Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Are you Ji Chuan’s parents?” Qiu Xinyi quickly walked a few steps to reach Meng Qingmei and her husband.

”Yes! And you are...?” Meng Qingmei saw the young woman before her in a military uniform, panting as if she had hurried over.

”My name is Qiu Xinyi. Just call me Xiao Qiu. I’m Yan Huan’s colleague. She drank a lot and was supported by her colleagues to go back and sleep. She couldn’t make it, so I specially came to send you back.” Qiu Xinyi smiled, subtly working hard in her words to cast a shadow on Yan Huan.

”If that’s the case, we can go back ourselves. There’s no need to trouble you! Thank you for specially coming to inform us.” Meng Qingmei was too embarrassed to let Yan Huan’s colleague send them off.

They could easily hail a cab and head back without troubling others.

”That won’t do. If I didn’t know you were here, that would be different. But now that I know, I must send you back. After all, it’s your first time in Nancheng.” Without further ado, Qiu Xinyi went to pick up the luggage on the ground.

”No, no, no. This suitcase is too heavy. Let me carry it instead!” Ji Shuanglin saw the young woman reaching for the heaviest luggage and hurriedly stopped her.

”I’ve got it. You must be exhausted from the train ride. I’ll carry it; you just follow me.” Qiu Xinyi worked hard to present herself, hoping to leave a good impression on Ji Chuan’s parents.

”Really, it’s not necessary...”

”No worries.” Qiu Xinyi insisted and strode forward with the suitcase.

With the rain stopped, she laboriously lugged the suitcase ahead of Ji Chuan’s parents, showcasing her thoughtfulness in contrast to Yan Huan’s lack of it.

In the taxi.

Qiu Xinyi eagerly explained the local customs of Nancheng to Ji Chuan’s parents: ”The scenery here may not be as good as Jiangning, but there’s an abundance of good food. You must let Ji Chuan take you to taste them all later. Sadly, my transfer orders have arrived, and I have to leave here tomorrow, or else I would definitely find time to accompany you well.”

”Thank you. You’re really making a big effort for us. It’s so late, and you’ve come all this way alone...” Meng Qingmei felt guilty for troubling Qiu Xinyi.

”What trouble? It’s no trouble at all.” Qiu Xinyi smiled sweetly, ”Auntie, you might not know, but I’m also friends with Ji Chuan. He performed surgery on my father twice, and my father always praises him! With Ji Chuan injured this time, I couldn’t visit him because I was taking care of my father. Just the right opportunity to see him now!”

”You’re friends too!” Meng Qingmei hadn’t expected Qiu Xinyi to know her son, ”Ji Chuan doesn’t have many friends, but he says all his friends have been great, and he’s received a lot of help from them. I should thank you all for taking care of him.”

”You’re too kind. I haven’t really taken care of Ji Chuan much. He’s an exceptionally talented doctor, and my father has always wanted to recommend him to better hospitals. But Ji Chuan is very upright and disdains gaining recommendations through connections...” Qiu Xinyi subtly introduced her family background in the conversation.

She wanted through this conversation to tell Meng Qingmei she was a good choice.

”Who is your father...?” As expected, Meng Qingmei asked about Qiu Xinyi’s father.
