Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Ning Chenyang glanced a few times and saw the three of them arguing fiercely, shaking his head, ”No!”

Though he liked games, he still had enough self-control.

”Do you still want ice cream?” Luo Tong asked, realizing her tone was somewhat cautious and ingratiating. Seeing Ning Chenyang’s indifferent expression, she furrowed her brows in frustration, ”Forget it if you don’t want it. I’ll save it!”

”I want it. Give it to me!” Ning Chenyang snatched the ice cream from her hand without hesitation and took a bite, ”You owe me this.”

”Alright. As long as you want, you can eat as many as you like.” Luo Tong saw that he finally agreed to eat, knowing for sure that he was no longer angry. Children’s friendships are that simple.

A single ice cream could solve a problem.

”Alright. So how about you provide the ice cream for me this summer?” Ning Chenyang couldn’t stand her boasting.

”Fine. As long as you’re not angry! I’ll do it if I said I would.” Luo Tong readily agreed.

”Hmph. I really don’t know if your family is rich or not?” Ning Chenyang shook his head, not caring anymore. He looked around the room and didn’t see Luo Tong’s brother, so he asked, ”Where’s your brother? Where did he go?”

”He went back to our hometown with my dad. He might not come back for a while.” Luo Tong sighed.

”I noticed your dad doesn’t seem to care about you?” After these few interactions, Ning Chenyang felt the Luo siblings were in a neglected state, ”What about your mom? Where did she go? Does she not care about you either?”

Luo Tong remained silent for a long time.

”Uh... If you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t press you. I’m just really curious about what kind of people your parents are to be so heartless as to abandon you and your brother.” After Ning Chenyang said this, he added, ”Last time your brother was so sick he almost died. It’s really heartbreaking. Honestly, you’re a bit prickly sometimes. But I think I understand why now.”

”Thank you.” Luo Tong suddenly spoke up, her voice carrying a tone of desolation and helplessness, which made it sound a bit sad, ”I don’t have a mom! Or a dad! My brother and I are both orphans now adopted by our father.”

From as far back as she could remember, she and her brother had been orphans.

One day, an elderly man appeared in front of her and her brother and took them from the cold streets, giving them a warm home.

From then on, she and her brother no longer had to beg on the cold, snowy streets of the city.

However, the home she spoke of was merely just a house.

She and her brother had a shelter, and the man who saved them said from then on he would be their dad, providing food, clothes, education, and raising them.

Everything he promised, he fulfilled.

He gave them a house, provided money, but he rarely came back. It could be a month or several months before he returned, and every time before he left, he would leave them money.

This money was enough for them to live on for a while.

But often, the money would run out before he returned.

So, she could only struggle through daily life with her brother, food and clothes weren’t too hard to manage, but falling ill was truly desperate.

Last time, she and her brother found themselves in such a predicament.

Many people were unwilling to help, but only this child named Ning Chenyang was willing to help them.
