Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

The call went through, but no one answered, and the busy tone kept ringing in the receiver.

After trying several times, Yan Huan thought maybe Meng Qingmei was busy with something else.

She called Ji Chuan to verify the situation, and Ji Chuan said he hadn’t received any call from his mother. Perhaps, after calling, his mother got busy with something else.

Since that was the case, Yan Huan decided to leave it aside for now and ask again in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Meng Qingmei and her husband were waiting for a train at the station, and with no one at home, naturally, no one answered the phone.

After lunch, Yan Huan called Meng Qingmei’s home again, and still, no one answered. She felt something was off. For some reason, there was always an odd feeling.

”Xiaomei, you don’t think Qiu Xinyi is deceiving me, do you?” Yan Huan felt a bit uneasy.

”That shouldn’t be the case. What would be the point in deceiving you? After all, Qiu Xinyi also likes Ji Chuan, she wouldn’t let you miss it, leaving Ji Chuan’s parents in the lurch, would she?” Tan Xiaomei thought it unlikely.

In the afternoon, Section Chief Wei organized everyone in the department to learn from Yan Huan’s writing, and in the heated discussions, Yan Huan temporarily forgot her doubts.

Finally, when it was time to leave work, Section Chief Wei gathered everyone to go to the canteen for dinner.

This was an order, and everyone had to attend.

Yan Huan had no choice but to join the dinner.

The entire news promotion department was there at this dinner, celebrating and bidding farewell to Qiu Xinyi.

She had worked in this department for quite some time, but hadn’t formed any good relationships, yet, since she was leaving, as comrades, some polite words had to be shared.

Moreover, everyone knew that Qiu Xinyi was from a high-ranking family.

Her father was the chief of staff in the military, and people had to give that respect.

During the meal, comrades clinked glasses and exchanged drinks enthusiastically, celebrating Yan Huan and Tan Xiaomei, with no one truly understanding Qiu Xinyi’s feelings at the moment.

This meal had only the joy of success, not the sorrow of parting.

Qiu Xinyi, proud and aloof, now saw her situation clearly, but did not feel desolate. She felt she didn’t belong here and had little attachment to the people here.

Her only emotion was her lingering feelings and unwillingness regarding Ji Chuan!

Midway through the meal, Qiu Xinyi raised her glass and approached her for a drink, ”Yan Huan, I think it’s time we had a drink!”

”Your behavior today is very unusual!” Yan Huan put down her chopsticks and looked at Qiu Xinyi, ”You’ve always disliked me, wishing I’d disappear from your sight, so why do you suddenly want to have a drink with me today?”

”Why not? Shouldn’t we drink?” Qiu Xinyi held her glass, squinting at Yan Huan, ”Yan Huan, you are too narrow-minded! Frankly speaking, if it weren’t for you tattling behind my back, I wouldn’t be leaving. Just for that, I must have a drink with you! Congratulations on getting what you wanted!”

The conversation, originally light and pleasant during the meal, suddenly took a turn with Qiu Xinyi, changing the mood entirely, leaving everyone present feeling awkward.

The private matters between Qiu Xinyi and Yan Huan were somewhat known to the comrades. But no one expected these two would bring their personal issues to the table in front of everyone.

Yan Huan looked a bit upset, but considering that Qiu Xinyi was leaving, she said nothing, raising her glass and finishing her drink.
