Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Okay.” Yan Huan agreed to Feng Yuzhi’s proposal.

”Auntie, it’s really not necessary to go through so much trouble. Just let Yan Huan pick them up tomorrow, it’s fine. You and Uncle don’t need to bother.” Ji Chuan felt awkward about letting his future mother-in-law make such a big fuss to entertain his parents.

”Trouble? What trouble? We’re thrilled that the in-laws are coming, it’s their first time in Nancheng, and of course we have to show them proper hospitality. Once you’re married, we’ll be one family, so why be so formal with me?” Feng Yuzhi said.

In her heart, Feng Yuzhi already considered Ji Chuan her son-in-law; the only thing missing between him and Yan Huan was that marriage certificate.

”Since Auntie said so, then you’ll have to bear with us tomorrow. My parents will definitely be overjoyed with such a grand reception.” Ji Chuan spoke effusively, knowing well how to please Feng Yuzhi.

”We’re happy too. Yan Huan being able to marry you, that’s her blessing from past life! As long as you live a good life together, we have no concerns.”

Ji Chuan knew that Feng Yuzhi’s most profound concern was Yan Huan. All these years, Yan Huan had been living in shadows, never finding the right person despite her age, which made Feng Yuzhi both anxious and heartbroken.

She’s not had it easy as a mother.

Considering Ji Chuan had fallen for Yan Huan and was committed to spending his life with her, he was determined to treat Yan Huan well. She was his woman, and regardless of what their life might become, he would never let Yan Huan suffer any grievances.

He would never let Yan Huan endure hardships!

”Auntie, no need to worry, I’ve decided that Yan Huan is my one and only in this life. I’ll do everything in my power to make her the happiest woman in the world.” Ji Chuan lifted his hand to gently stroke Yan Huan’s hair with deep affection.

These words were for Feng Yuzhi, but also for himself.

”I believe you! Good boy!” Feng Yuzhi nodded with satisfaction.

”Mom, Ji Chuan is my best friend. Over the years, I’ve never seen him care so much about any other woman. Rest assured, if Huanhuan marries Ji Chuan, she will surely be happy.” Yan Ye trusted in his friend.

”Yes, yes! I trust my judgment won’t be wrong.”

Yan Huan listened with her eyes closed as the family conversed about her and Ji Chuan, her mouth curling slightly. The feeling of being cared for and loved felt so wonderful.

She felt lucky to have met Ji Chuan.

After chatting for a while, Yan Ye noticed it was getting late and discussed with Feng Yuzhi about leaving.

”Alright, we’re heading out.” Feng Yuzhi cast a worried glance at Yan Huan, then looked at Ji Chuan and said, ”Tonight she probably won’t be able to take care of you. Before we go, if there’s any help you need, just tell us, and we’ll do it before leaving.”

Ji Chuan pointed at the crutch leaning against the sofa and laughed, ”No worries, I have this. There’s usually nothing happening at night, you should head out. Get some rest early!”

”Alright, you both rest too.” Yan Ye saw Yan Huan leaning on Ji Chuan’s shoulder, unable to keep her eyes open, and decided to leave early with his mother, giving them some time alone.

Feng Yuzhi and Yan Ye stood up, ready to leave.

Bang, bang, bang~

The sound of knocking came from outside.

Who could be visiting this late? Feng Yuzhi wondered as she went to open the door.
