Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 950: Chapter 950: Regretting Not Meeting Sooner

Feng Yuzhi saw that these two young men were quite obedient and her expression immediately went from cloudy to sunny.

Her gaze fell on Li Zhi, and she asked him with a smile, ”Young man, do you have someone you like?”

”Mom, he’s here for my birthday. Can you not be so gossipy?” Yan Ye really couldn’t stand it anymore.

Her mother’s behavior now didn’t resemble that of someone from a scholarly family at all.

Little did she know, even the most patient people could have their patience worn thin bit by bit by the likes of her and her siblings.

She had successfully turned Feng Yuzhi, a miss from a scholarly family, into an old lady who chased after them every day, urging them to get married!

”It’s fine, it’s fine. I’m willing to answer Auntie’s question!” Li Zhi said before turning his gaze to Gu Shuangshuang, saying regretfully, ”I do have someone I like, but she doesn’t like me back, so there’s really nothing I can do.”

Upon hearing this, Feng Yuzhi felt that something about the scene was a bit off.

Cheng Yue also noticed Feng Yuzhi’s intentions, so he took the initiative to say, ”You only like Shuangshuang, but Shuangshuang already has someone she loves, so you’re feeling down and disheartened right now.”

An Hao and Gu Shuangshuang also saw through Feng Yuzhi’s intentions, and both of them kept their mouths shut, smiling without saying a word.

It seemed that today’s dinner table would be lively.

As Feng Yuzhi’s daughter, Yan Huan knew her mother’s thoughts even better.

She couldn’t stand her mother acting like this, so she stood up, only toasted Yan Ye with a drink and wanted to quickly eat something and leave.

No matter how Feng Yuzhi called after her, she couldn’t be called back.

”Stop calling, with you acting like that, you’ll just scare people off,” Yan Luquan shook his head and opened two bottles of alcohol for Feng Yuzhi, ”Come on, young man. We’re all men here; let’s have a few drinks today.”

An Hao and Gu Shuangshuang finished their meal and left the place for the men to drink.

Yan Ye, as a surgeon, refused to drink too much; alcohol could affect the brain.

He had to be responsible for his patients’ lives, and he had surgery early the next morning—there was no way he could go to the operating table groggy.

Li Zhi, however, wanted to accompany Yan Luquan for a few drinks. The old man was both amusing and entertaining, and he enjoyed his company a lot.

But his alcohol tolerance was poor, and after three drinks, he was knocked out.

He sprawled on the couch all by himself and fell into a deep sleep.

Cheng Yue had quite a tolerance for alcohol and was also good at chess, so Yan Luquan found a kindred spirit in him today.

And he kept Cheng Yue drinking nonstop.

”I’m telling you, old Yan, look at what time it is! The kid has to go to an internship tomorrow; at your age, how come you’re still not reliable?”

Feng Yuzhi said, ”Enough drinking, pack it up.”

”Almost all year, I barely drink alcohol. But today, I’m happy, aren’t I? I’ve encountered a friend who’s like a younger version of myself. Such a good kid, why can’t he be mine?” Yan Luquan lamented.

The two men were kindred spirits, and there was a sense of regret that they hadn’t met sooner.

Yan Ye sat on the side with his legs crossed, reading a newspaper.

Hearing his father say this, he casually remarked, ”Isn’t that simple? Even if he can’t be your son, you can choose him to be your son-in-law.”

Yan Ye’s casual words sent Cheng Yue into flights of fancy.

But remembering how things had turned out in their recent encounters, he was thoroughly unlucky, and he quickly tossed the idea out of his mind.

”Mr. Yan, please don’t make fun of me,” Cheng Yue said.

Yan Ye curled the corner of his mouth, ”Just a joke, don’t mind it.”
