Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 913: Chapter 913: Preparing to Join the Special Forces

”Sister-in-law, my brother has put you through so much! Are you really going to let him off easy?” The second sister said with a chuckle as she looked at Gu Shuangshuang.

”Of course not. I saw the washboard in the yard is pretty good, I’m going to have him kneel on it all night tonight.”

”Great idea, I support you.”

So that evening, Tian Niu knelt on the washboard for half the night.

Gu Shuangshuang lay on the kang, cracking melon seeds in her mouth, smiling as she watched him, ”The second sister is right, you should learn your lesson.”

Tian Niu knew he was in the wrong; his knees were numb from kneeling, but still, he said with a smiled, ”My wife, that’s enough. I’m a soldier after all. Consider the dignity of a soldier, will you?”

”Who says a soldier can’t kneel on a washboard for his wife at home?” Gu Shuangshuang finished speaking and threw away a melon seed shell, ”Keep kneeling! Kneel until you dare not give up so easily next time.”

Gu Shuangshuang stayed at Tian Niu’s home for two days, and her mood improved a lot. Her holiday was also coming to an end, and it was time for her to say goodbye to Tian Niu’s family.

Before leaving, she had to talk about this matter with the Tian family, she couldn’t let them worry.

So, after packing up her things in the house, she went to find Tian Niu.

After looking around the yard, he wasn’t doing farm work, so she decided to take a look in the north room to see if Tian Niu was with his father.

Just as Gu Shuangshuang walked under the window of the north room, the faint sound of voices came from inside.

”Dad, Mom, Big Sister, Second Sister, I wasn’t planning to tell you this, but I thought it over and decided to say something after all. So you won’t worry when the time comes.”

They’re having a private meeting behind her back again.

Whenever there’s a private meeting, it’s never good news, Gu Shuangshuang thought to herself.

”What’s the matter? Just tell us, Tian-wa!” Tian Niu’s dad said.

”In a while, the country will be setting up a special forces unit, and I’m thinking of joining the special forces!”

”What are special forces?” the second sister asked.

”They’re a type of soldier that carry out special missions.” As for what missions exactly, Tian Niu of course couldn’t tell his family, to keep them from worrying.

”Why? You’re doing just fine as a company commander, why join the special forces? Are special forces dangerous?” Tian Niu’s mom asked.

”Not dangerous. Just a bit tougher.” Tian Niu lied to his family, ”I’m not afraid of hardship! The special forces’ allowance is also a bit higher. Even if I were to stop being a soldier and go into business, I couldn’t do it. I love Shuangshuang and I love being a soldier. But the allowance isn’t enough to cover the dowry. It’s hard for a family like ours to borrow money. So, I’m thinking of joining the special forces. It’s the best of both worlds! That way I can earn the money to marry Gu Shuangshuang.”

Special forces, Gu Shuangshuang had heard Li Youjun mention them.

Carrying out special missions means tasks ordinary soldiers can’t handle! From selection to training to carrying out missions, it’s all a gamble with one’s life! Therefore, the allowance is a bit higher.

Upon hearing Tian Niu say this, any trace of resentment Gu Shuangshuang harbored in her heart instantly vanished.

Such a military branch was too dangerous, the sacrifice too great; for this love, he was actually considering joining the special forces...

Gu Shuangshuang couldn’t hold back any longer, she pushed the door open and walked in, her eyes red, she shouted at Tian Niu, ”No! I forbid you from joining the special forces! If something dangerous happens to you, are you really just going to leave your family behind?”

”But...” Without joining special forces, he wouldn’t have the money to marry Gu Shuangshuang, he didn’t want to give up on love, nor could he abandon his military creed.

Both were equally important!
