The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 317: Chapter 316: How Should This Dish Be Made?

Zhao Meng realized at once that Fu Yu hadn’t taken his words to heart, which left him a bit troubled.

But after thinking about it, he figured that Fu Yu was still young, and it wouldn’t really matter if he started dating a year or two later.

Moreover, Fu Yu was right; love is something that should be left to fate.

He was a perfect example of that.

With that in mind, there was no need to continue the conversation.

Zhao Meng suddenly said to Fu Yu: ”By the way, didn’t Chef Yao mention earlier that the kitchen was going to bring in some new people? This time, besides taking on a few fresh graduates for internships, the boss also plans to hire a couple of experienced hands.”

Qianlima’s business is booming, and Dong Jun Tian has made a big move by buying the adjacent Dayu Mall, intending to combine the two buildings.

With the expansion, the staff definitely needs to increase.

Fu Yu was intrigued: ”Hiring experienced hands, huh?”

Zhao Meng nodded: ”Yes, experienced hands, a bit like Yao Yihang. Someone who can handle the stove at a small eatery, but still needs to start as an intern and be trained for a while before taking orders independently.”

Fu Yu asked: ”Where are these people being recruited from?”

Zhao Meng said: ”Recruitment has been ongoing, and gradually quite a few people came for interviews. Chef Yao watched a few times and finally picked two. It’s said they have a solid foundation; once they learn the restaurant’s signature dishes, they’ll probably be able to take charge in a few months.”

Fu Yu marveled: ”Looks like the boss really intends to make our restaurant bigger and stronger this time.”

The two sneaked a good meal to improve their lunch.

Back in the kitchen, they returned to their busy work.

During the dinner rush, which was the busy time, a server hurried over.

”Chef Fu, a new order!”

Fu Yu reached out and took it, barely glancing at the content before the server said: ”The customer wants a set meal suitable for a pregnant woman before childbirth, requesting four dishes and one soup, all to be packed.”

Fu Yu was taken aback: ”A meal suitable for a pregnant woman before childbirth?”

The order taker nodded: ”Yes, it’s a special request from the customer. The kitchen needs to arrange it, but they made one point clear, the meal must be authentic. Because the pregnant woman’s family are fishermen, she wants a real seafood meal to satisfy her craving.”

Fu Yu hurriedly asked: ”Did they say if there are any dietary restrictions?”

The order taker said: ”Oh, right, nothing raw, nothing spicy, no crabs or snails, everything else is fine.”

Fu Yu nodded: ”Alright, I got it.”

...

Customers not ordering directly from the menu can be very troublesome.

It’s like being invited for a meal and the host saying, ”whatever,” which can be a headache for anyone.

Gao Wenjing looked at the young man in front of her, feeling a slight headache.

Li Weijia was a new customer, visiting Qianlima to order for the first time.

The server led him to the ordering area as per the normal procedure.

After seeing the variety of seafood and menu prices, he suddenly asked if the kitchen could put together a takeaway meal of four dishes, one soup, and one staple food.

The restaurant had encountered this situation before.

Some first-time diners, not familiar with the restaurant’s signature dishes, would ask the kitchen to arrange a few good ones to try something new.

But what Li Weijia asked next put the server in a tough spot.

She couldn’t decide and eventually called for the supervisor, Gao Wenjing.

Gao Wenjing hurried over, not having time to ask the server, and greeted Li Weijia politely and warmly.

”Sir, hello. Do you have any special requests?”

Li Weijia, slightly apologetic, said: ”Since my wife is about to give birth, she’s craving seafood. I heard your restaurant is an old brand, known for authentic seafood. I wanted to order a set meal takeaway for her to try.”

Gao Wenjing felt relieved, thinking it was something else and was startled for a moment.

”Sure, can you please tell us if your wife has any dietary restrictions?”

Li Weijia promptly said: ”No crabs, nothing raw, spicy or irritating, and no snails, everything else is fine.”

Gao Wenjing nodded in agreement: ”Sure, no problem. I’ll have the server inform the kitchen. You can rest assured, our restaurant’s signature dishes are diverse, all very delicious, and made with fresh ingredients, so you can eat with confidence.”

Everything was going smoothly.

But then Li Weijia suddenly added his request: ”My wife’s family are fishermen, she’s particularly craving homemade authentic seafood. Could you please tell the kitchen that I want the most authentic preparation for this meal?”

Gao Wenjing: ”...”

Authentic seafood from a fisherman’s home?

Who knows how that’s done!

No one’s a mind reader to your wife’s specific taste, so how should the dish be made?

In any case, Gao Wenjing felt if it were her, she wouldn’t know what to do either.

If a casual spread of the restaurant’s signature seafood were made and the customer said it wasn’t what they wanted, a reasonable person might just accept it and eat it.

But if they ran into a picky one, there could be a lot of trouble later.

Gao Wenjing wasn’t prone to thinking the worst of people.

But many years working in a restaurant had shown her too many similar situations.

She had grown weary of it long ago.

Gao Wenjing thought it was necessary to notify the kitchen about this matter.

When a customer visits, they certainly can’t be turned away.

They have to find a way to make the dish, earn the money, and strive to satisfy the customer.

The first person Gao Wenjing thought of was Zhao Meng, since Yao Shi wasn’t there, and the best cook in the kitchen was Zhao Meng.

But Zhao Meng happened to have injured his hand.

So that left only Gu Yunwu.

Gao Wenjing was meticulous and specifically asked the server: ”Whose turn is it in the kitchen to take this order?”

The server said truthfully: ”It should be Chef Zhao’s turn, Chef Gu just took an old customer’s order.”

Upon hearing this, Gao Wenjing felt deflated.

Neither of those two could take the order.

That left only Fu Yu in the kitchen.

Throughout, Gao Wenjing never considered Yao Yihang.

Primarily because, compared to Fu Yu, Yao Yihang had become increasingly inconspicuous.

Gradually, from the kitchen to the dining hall, in everyone’s mind, Fu Yu was seen as the best cook in the kitchen after Zhao Meng and Gu Yunwu.

If Fu Yu were to handle the stove, there probably wouldn’t be any issue, right?

Anyway, since Zhao Meng injured his hand, the kitchen relied entirely on Gu Yunwu and Fu Yu to handle orders.

With this in mind, Gao Wenjing instructed the server: ”When you deliver the order, make sure to explain the customer’s request clearly to Chef Fu and let him handle it.”

The server rushed to the kitchen to deliver the order.

Meanwhile, Gao Wenjing called another server over to take Li Weijia to the dining area.

After everything was set up, Gao Wenjing genuinely breathed a sigh of relief.
