting his life. Moreover, Kaidou did not simply ignore him, as the military industry in Wano Kuni is indeed excellent and it is impossible to completely abandon these.

Even though the massive profits from the Hundred Beasts Fruit, plus John’s treasure, keep Hundred Beasts financially abundant, he still needs an excellent logistics base to ensure the supply of his weapons.

However, different from Orochi’s idea of establishing factories nationwide, Arceus has already arranged each region according to the environmental characteristics of Wano Kuni.

First is Kuri, with its mountainous terrain and mild climate, it’s a suitable location for cultivating most Berries. At the same time, there is a Tauros ranch here, with the new breeds of Wano cattle grazing among the mountains.

Hakumai’s terrain and climate characteristics are similar to Kuri, but it lacks high mountains and is mostly hilly. Its development plan is similar to Kuri, though Kuri focuses more on agriculture, while here the emphasis is more on animal husbandry, each with its focus direction.

The Flower Capital is the economic center of Wano Kuni, its peripheral terrain is also good, and the climate is clearly distinct. Utilizing the terrain of Mt. Fuji, special medicines can be cultivated here.

Additionally, as it is located at the center of Wano Kuni, it will inevitably become the main trading place for goods in the future.

The barren Himi Plains in the north are planned by Hundred Beasts as the primary area for food production. While engaging in large-scale agricultural activities, basic food security must also be ensured.

As for the issue of barren land, Arceus plans to spend some time on greening, letting people here experience what ”miracle” means.

Udon and Ringo, the Seastone Vein of Wano Kuni is distributed in Udon, hence it is mostly rocky with minimal soil, not suitable for cultivation. Based on the principle of adapting measures to local conditions, Udon was selected as the main industrial area.

Moreover, the Seastone Vein is nearby, making Wano Kuni’s weapon craftsmanship and Seastone processing technology unique, or rather it is exactly their unique Seastone processing technology that granted them excellent military capabilities.

The proximity of the factories to the mine can also reduce losses and manpower consumption during transportation.

And Ringo is covered by snow most of the time due to its cold climate. There are only a few cold-zone plants that need to grow here, but after preserving some area, it is planned as the location for future assembly workshops.

The forging of ores and crafting of parts are completed in Udon, then transported to Ringo for assembly. The finished products are sent to Ghost Island, where Kaidou and the others determine their future use. This is the current arrangement for the six different regions of Wano Kuni.

However, everything is just starting, and these are plans for after fully controlling Wano Kuni. Currently, Hundred Beasts is merely building factories in Udon and constructing agricultural and pastoral mixed orchards in Kuri.

Meanwhile, Hundred Beasts’ actions are creating a considerable impact in Wano Kuni. The number of people traveling with Hundred Beasts is around a thousand, even including chefs, ship doctors, and navigators, all capable of fighting. It can be said they are all elite.

These people coming to Wano Kuni are certainly not for farming, but industrial development requires more manpower. So, Hundred Beasts chose to recruit more local labor. With a population exceeding a million in Wano Kuni, recruiting some labor is not difficult.

Although Wano Kuni is xenophobic, some people can set aside this prejudice due to the people Kurozumi Orochi brought in, and they may have conflicts with people but not with money.

The monthly salary of 5 gold is considered high in Wano Kuni. Under the premise of not spending on food and drink, one can save up for a house in twenty months.

Although this is an exaggerated premise, it can still be considered good.

In this process, Hundred Beasts also plans to gradually absorb local members of Wano Kuni, achieving assimilation with Wano Kuni, and Riko is an example.

Even though Kaidou brought her out because she is White’s widow, this factor is also involved, and Hibiscus was brought out with them.

This was at Riko’s request. She believed it would be best for Hibiscus to grow up in another environment, if possible.

Mandfeish directly bought the entire Brothel on Kaidou’s orders. According to the rules, they now have control over all the courtesans there.

The composition of the brothel is very complex, with nobles who were punished for violating laws, people who voluntarily sold themselves, and those who were trafficked or sold by their families.

Currently, Hundred Beasts doesn’t have the time to solve such issues. Not only in Wano Kuni, but even externally, such things have never been completely banned. There are openly established human auction houses at the Shampodi Islands, and the Navy’s stationed troops are not far from there.

There were cases of people being sold to the auction house just after leaving the Navy Base.

However, the Navy’s presence does have some effectiveness; at least when they are there, Shampodi still has lawful areas.

Hundred Beasts’ actions create an opportunity for ordinary people to gain employment, but in the eyes of the Daimyo, it is viewed differently.

”Did I misjudge? Did Kurozumi Orochi truly turn over a new leaf and aim to help Wano Kuni develop its livelihood?”

This is Shimotsuki Yasuie’s thought; he is the Daimyo who has interacted the most with Kurozumi Orochi among the current few and is also familiar with Oden. He always felt something was wrong with Kurozumi Orochi.

Yet, looking at the current situation, he seems to have been mistaken.

”But, Lord Yasuie, those people under the banner of Orochi forcibly relocated some residents, and some lands were forcefully purchased, this...”

”Let’s observe for now; these matters are too strange.”

The Daimyo of Wano Kuni are of equal rank, each managing their own regions. Unless it’s something involving the General or events that would create significant changes throughout Wano Kuni, they wouldn’t contact each other lightly. In Shimotsuki Yasuie’s view, the current situation is not that severe yet.

Besides, the primary activities of Hundred Beasts are in Kuri and Udon. If not for the only external port located within his Hakumai territory and the absence of Oden, he would not be so concerned about these matters.

Unlike his calmness, the Daimyo of Udon, Uzuki Tempura, is deep in thought while looking at the few new factories emerging in Udon. Before this, there were no large-scale factories in Wano Kuni or they simply didn’t know what a factory was.

This was a new construction based on the orders given by Orochi as Acting General and also a suggestion from Kurozumi Higurashi. A large number of factories can not only bring substantial profits but the discharged wastewater can also pollute the environment of Wano Kuni.

The factory that Kaidou helped him establish in Udon is his last comfort. But a strange problem appeared: the wastewater situation only appeared in the first few days. After that, it seemed as if the wastewater vanished into thin air...
