Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”I’ve already eaten! This is prepared especially for you guys!”

Ji Shuanglin: ”...”

Ji Chuan took a bite of the dish Yan Huan cooked, but it got stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t swallow it. He thought about it for a moment and finally spat it out.

”What? Doesn’t taste good?” Yan Huan looked at him.

”Let’s just say... others charge for their meals, but yours is life-threatening!” Ji Chuan said slowly.

”What? Life-threatening? How is it life-threatening?”

”Couldn’t swallow it!”

Yan Huan: ”...”

”Darling, don’t cook from now on. I’ll take care of the cooking!”

Yan Huan: ”...”

...............

In the blink of an eye, Ji Chuan’s parents had been in Nancheng for half a month, and Ji Chuan’s injury was getting better day by day.

The hospital had already approved a new house for the two of them. The elderly couple went to check the condition of the house and were quite satisfied with it.

Qiu Xinyi was transferred to the border defense troop. With one less eyesore in the army, Yan Huan also felt much more at ease. While taking care of Ji Chuan, she also started planning the house renovation and furniture purchases.

Considering Ji Chuan was not young anymore, Meng Qingmei decided not to leave Nancheng easily since they were here this time.

She planned to have the two kids get married as soon as Ji Chuan’s leg recovered.

The whole month of August passed with Ji Chuan lying in bed. By September, his leg was almost healed. They say it takes a hundred days to heal tendon and bone injuries, but thanks to Feng Yuzhi’s special attention to this son-in-law, she sent over all kinds of nutritious food.

She also specially found a Chinese doctor to get blood-activating and bone-setting medicine for Ji Chuan, which contributed to the fast recovery of his leg.

By early September, Ji Chuan’s leg was almost healed. The doctor said it would take at most another week before he could remove the cast.

Seeing that his leg injury was almost healed, Meng Qingmei and her husband planned to set the wedding date for their son.

They specifically chose an auspicious day and brought some gifts to visit Yan Huan’s parents at the military district courtyard. This time, Yan Huan and Ji Chuan weren’t there; it was just a conversation between the two families’ parents.

At the Yan Family, in the living room.

The hot tea on the table was emitting wisps of steam, with the fragrant tea aroma filling the room and refreshing the mind. Even more pleasant than the tea aroma was the mood of both families.

”In-laws, I’ve come this time to discuss the wedding of our two kids.” Meng Qingmei put down the teacup and got straight to the point.

During their time in Nancheng, she and her husband Ji Shuanglin had gotten to know Yan Huan’s parents quite well.

The Deputy Commander Yan doesn’t talk much, but he is very straightforward. Having spent half his life in the army, his perspective and generosity are broader than most.

He is also very kind in dealing with people!

Feng Yuzhi also comes from a scholarly family and is quite knowledgeable. She and Meng Qingmei got along well, and most importantly, she really likes Ji Chuan.

The two families shared similar temperaments, appreciated and respected each other’s families, naturally found each other agreeable, and were especially satisfied with this engagement.

In particular, during this period, Feng Yuzhi and Deputy Commander Yan took great care of them, often inviting them over as guests, and always treating them sincerely, making Meng Qingmei both satisfied and assured.

”That’s wonderful! Since you brought it up, I’ll share my thoughts. I’m very pleased with Ji Chuan and I can’t wait for him to be my son-in-law. If you have no objections to Yan Huan, let’s set the wedding date for the kids!” Feng Yuzhi had been looking forward to this day for a long time.
