The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 344: Chapter 343: Let Me Show You Something

Hu Kaixing felt quite emotional.

Comparing oneself to others can be quite frustrating.

He once worked tirelessly to pass the civil service exam, but others could just make use of some connections to get into the health bureau.

Such connections and capability are truly enviable!

Wang Mengqi sincerely said, ”Getting into the health bureau, that’s really impressive!”

Li Dan chuckled, ”But there’s no formal position. The work is quite relaxed, just staying in the office without much to do all day.”

Wang Mengqi said, ”That’s still pretty good. It’s so hard to find work these days!”

At their age, finding a job that’s neither too high nor too low, besides being a full-time housewife, is extremely difficult if they want something relaxed and well-paying outside.

Li Dan nodded, ”That’s true. But it will be easy for us to meet in the future. My husband often comes to Bei’an for business trips, and if I have time, I’ll come along.”

Being able to gather frequently in the future is certainly something worth celebrating for two close friends.

As the two hostesses were happily chatting, everyone else was engaging in the usual social pleasantries, being skilled at interacting with people, making the atmosphere in the private room very harmonious.

At the door of Box 203, the waitress quietly asked, ”Chef Fu, do you know the people inside?”

She had just gone in to help the customers add dishes and came out to see Fu Yu and Sun Qingning standing at the door, listening to the people inside talking.

After watching for a while, she couldn’t hold back her curiosity and asked a question.

Fu Yu came to his senses and replied in a low voice, ”Oh, I mistook them for someone else. You keep busy; we’re leaving.”

As they walked past the door of Box 203, they happened to hear Li Dan saying with a laugh, ”When you have time, you can also come to the capital to visit me. We’ve bought a house by the river, and it’s already renovated, with three bedrooms and two living rooms. You can come with your family, and it’ll be enough...”

Fu Yu didn’t stop and walked past.

Sun Qingning hurriedly followed him downstairs.

Fu Yu sighed inwardly.

He thought of Zhao Meng, and then Che Yuhang.

If given a choice, people would probably choose Che Yuhang, right?

After all, the gap is just too large.

Che Yuhang started with a high social status. After graduating, he was taken to major restaurants by his teacher to gain experience, and once he had enough, he started his own business.

He progressed step by step in an orderly and smooth manner.

The main restaurant in the provincial city was on track, and he opened branches and sent a trusted disciple to manage them, without having to worry himself.

In his early forties, he had money, a career, and a harmonious family.

Compared to his peers, he saved at least a decade of hard work in his life.

And most importantly, his future is a completely foreseeable path to success.

Sun Qingning, who followed Fu Yu, observed the whole situation.

He’s someone who can’t keep things to himself, and now with no one else around, he couldn’t help but ask Fu Yu, ”Chef Fu, why did Chef Zhao get divorced back then?”

Fu Yu paused, turned to Sun Qingning, and said, ”Chef Zhao divorced before he became a head chef, and I don’t know the specific situation. But... you heard it, anyway, this woman has remarried someone else now.”

Sun Qingning nodded.

Just with these few words, he automatically filled in a story where Zhao Meng was dumped during his tough times, and his ex-wife had an affair.

Actually, Zhao Meng is doing quite well now.

He earns hundreds of thousands a year, owns a house, a car, and has savings. He’s the head chef at Qianlima, with a stable job and a secure income.

If his ex-wife hadn’t remarried Che Yuhang but someone ordinary, it would have perfectly fit the saying ”Don’t underestimate the young for being poor!”

Thinking of this, Sun Qingning sighed.

...

Zhao Meng stood in front of the kitchen counter, working with his hands, but his gaze seemed somewhat distant.

He really hadn’t expected to see Li Dan again.

And that famous chef...

I wonder if the two of them are married now and how they’re getting along?

As soon as the thought arose, Zhao Meng quickly shook his head.

It’s been nearly ten years since the divorce; dwelling on this is pointless.

Now knowing that Li Dan has started a new life and he has his own happiness too.

If both of them are doing well, that’s enough.

Just that he originally thought he’d moved on long ago.

Unexpectedly, seeing her again today left a bitter taste in his heart.

It’s not that he still had feelings for Li Dan or wanted something with her.

Rather, it was more of a feeling of injustice.

After all, Li Dan abandoned him when he was at his poorest and weakest.

After all these years, he’d long since let go of Li Dan, but the bitterness in his heart was hard to swallow.

At his age, he could actually see things more clearly and understand them better.

But when he found out that Li Dan lived better after leaving him, with a man more capable and outstanding than himself.

He found it a bit hard to accept!

He knew that this kind of thinking was a bit low class.

So he never intended to meet Li Dan again.

Ultimately, it’s the pride and vanity inherent in men.

Of course, the main reason is still that his own heart isn’t strong enough.

Zhao Meng gave a self-mocking smile and prepared to bring out the steamed crabs.

”Chef Zhao!”

Lost in his chaotic thoughts about the past, Fu Yu’s sudden shout snapped him out of it halfway.

Zhao Meng said with a mix of amusement and annoyance, ”I’m not deaf; why are you yelling!”

Fu Yu laughed sheepishly as he came over, showing off his enrollment form.

”Classes start next Monday.”

Zhao Meng rolled his eyes, ”It’s just an enrollment form. When you pass the basic level and show me a certificate, then you can brag.”

Fu Yu observed Zhao Meng’s expression and, searching for something to say, mentioned, ”I also ran into an old classmate who mentioned a school anniversary event on Friday. They’ll invite a few outstanding alumni to speak and possibly have two renowned chefs attending.”

Zhao Meng indeed showed interest, ”That’s great. You should take the day off on Friday; I’ll put in a word with Chef Yao for you.”

Fu Yu wasn’t especially interested in attending the school anniversary. He thought he’d have to assist with interviewing newcomers that day, and Chef Yao probably wouldn’t approve leave, so he didn’t dwell on it much.

He was planning to invite Zhao Meng for a drink in the evening.

Using passing the basic level as an excuse to celebrate? That’s too weak of a reason.

Thanking him for letting his brother stay at his place seemed too distant and was likely to draw criticism.

Fu Yu got lost in thought, looking somewhat sullen.

Sun Qingning, having changed, approached and saw Fu Yu standing there. He couldn’t help but quietly say, ”Still upset? Chef Fu, I’m telling you, there’s really no need to be! Anyone who despises the poor and loves the rich is bound to change sooner or later, and Chef Zhao’s breakup with her was definitely for the best.”

Fu Yu: ”... Sometimes I find what you say quite pleasant to hear.”

Sun Qingning: ”...”

”Hey, let me show you something!”

Fu Yu asked curiously, ”What is it?”

Sun Qingning handed over his phone.

Fu Yu leaned over to see and was stunned.

Online personal information: Che Yuhang...

Fu Yu: ”!”
