Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 914: Chapter 914 Familiar Name

”My mom isn’t asking for a bride price anymore!” Gu Shuangshuang blurted out, ”I’ve already negotiated successfully with my mom this time, and she’s agreed that we can get married. Tian Niu, if you don’t join the special forces, wait until I graduate and start getting my salary, our life won’t be too bad. Don’t worry!”

”Sister-in-law, why didn’t you say so earlier!” The youngest and second sisters heaved a sigh of relief after hearing this. This was a cause for universal rejoicing!

”Isn’t it because he was too irritating? So, I wanted to test him, to observe him...” Gu Shuangshuang said sheepishly.

”So now, are you satisfied with my brother?” The second sister asked with a smile.

”Satisfied... this is what a man should be like... like the man I want...” Gu Shuangshuang’s face turned red.

...........................

The holiday ended.

Tian Niu had taken Gu Shuangshuang directly back to school before returning to the military base.

The first thing he did that night was to look for An Hao at the regimental headquarters. Before leaving, An Hao had lent Gu Shuangshuang six hundred yuan.

After he had come back and just in time for the allowance distribution, he managed to gather some money and made it a point to pay her back before she left.

When Tian Niu arrived, An Hao was not at home, with the medical team set to depart back the next day, and today was for the final packing.

Hence, he went directly to the military office to find Qin Jian.

Qin Jian, hearing that Tian Niu had come, stopped his work and invited him in.

”Staff Officer!” Tian Niu saluted him and then directly took out an envelope from his pocket, handing it to Qin Jian, ”The last time I left here, sister-in-law gave me some money. Having returned this time, I thought it best to pay her back at the earliest.”

”Is this the reason for your visit?” Qin Jian asked.

”Yes.”

”Keep the money for now, your sister-in-law is aware of your difficulties,” Qin Jian said, passing the envelope back to Tian Niu.

”No need, the problem has been solved.” Tian Niu’s face broke into a naive smile, ”Gu Shuangshuang’s mother has accepted me. She won’t ask us for money anymore.”

”Really? That’s great news,” Qin Jian was happy for Tian Niu, ”Tell me, how did you win over your mother-in-law?”

”Honestly, I was useless,” Tian Niu sighed, ”At the critical moment, I fled the battlefield again, and it was Gu Shuangshuang who sorted things out! We owe it to her stepfather, the division commander in the Nanjing Military Region.”

Qin Jian nodded and patted his shoulder: ”Next time you visit, be sure to curry favor with your future father-in-law.”

Tian Niu chuckled.

”By the way, have you set a date for the wedding?” Qin Jian asked again.

”It’s coming up soon. Gu Shuangshuang and I roughly discussed it and thought about getting married when she’s in her senior year.” By then, Gu Shuangshuang’s classes would be over, with only the internship remaining.

There would be no rush for them to get married then.

”Good, congratulations in advance.”

”Thanks! Staff Officer!”

”Don’t mention it.”

Tian Niu glanced at the time; it was getting late, so he bid Qin Jian farewell: ”If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to the battalion.”

”Alright,” Qin Jian finished, then suddenly recalled something, ”Oh, take some stuff back for your operation staff on your way.”

Qin Jian turned to fetch documents from his desk drawer: ”Hand these files to him when you get back. In a short while, there’s going to be another military exercise, and I hope you guys can give a stellar performance.”

Tian Niu accepted the documents and saluted Qin Jian: ”Don’t worry, we won’t let you down.”

”That’s what I want to hear.”

Qin Jian handed the documents to Tian Niu.

Tian Niu flipped through them casually and noticed a personal file.

A familiar name caught his eye, prompting him to read it aloud, ”Luo Gang!”
